Many of you may have never seen me before; and a few may remember me from years ago when I began my path.  Full Moon Paradise was my first real look at the richness of information and history. It took me about 8 years to get where I am today, and at my age; it's been quite a journey.  For anyone curious, I turned 22 on the 4th of June this year.

My High Priestess' little baby turned 1, and at the celebration I showed her a few of my PDF's that I've created from my electronic Book of Shadows.  I've always had a knack of finding information, copying it down, changing it slightly to print easier and look better - WITHOUT editing words, unless to fix errors - and organize it for easier use.  Instead of calling me OCD, she asked me a simple question: Why?

My answer was less then simple.  I love information.  I love to learn, and very good at picking up things, reading over things and in return; share it with others.  She called me a Scribe, and I guess a Bookie and a Scribe are the same thing.  This is not to be confused with Scholars.

See, what makes me a Scribe and not a Scholar is simple.  A Scribe is a person who takes already written material, copy and organize them as needed/wanted.  A Scholar is a person who takes information, writes them down and practices what he learns.  Most Witches you could say, are Scholars.  Does the fact that I don't practice much ritual and spells make me less of a Witch?  According to my Teacher, no.  To some; many would make the argument I am not a true witch.  What is the point of me learning all this information if I rarely use it?

What's the point of understanding stones and metals for all sorts of different uses if I only have a few crystals and stones laying around?  What's the point of me learning how to garden if I don't own a garden?  The point?  It's useful to someone else.

If someone asked me "what's an easy to make tea that's good for upset tummies and help sleep in children?"  My answer would simple.  Chamomile Tea with a touch of clover honey.  I don't have any children, but a lot of my friends do.  I'm the neighborhood witch, everyone knows who I am, and they come to me for advice.  I do let them know if I'm unsure about the information I'm giving, and will do a lot more research to make sure I'm as accurate as possible, I've been known to sit in front of my laptop and a book at the local library for a good 4 hours to make sure I know what I'm saying.

My goal is to share information with anyone willing to learn, to create beautiful works of art in simple articles, and create a world of understanding and knowledge.  I believe that while magick is a powerful and helpful tool, it's not as powerful as the undying knowledge of written word.  I believe that I'm a Scribe and a Witch.  I believe that my children will benefit from my work.

I'd love to hear what people have to say with this.  Keep in mind I'm not the best article writer myself, and if it wasn't for FireFox, I wouldn't be the best at spelling either.  I also want to thank Lady Elaine who created both this site and FMP (which I miss, stupid MSN!) and helped me to see a whole new colour of information with the wonderful articles she has.  Brightest Blessings to you LE!

Blessed Be to all.

Please note: The information that I do possess are never sold or distributed online (except as emails to local witches) and I do try to keep tabs where I've read it and who wrote it.  I also understand that old scribes not only copied down scrolls already there, but also write more then what they copied.  As hard as I like to work, I found that I'm not very good at writing and it doesn't interest me nearly as much as what I do now.  I love to play around with fonts a little bit, add a graphic or two, fix errors and share it with anyone who may have a use for it.  My Spiritual Path is Knowledge.

Hi Luna,

I would not say that being a scribe and being a scholar are mutally exclusive. In fact, I do not think you can be a great scribe without being a good scholar, nor can you be a great scholar without being a good scribe.

A scholar just refers to someone who is educated.  A scribe simply means someone who can write. Throughout most of history, only people who were educated could write and read. Also, most of education was and still is the recording and memorization of texts. A little interpretation may be added, but usually a scholar was simply a person who read and wrote what they observed.

I am a librarian and a professional indexer, and the ability to organize information is as much a skill as the generation of the information. In fact, its organization can actually lead to the synthesis of new perspectives, which is exactly what creative scholarship is. I view myself as a professional keeper and preserver of knowledge, but I also produce changes and innovations within my setting. I love knowledge in its own right and collect it whether or not it appears to be of immediate use.

In my experience, I find most people claiming to be witches aren't scholars at all, in fact they can rarely provide a logical explaination of how they come to conclusions. Most witches are incredibly intuitive beings, which is honestly the antithesis of a scholar or scibe. As these people get older, if they stay on the Path, they observe the patterns of nature over time and become more scholar-like in their understanding.

Luna, people like you and me are coming from completely different perspectives than most practitioners of magic. I actually first joined this website in the hopes of cultivating more intuition within myself, as members of our community have in abundance. I've made progress, but I am still very much the sort of person who has to understand something intellectually through reading and writing before it sinks into my subliminally.

The acquisition and sharing of knowledge has been more sacred to me than any religious ritual I have experienced.

Oh, one more thing--Luna, if your looking for a career, I think you should consider librarianship, especially a reference librarian. To me, this is the most awesome job in the world--YOU CAN'T AVOID LEARNING on a daily basis. Very Happy

I do like being in the library... but my gift is with animals, especially abused and/or timid ones.  They tend to gravitate towards me and I'm working on my dog training skills to make that my career.  It's already done wonders for my dog-hating dog Logan.  I'm finally able to take him to the dog park without worrying he's going to get hurt.

Huh, I should've done more research on the difference and similarities of Scholars and Scribes before writing this article.  I mostly went on what I knew in my head without actually reading up.  Blarg, at least I know now.

I also know what you mean by having to understand something fully before being able get it in your head.  It took my Uncle Stephane (who is not a witch) to explain the phenomenal pyramid, and the energy around us as magick.  (He called it Christ, but also explained it as Chi, and a few others I don't remember.  It's Magick.)  A lot of my family listen to him, so it's made it easier to come out and explain to him that what he's explaining is me using that energy to benefit everyone. Anyways that's a different topic for another time.

My husband (or will be in a few hours!) has teased me about having to read 9 different sources on the same subject to figure out what it's about.   I really should pay attention to what I learn and start writing my own articles.  Even if it's simple about the many uses of... I dunno.. the Besom, might be a start.  Gotta start somewhere right?

*Sigh*  Gotta wait 'till tomorrow and hopefully we get that piece of paper.  We didn't get paid at a gig we did yesterday so hopefully it goes well in the morning and we receive our paycheques.  It's a pain in the arse doing a 15 hour shift in the hot sun and chilled wind outside directing traffic for a parking lot.  Very boring, cold and you still get burnt 'cause that sun is still burning.  blarg (wrong place to rant sorry!)
