My Mom has Renal-cell carcinoma.  She also has Multiple Sclerosis.  The combination is not good.

She lost one kidney to the cancer several years ago.  It resurfaced in the other a few months back.  While determining the removal of part of the remaining kidney they detected that it has metastasized into her lung and lymph node there.  They decided surgery was no longer a need as it has already spread.

They gave her Sutan to slow the growth but it made her extremely ill and they have taken her off of it.  She refuses to try another treatment as the "quality of life exceeds quantity".  Plus research shows that chemo and radon treatments aren't effective on this type of cancer.  In addition the combination of treatment with the MS has made her unable to do much for herself.

I advised her to eat asparagus and drink lemongrass tea to help deter the cell growth.  Does anyone know of any other possibilities?

what a gracious state of mind she has in a time of certain transition. may she continue to be open to the lighter side of life throughout her journey, and may you be receptive to the enjoyable moments with her and your family that can surface between the waves of such heavy worry.

She is very lucky to have you as a daughter to be with her and love her through this.  Lots of energy and love coming her way!

I did a little bit of research, and found that broccolli, cabbage were very popular, as raw vegetables because they retain their vitamins.  If I were you, I would search your mom's specific cancer on the internet. Lots of info out there.  
Your mother sounds like a wonderful woman and she knows what she wants.  Real-Eyez said it perfectly.  Love and prayers go out to you.

Thank you for the words of encouragement.  Yes she is a very strong remarkable lady.  I am very proud of her.  I talked to her last night and she is doing so much better now that the medication is leaving her system.  She can taste food again which seems to be a bright point at this time!

This is definitely one of the hardest things I have dealt with.  Even though I know that when she is finished with this body her life continues I will miss her so much.  She appointed me as the personal liaison for her living will.  Lol, she figures that of all the family the one with the resolve to pull the plug and let her go would be me.  I am not sure that is a compliment... but I know that I will do it when it is time.  The hardest part is not allowing her to see what the knowledge is doing to me inside.

I knew a year ago that she was going to die in the not so far away future.  Had a dream.  So did my niece.  Funny how the universe prepares us for traumatic events.
