I just cannot believe it ....... and I have to laugh or I'll cry. So, 1 1/2 years ago we moved into this house. This house actually has a working garage. For me, thats huge. I've never lived in a house (let alone owned) before that had a working garage ~ they've either been too small and/or filled with storage stuff, maybe had a carport, or just no garage at all. So we finally got the garage all straightened out and clean and ready for a car. My hubby went and bought a universal remote and we programmed it. It works! Fantastic! But it works my neighbors too
and his remote works mine
It turns out that when the builders built the homes 20 years ago, they put in all of the same garage door openers, set them all to diferent frequencies, but because niether one of us has the original remote we can't reporgram the frequency. The lesson I learned today is that with universal remotes (at least for garage door openers) when you press the button, it just sends out every code possible for that brand. I called the mfg and there is nothing I can do ....... it was made before 1993 and that is when the laws changed so they no longer service and/or repair those. So, I guess the plan is to install a new garage door opener .......
