Full Moon in sunny Sagittarius on Monday; Storm clouds gather on Wednesday when Pluto opposes both Mercury and Mars; could it be a breakthrough or just a breakdown? Summer Solstice on Friday when the Sun enters Cancer; and Neptune looks inward beginning a five-month retrograde period.
Are home surveillance systems making us paranoid? As we wish Cancer natives a happy return around the Sun this week (Summer Solstice on Friday), it might be time to think about the above question. As the sign of home and family, Cancer is associated with domesticity, safety, security, protectiveness, emotion, sensitivity, compassion, and nurturing. Generally this sign tends to be traditional and respectful of history, ancestors, and the status quo. Devotion and loyalty along with strong personal relationships are important measures of happiness in the Cancer playbook.
Several years ago I decided to get a video doorbell. It?s a motion detector so I am alerted by chimes every time someone approaches. In many ways it?s pretty cool since from the comfort of my office, or anywhere when I am connected to the internet, I can see activity on my front porch and even speak to a visitor via a two-way speaker. This includes the feral cat who likes to sit on the window ledge! Another interesting feature is I am linked to a network of others in my neighborhood (I get to select the range) who also have the same surveillance system.
Periodically people will upload their videos for others to view. Sometimes it?s something cute or interesting like a fox, coyote, or other wildlife. But more often than not, it?s a video of something the person deems as disturbing or illegal. This can be useful of course, if the group is being alerted to potential threats like porch pirates stealing packages, and other attempts to steal or damage property. But what has my attention is the number of times videos are uploaded with seemingly normal people doing normal things like walking down the street or ringing the doorbell. These are often accompanied by captions describing the people in the video with disparaging adjectives or names such as ?weirdo, creep, deviant, or pervert?.
What gives? Is it a case of projection, or possibly an exaggerated fear of ?other?? Now what does this have to do with Cancer? This is a sign highly in tune with emotions, intuition, and those of the people they love. Cancer teaches us to become more keenly aware of those people who feel like ?family? and those who don?t. This sign excels both at nurturing those she draws close, and repelling those she sees as outside of her circle or domain. When it comes to the expenditure of money, resources, time and love, priority always goes to the home team.
Who can argue with the instinct of nurturing and motherhood and protecting home and family? Not me! But what we often don?t realize or think about is when we strongly identify with others like ourselves, and those we see as being in alignment with our values, ethnicity, culture, political views and shared history, we by definition tend to exclude those who don?t fit the profile. Exclusion is one thing, judgment of others as being wrong, weird or deviant is quite another.
Those of you who know me, know I like raising questions (my Aquarian Moon!) I?m not advocating we throw our families or discernment overboard. I am advocating for being more conscious of how we define family, not family, strangers, and all things unfamiliar.
During this period we can embody the positive characteristics and strengths of Cancer including fine tuning our intuition, becoming caring listeners, being attentive caretakers of relationships and of those things we value such as our homes, gardens, and etc. And we can raise the bar when it comes to our awareness of how, when and why we include people and when we draw the line and keep them on the other side. What does this look like, why do we do it and what motivation does it serve?
Until next week, let go and wear loose clothes.

Moon in Sagittarius/Capricorn
Full Moon in Sagittarius
Moon goes Void of Course at 1:31am enters Capricorn at 9:13am
Full Moon 26? Sagittarius 1:31am
Night owls are treated to the glory of the Full Moon in Sagittarius at 1:31am Pacific Time. With the Moon sitting next to abundant Jupiter we may be fooled into thinking expansion is the same thing as growth. Not necessarily so, says this Full Moon. By definition the Full Moon is in perfect opposition to the Sun. The Moon can?t be this glorious reflection of light without its relationship to the Sun. There is a message in here for all of us! Even when we think we are doing it all on our own, that?s far from the truth. Many times those experiences we perceive as negative help to shape who we are; and we are intricately connected to everything and everyone in ways we can?t fully understand or even imagine.
With the Moon and Jupiter in Sagittarius in uncomfortable relationship to the North Node of the Moon, Mercury and Mars (all in Cancer) and leaving a square to Neptune we should be on the alert there is more than meets the eye during this Full Moon. With Neptune in Pisces making favorable aspects to those planets in Cancer we might assume, and wisely so, that listening to our intuition and feelings might lead us to greater truth. We can imagine and create something better.
During this Full Moon, take some time to look at the patterns in your life (Sagittarius) without judgment. A simple question might be, ?Does this attitude, belief or behavior help to create harmony, contentment and peace in my life?? If not, is it time to move on? Even though habits are hard to break, the first step is always deciding the behavior isn?t desirable, or at least the result is not something you want! First comes the realization you want something different. Do this and the next steps will start appearing.
