Monday July 8 thru Sunday July 14

Astrological Highlights for the week: Venus gets excited by Uranus on Monday (in a good way!) while Mars and Mercury in Leo compete for the spotlight; Tuesday the Sun hunkers down with a Saturn opposition and gets some spiritual guidance from Neptune on Wednesday; Mars is ready to fight with Uranus on Thursday and the Sun musters up some remaining courage to face its fears with Pluto on Sunday.

The Week is bookended with Solar Oppositions ? the Sun in Cancer opposes Saturn and the South Node of the Moon in Capricorn on Tuesday and Pluto on Sunday. Well you kind of had to know this would happen! With those planets camped out in Capricorn, whenever other planets move through the remaining three cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, and Libra) there?s going to be some fireworks. This might be especially true when we are talking about the Sun which represents ego and our personal sense of individuality. Although life experiences can stretch us in a good way, we rarely welcome the opportunity.

Nevertheless, let?s be open-minded about this. Whenever the Sun tangles with Saturn it?s a chance to really look at how we give our personal power away, how we may sabotage ourselves by rebelling against useful rules and guidelines, and how we can reclaim control and peace of mind through greater understanding and acceptance. You know the old adage about changing what you can, and accepting what you can?t. Good advice for this week. As the ruler of time, and the skin and bones in our bodies, Saturn is our friend. All rules are not bad. They give necessary structure and meaning to our lives. The trick is to clearly identify which guidelines are useful and which ones are unnecessarily oppressive. Embrace good habits and routines and see what you can do about adjusting others, at least for a start.

Pluto is the planet of regeneration and transformation. None of us really look forward to transits where the Sun is in disagreement with this character. Nevertheless, like Saturn he can be our friend, by bringing fears to the surface so we can really look at them. When you start feeling like other people and outside events are the source of your troubles consider how you might be setting them up as the ?fall guy? for what you perceive to be your own weaknesses or vulnerabilities. Saturday and Sunday morning as we close in on this conflict, think purge and clutter clearing on both a physical and psychological level. It can be exhilarating!

In the midst of the this weekly marathon ? racing between Saturn and Pluto ? the Sun takes a time out for some spiritual guidance when it connects with imaginative and compassionate Neptune on Wednesday night. Take a breather and re-connect with your inner guide and teacher. Recognize how you can use this connection to source and your imagination to create a different reality for yourself.

Mars? entry into fiery Leo last week also means some potentially volatile alignments this week; Mars and Mercury collide on Monday and Mars feels uncompromising on Thursday when it squares Uranus. Consider this similar to any child or youth asserting their independence and trying to find their way in the world. We are the child and the youth forever doing the dance of individuality. Look at me world!

And then there?s the Moon. On Tuesday the Moon in Libra squares off with the Sun in sensitive and emotional Cancer. This puts us in the second quarter of the Moon cycle, and under the influence of a waxing quarter Moon: interpretation ? there?s going to be some tension. Nothing new, we go through this twice during a Moon cycle and it requires a bit of adjustment as we renegotiate the needs of our egos with the desires of our hearts. And no doubt many of us are still reeling from the deeply intense emotional energy of the New Moon Solar Eclipse in Cancer last week. That was a big one!

But all is not doom and gloom this week or a battlefield. Venus starts the week with an upbeat and stimulating connection to Uranus on Monday morning. It?s hard to read this negatively as favorable alignments between the planet of values and the planet of awakening opens the doors for more pleasure, for finding new and stimulating people and things to love! I have a friend whose favorite mantra which she repeats often is about ?expanding our tolerance for pleasure?. Venus and Uranus acting together can do this. On Monday morning, push the limits of your boundaries for joy and pleasure and see how this can positively influence the rest of your week, and maybe your life.

Until next week, let go and wear loose clothes.

MONDAY

July 8

Moon in Libra

With so many cosmic shifts last week (Mars and Venus changed signs, New Moon Solar Eclipse, and Mercury started a retrograde pattern), we may be struggling a bit to catch our breath or settle into some new patterns. It doesn?t have to be to be a struggle, especially if we are willing to slow down our pace and check in with the internal landscape before assessing the external one. It might be helpful if we take our cues from nature which seems to willingly adapt to whatever is happening. That isn?t to say there isn?t soil erosion at the creek?s edge after a big rain, or that branches won?t break during a major wind storm. But nature, for the most part seems to know exactly how to respond; and sometimes that includes a non-response or one that comes as quite the surprise to us humans. Nature responds and accepts.

Today the Moon is in agile and graceful Libra. We can dance! When Venus in domestic Cancer aligns with Uranus this morning, we might want to be a little bit more experimental especially in our social life. Why not suggest a sexy hot date for breakfast? When Uranus takes Venus? hand we don?t want to follow the crowd. If possible, schedule a social meet-up or professional meeting this morning when people are naturally open to new ideas and more willing to try something different or unusual.

This afternoon retrograding Mercury might be a bit startled when he looks over his shoulder and finds Mars coming up behind him. This can be a powerful time for communication as the energy of motivation mixes with the natural abilities of the messenger planet. However, it can also prove to be a time of verbal conflicts or arguments. People are more direct and forceful when Mars is fueling the conversation. And, considering both planets are in Leo, a fire sign, and one that can lean just a bit toward being self-centered, things could go awry quickly for those not paying attention.

