I have a question for you...

I live the motto "A witch who cannot hex, cannot heal."

Can you explain why this is important?

If you cant explain it simply, you dont understand it well enough.-- Albert Einstein

I think that this just means that a witch who isn't proficient in both the light and dark aspects of the craft isn't fully rounded. Being a witch mean recognizing both the light and the darkness, and honoring them both. It doesn't mean that you have to have hexed someone before in order to be fully rounded, just that you have the knowledge, understanding, and wisdom to know when (if ever) this action might be appropriate, and how to execute such a spell.
It's all about understanding the darkness.

There is no such thing as power to heal or harm; there is only power.  What we choose to do with it is what matters.  I equate magic with a firearm.  It has no intent of its own, good or bad.  It just is.  It's the way we use it that makes all the difference.

Blessings.

"A witch who cannot hex, cannot heal."

Hmm, if one cannot understand hexing, how can you heal someone who is suffering the ill effects of such?  I like Eirwins spin on it - you really do need knowledge of both 'light and dark' aspects of the craft in order to be well rounded.

I agree. That a witch should recognize both the light and the darkness and honor them both.

My preface: As a devout student of balance, I wish to share some possibilties of existance that have surfaced during my observations. I direct my language to be most receptive by the author of this thread. Had I answered someone else, I may have used a different frame of thought, and different words. I'm also very aware of how my fire light can eclipse a compassionate response... regardless:

I believe the motto "A witch who cannot hex, cannot heal" is important, because it suggests that one must and will know the full extent (linearly) that the spectrum, the scope, of any situation spans: as negative as it is positive, as high as it is low. This is the law of balance. This is Eintein's "for every action, there is an equal but opposite reaction" realized.

BUT, I believe this motto is MOST important because it confuses your place in the creative process here in material reality. It short-sights your individual power as a creator here on earth. Knowing the law of balance, we must begin to awaken to our place in it.

healing brings awareness/order through focus, while hexing brings confusion/chaos. Observation of life (through perspectives such as nature, math, astronomy...) suggests it is order, not chaos, that reigns supreme. What we can be aware of, what we can observe in nature, ultimately demonstrates that there is order to the chaos. Therefore, you CAN forego hexing and reach the higher understanding of the awareness that is, and by merely observing WHAT we are aware of, let all that obscures a proper observation of it dissolve as we become more aware of our awareness (and our awareness ability). [If this is confusing, readers, I apologize. My understanding of this situation is hard to sum up in three lines of text.]

As beings of consciousness, we do not have the power to create darkness, only to swirl energies of confusion that shades the light for a time.

If you're hexing, you're resisting Source energy by forcing your will into existance, instead of opening up to allow impulses from the Source to inspire your spirit, align your thought, and call you to action where you can make material reality surface. Only we can do that - the Source cannot give us the wheel we use, the music we sing and play, or the book we read, even though these are all the Source's creation. You can shoot spells out your ass til your blue in the face, nothing you can poof into existance has the ability to inspire and endure, to spread the light from person to person, like divine inspiration (maybe that's why a spell is a "poof", like a passing popcorn fart in the wake of infinity...). That which strengthens and promotes the light will continue into infinity - the blown tire you wished upon your neighbor will exist only momentarily, and in the lessons learned from changing the tire, your neighbor will grow in knowledge, grow in light, become stronger than before you hexed.

Thanks for bearing with me, as I record what I think I know, I learn much.