Even though the Full Moon is in footloose and adventurous Sagittarius, the day belongs to Capricorn as the Moon marches into this practical earth sign at 9:13 am Pacific Time. It?s easy to slip out of the contemplative mode and into doing something constructive. This is a good energy for mentors, teachers, and leaders and for seeking advice, instruction, and guidance.
Early tomorrow morning (4:40 Pacific Time) Saturn the planet of planning and structure makes a favorable aspect to Neptune the dream weaver. Want to manifest something wonderful in your life? Set an intention before you go to sleep tonight and let Saturn and Neptune work their magic.
Daily Muse: Many persons have a wrong idea of what constitutes true happiness. It is not attained through self-gratification but through fidelity to a worthy purpose? When we do the best that we can, we never know what miracle is wrought in our life, or in the life of another. (Helen Keller ? Sun in Cancer)
TUESDAY
June 18
Moon in Capricorn
Saturn has a beneficial meeting with Neptune in the early morning hours. Now ordinarily it?s hard to figure what these two could possibly have in common. Nebulous Neptune rules emotional water, creativity and imagination while Saturn is the disciplinarian and planet of law and order. Not exactly what comes to mind when you think about willing collaborators. Nevertheless, I?m fond of these two working together as it seems like the perfect combination of inspiration meets effort. Can we really manifest without both?
Some astrologers argue once the connection is perfect, which happens at 4:40 am Pacific Time, then the energy dissipates. Maybe true, but I choose to believe we can still grab the tail end of this constructive energy for manifesting. Don?t be quick to believe the perfect time or opportunity has passed you by. I have it on good authority; you can?t miss your destiny! The Moon?s alignment with both Saturn and Neptune this evening may be an indication the powerful magic of Saturn and Neptune indeed lingers.
This morning Mercury the thinker colludes with Mars the planet of action. Take this as a sign it?s time to act on an idea. Also beware our mouths can get us into trouble when Mercury and Mars get together. Our communications may be more forceful than usual, especially with family and loved ones, and about issues having to do with home and family. Both planets are in Cancer which can become protective and defensive of home turf. While loyalty is a virtue, so is the ability to be inclusive in our thinking and behavior instead of perceiving ourselves as surrounded by strangers or enemies.
Daily Muse: Listen to what you know instead of what you fear. (Richard Bach ? Sun in Cancer)

Moon in Capricorn/Aquarius
Moon goes Void of Course 4:19am enters Aquarius 7:01pm
Is that a monster in our bedroom or an apparition sculpted from the yesterday?s discarded blue jeans thrown over a chair? In the early morning hours Mercury in Cancer opposes powerful and transformational Pluto. Although every planetary connection has beneficial possibilities, this one usually carries more shadows than most. No-nonsense Pluto can manifest as overly judgmental and critical when attached to Mercury the planet of communication. Because of the timing, our dreams might be filled with scary images or we might script dream scenarios in which others are criticizing and judging us. Old fears or ego injuries might get played out in a familiar or new format.
Whether it?s a night-time dream or we are fully awake, we can turn the tables on this energy. We might recognize a fear that continues to plague us. If so, Pluto can actually help us transform this energy by owning up to it and not playing unfortunate victim.
If you wake up from sweet dreams, lucky you! Still be on the alert for the unconscious need to blame others. If people are feeling fearful, striking out verbally may be the favored tactic.
As we move through the day, the energy is building toward another very challenging conflict as Mars in Cancer takes his turn at opposing Pluto. This is very combustible energy between the traditional ruler of intense Scorpio (Mars) and the modern ruler, Pluto. We might feel like something is brewing inside us. This energy is associated with manipulation, power, and the need to control. If we feel out of control by conditions of our own design we might be rattling the chains we feel are binding us. Even if we feel angry about our own previous decisions and choices, that doesn?t mean we won?t project our frustration onto someone else. We might also choose to see others as responsible for the limitations or negativity in our lives.
One of the best antidotes to this energy is to switch our thinking from win/lose to win/win. We can choose to not judge ourselves or others critically, and we can decide to look for solutions where everybody wins. It may not be easy in the heat of the moment, but practice makes perfect.
Even though these powerful energies have significant shadows, this is also the energy of breakthrough. Don?t like what you see or what is happening in your life? Do something about it. Tonight the Moon heads for innovative Aquarius. This sign is known for being able to emotionally detach which may be exactly what we need in this moment. We can look to the possibilities without getting too bogged down with the emotional side of things. Feelings carry important messages; however, they are fleeting and fickle. Under an Aquarian Moon, look to the rational side of yourself for guidance and dare to imagine radical and positive change.
Daily Muse: As I walked out the door toward the gate that would lead to my freedom, I knew if I didn't leave my bitterness and hatred behind, I'd still be in prison. (Nelson Mandela ? Sun in Cancer.)
