My favorite Holidays are Samhain, and Yule.
I love Autumn, and snow is fun when you don't have to drive in it.
I love to hear those words Trick or Treat, minus the trick. My whole family dresses up for Samhain, and we all go trick or treating together, minus the teen who would rather hang out with the other teens.  I will make a pot of chili, or some other soup just before we go out so that when we get back we can warm up with a bowl or two. We always set out a plate or a bowl for those who wish to feast with us as well. (Spirits, Ghosts, Angels, Fairies, Feys, Etc.)  Then we go through the candy bags to check and sort and share and trade. My favorite part is all the decorations and pumpkins that all look so kool.
Yule is another favorite of mine. Not just because of presents, but because family getting together, feasting, the tree, and decorations, and remebering good times. I also love the snow, and making snowpeople with my kids.
Very Happy

My family has always been all about Samhein, or Halloween as I still ussually call it.  We love to dress up and I love the candy and treats.  I still have no idea what to dress up as.  I had thought about obtaining a large box and going as a case of baskets  Very Happy  O maybe I'll buy a new witch hat,  My cats ruined the one I use to own and walmart has a really sparkly one.

Hands Down, Samhain is my absolute favorite! Yule used to be a close second. But since loosing both of my parents around this holiday, as well as my father in law (who I was very fond of) passing on right on Dec 21st, Yule just doesn't feel the same. Its a time when I feel very empty inside.

Blessings,

Samhain/Halloween are my favorite holidays.  I love the time of year.  The air is crisp, the leaves change colors,  the weather is cooler.  Plus my birthday is October 29th.  I love having my birthday so close to Halloween.

My favorites are Samhain and Midsummer, We do a huge bon-fire for mid-summer, have fruit salad for dinner.  I love fall, and all to do with the Halloween spirit. The kids always love to dress up.

Samhain, Thanksgiving and 4th of July.
I love autumn, not so much winter but who knows that could change with the change of location too. I am a chocoholic so anything that involves candy appeals to me. I love pumpkins and all sorts of spices too.

Samhain is my favorite.  I like to use all traditions to make that day special.  A special meal is prepared for the family, and we toast our loved ones who have gone on.  Decorations are traditional, lots of different gourds (not just pumpkin) carved and lit.  And very scary, I love to scare people, but my tombstones have the names of actual women who were murdered after being accused of being a witch.  Gevaudan has a place here too.
Yule is also close to my heart.  It is the darkest time of the year, but the family warmth by the fire makes it so special.  My tablecloth (which I'm working on now) will have the center picture of the oak king,  and the surrounding squares will have my children names, and their special interest marked.
I love to have different traditions from all backgrounds to fill my holidays.  I would love to hear of other people's traditions too.  Any body?

Samhain of course!  Autumn is my favorite time of year, and a chilly, breezy night with a full moon and some ragged clouds blowing past just makes me feel wonderful.  I love to decorate with natural items, corn cobs, bittersweet, corn stalks, pumpkins, oak branches with leaves and acorns!  I love Samhain ritual too.  I relish inviting all my relatives who have crossed over to come and visit with me.
I also love Midsummer's Eve.  There's something innately magic about that time of year.  It stays light so long and when night finally comes with the cooler air and a billion stars and the flowers' perfume in the air it's hard not to believe the Fae are all around.

Does anyone have specific plans for the holidays yet? I know its only the first of October, but my experience is that the holidays will run right over me if I don't try to pull plans together early in the fall.
For sure I will want some mead, I would love to be riding on Samhain, but only if the weather is pleasant. I have done some riding in the rain but it isnt much fun being soggy soppy and cold.
I am musing about a picnic by the fireplace. Of course I will include only healthy foods like hmmm CHOCOLATE...maybe a dark chocolate 'smore for dessert? I don't think I have ever tried that....but what to do about the other foods, veggies and a main course? I guess its off to explore the recipes section to see if anything pops up that looks like a good candidate.
Any suggestions out there?
Bright Blessings

What kind of riding are you talking about? Motorcycle or horseback? I went for a Samhain ride in 2005. It was a full moon that night. I had gone to the Harley dealer to buy my wife a pair of earrings for her birthday and saw this really nice bike on the showroom floor. So I worked a nice deal with the salesman, called home to get the "final authorization" from the wife, and rode home that evening with her new earrings in my saddlebags  (bike)   Laughing

Definitely motorcycle riding. I don't know how to ride a horse but hopefully I will learn someday. My husbandhas a Honda 1300vxr. Tennesee has some of the best roadsfor motorcycle riding. We have the snake and dragons tail and tons of secenic rides as well. Love Tennessee for it's beautiful countryside and the sweet mountain air. We visited grandfather mountain recently. Itwas like a storybook had come to life. Sweet scents seemto fill the air reminds me of a perfume my mother  used to wear.

Tennessee sounds beautiful. Its also one of the states on my list of possibles as where my wife and I may retire. Plus my daughter is considering attending the University of Tennessee. I bet the autum is spectacular too. I know West Virginia is.

One place that I would love to visit at Samhain would be New Orleans.  I would think that the whole atmosphere would be fascinating.
Anyone been there at that time?

Let's see, midsummer. Like it hot, 90 + degrees. I know I am wierd. New Orleans is wonderful in the fall, still hot though. Stay in the french quarter and be careful, not the safest city, before or after Katrina. Motorcycles dont like me, lol. Horses ok, if it has hair I have ridden it (except bulls, dammed if I will ride anything that comes back and stomps me when it gets me off it's back  Smile )

Mid winter is nice, I stay hidden in the shop and carve or work on a few sticks.  But hot is better, froze my butt off years ago in construction and surveying. Old and blood thin  Laughing .

Marigold, New Orleans has wonderful cemetary and voodoo tours, I loved them even though I really dont like it that much there.

Blessings