THURSDAY
June 20
Moon in Aquarius
Things are definitely feeling lighter today even if we have not fully incorporated some of the intense revelations of the last few days. Under the influence of a social and friendly Aquarian Moon why not go on an outing with friends or meet for lunch, an afternoon movie or make evening plans? Brainstorming with colleagues or friends might foster inspiration and put a few things into a different perspective.
Mercury at 23 degrees of Cancer is starting to slow down a bit as it heads for a retrograde pattern in July. We are still a few weeks away; but today is worth noting on your calendar as this is what we call the beginning of the shadow. Mercury will return to this point during July. We?ll retrace our thinking, conversations, communications and decisions, from this point forward.

FRIDAY
June 21
Moon in Aquarius
Summer Solstice
Moon goes Void of Course 7:02am enters Pisces Saturday 7:01am
Sun Enters Cancer 8:54am
Neptune Goes Retrograde 7:36am
We are ready for a bright spot, some good news as we wake today with the Moon making a hopeful connection to Jupiter. We look forward to adventure with the coming of summer. Officially it?s here! The summer solstice is at 8:54 am (Pacific Time) with the Sun entering the cardinal sign of Cancer. We got a taste of wanting to escape some of our own limitations earlier in the week. Today we can truly turn over a new leaf and start a new chapter by seeing some of those limitations for what they really are, our own negative beliefs. With Neptune beginning a five month retrograde today, that should come easier ? tuning into our inner psyches.
As the sign of home and family, Cancer is associated with domesticity, safety, security, protectiveness, defensiveness, emotion, sensitivity, compassion, and nurturing. Generally this sign tends to be traditional and respectful of history, ancestors, and the status quo. If it?s not broken, why fix it? Devotion and loyalty along with strong personal relationships are important measures of happiness.
During this cycle we are more in tune with our emotions, intuition and those of the people we love. We may become more keenly aware of those people who feel like ?family? and those who don?t. Cancer excels both at nurturing those she draws close, and repelling those she sees as outside of her circle or domain. When it comes to the expenditure of money, resources, time and love, priority always goes to the home team.
Daily Muse: The bond that links your true family is not one of blood, but of respect and joy in each other's life. Rarely do members of one family grow up under the same roof. (Richard Bach ? Sun in Cancer)
SATURDAY
June 22
Moon in Aquarius/Pisces
Moon enters Pisces 7:01am
The pull towards the Sea, childhood joys, or nostalgia in general could be associated with the onset of summer and the thought of school vacations, ice cream trucks, and days spent at the lake or pool. Or maybe it?s the fact the Sun in emotional Cancer is aligning with the Moon in sister water sign Pisces. No matter the reason, it could be an emotionally charged day, but in a good way. We find it easier to tune into the energy of the day and go with the flow. When we are able to consciously grasp the tendencies and values of those around us and realize what makes them tick, we are able to align ourselves and harmonize successfully. This may not always be our goal or our way, but today, it?s a winning strategy.
Tonight when the Moon connects with Taurus we may be somewhat open to new things, but primarily we are more likely to stick to the familiar and a sure bet. If you are making plans for dinner or an evening out, be advised, participants are more willing to fork out the cash for a known reward. Stick with reservations at a favorite restaurant or one with the highest reviews. Or go safe and barbecue at home. Save the trendy new diner or expensive hot spot for another time.
Daily Muse: When people talk, listen completely. Most people never listen. (Ernest Hemingway ? Sun in Cancer)
SUNDAY
June 23
Moon in Pisces
It may be difficult to feel supported or to get what we want and what we think we deserve today with several trying and challenging planetary aspects. With Venus opposing Jupiter this morning and feeling out of sorts with Saturn as well, even when we get what we want, it doesn?t satisfy the itch. Trying to buy love falls flat so don?t try to impress a mate or prospective friend or partner with a pricey gift, especially one you can?t afford. Generally, this is probably a good day to be more cautious with money since we may be less aware than usual of the hidden costs and/or over estimate the value of something.
Things are looking easier this evening, although a lunar square to Venus threatens to repeat the unsatisfying theme of the day. The Moon?s alignment with Neptune in late evening suggests looking for more intrinsic value is more satisfying than just accepting the monetary or superficial value of something. We might also find happiness in living vicariously through the lives of characters on screen. Indulging in a movie with opulent settings and themes might ease our pain a bit. How about a few episodes of Downton Abbey?
Daily Muse: That?s what learning is, after all; not whether we lose the game, but how we lose and how we?ve changed because of it, and what we take away from it that we never had before, to apply to other games. Losing, in a curious way is winning. (Richard Bach ? Sun in Cancer)