This is actually a good time to set some things straight or make a point. But be aware, with Mars and Mercury together in Leo, communications may come out more forcefully or maybe prematurely. We are more likely to see communication as an opportunity for competition, or to prove ourselves. If your idea is not really ready for prime time, take extra caution to not spill the beans. No stopping fire energy! Beware of making snap decisions just because the urgency of the moment has you in its grasp. Aspire to be one of those people who has something significant to say. Then when you do, others will listen.

Daily Muse: I want to be inspiring to myself, to my kids, my family, and my friends. (Jodie Foster ? Mars in Leo)

TUESDAY

July 9

Moon in Libra

Moon goes Void of Course 12:35pm enters Scorpio Wednesday 2:29am

Whatever illusions or delusions we are living under where we believe we are separated independent creatures unconnected to others, come crashing down this morning when the Sun opposes Saturn. This is one of those classic power struggle transits when we are reminded no matter how powerfully we feel we control every element of our lives, we can never be on top of everything. It could be something relatively minor like our computer crashes, the refrigerator goes on the blink, or we simply run into a maze of rules, conditions, delays, and limitations.

The tendency under this energy is to approach life and even small issues very seriously. We might want to consider whether or not our life story depends on plot twists that include strife, oppression, and limitation. Most of us do to some degree. Different day, different problem. Do we find things more interesting when we have something to fight against? Somebody, something is making me unhappy! Hopefully you are smiling at this point and thinking how childish this all sounds. That?s good. Now, as adults can we move forward and take responsibility for our own happiness?

The computer, refrigerator, car, court system, boss, client, self-checkout register, or summer allergy has not betrayed us, at least not personally. When the Moon in justice-seeking Libra squares Pluto this afternoon, at first we might think so. But then, on second glance we might realize, we?re not really happy playing the victim role in the story. Maybe something or someone has let us down, not met our expectations. So what? It happens. How can we avoid it next time? Maybe we can?t. But then again, maybe we can by first recognizing when we give our power away to things, events, and people. I can only be happy if. Sound familiar?

When the Sun and Saturn spar, one of the take home messages is certainly, find the adult in the room and the power within yourself. And remember, you can?t control all the details, but you are in total control of your perception and interpretation.

Daily Muse: One's dignity may be assaulted, vandalized and cruelly mocked, but it can never be taken away unless it is surrendered?Happiness is a decision? My happiness grows in direct proportion to my acceptance, and in inverse proportion to my expectations. (Michael J. Fox ? Mars in Leo)

WENSDAY

July 10

Moon in Libra/Scorpio

Void of Course Moon enters Scorpio 2:29am

Although the day is likely to end on a sweet and forgiving note when the Sun settles into a soothing alliance with Neptune, the lead in could be a little rough. The emotional seas are choppy today and probably for reasons way below the surface of our consciousness. The Moon slips into mysterious and serious Scorpio in the early morning hours. By daylight it may be more than coffee brewing as this sensitive Moon squares both Mercury and Mars. Misunderstandings come much easier than reason and clarity and we?re likely to get our feelings hurt, or get bent out of shape for all the wrong reasons. It doesn?t help in early afternoon when Luna opposes contrary Uranus. It might feel like quite nothing is going as expected.

Overall, it just feels like the energy is wonky today and indeed it is. Most likely we are seeing through a lens we don?t even know is before our eyes. There is a definite lack of clarity, almost like a smokescreen or fog we are moving through. Try not to take anything too seriously, as our next view is likely to be quite different. Think of this like looking at things through moonlight or candlelight. It might be romantic or scary; but when the Sun comes out it can look like something altogether different. We don?t want to make decisions when we don?t have all the information or our vision is incomplete.

By evening the Moon finds a friend in Venus and we too seem to emerge from the Twilight Zone into familiar and comforting territory. The Sun?s alignment with compassionate Neptune tonight helps put things into a kinder perspective before we call it a night. If you need an attitude adjustment, try a movie or some wonderful music.

Daily Muse: Some guy said to me: ?Don't you think you're too old to sing rock n' roll?? I said: ?You'd better check with Mick Jagger?. (Cher ? Mars in Leo)

THURSDAY

July 11

Moon in Scorpio

Moon goes Void of Course at 5:28pm, enters Sagittarius Friday at 8:05am

This morning is being fueled by a high-octane conflict between Mars in fiery Leo and Uranus in determined Taurus. Both are Fixed Signs which means they see it as their personal mission to hold fast to whatever they believe in and what they want. Let?s just call them persistent and stubborn for simplicity?s sake. This is a very eccentric, non-conforming and unpredictable energy. We tend to be spontaneous, impulsive, and hurried in our thinking and actions. In fact, it would be easy to believe there is very little thinking going on at all!

This tends to be an intolerant combination; so if you are participating in a team or group activity, don?t look for a lot of agreement or cooperation, at least not this morning. If you are feeling particularly stifled, angry or frustrated, it might be a good idea to walk away ? physically if you are able, and mentally if necessary. In fact, a good walk, run or physical activity will help blow off some steam.

Things should look much better this afternoon as the Moon makes favorable connections to Neptune, the Sun, and Pluto. We may not exactly be cool-headed, but a lot of the frenzy and excitement of the morning should be winding down. The Moon is void of course this evening, so regardless of what took place today, it?s probably best not to start something new or initiate a new idea or plan.

Daily Muse: Pessimism and optimism are slammed up against each other in my records, the tension between them is where it's all at; it's what lights the fire. (Bruce Springsteen ? Mars in Leo)

FRIDAY

July 12

Moon in Scorpio/Sagittarius

Void of Course Moon enters Sagittarius at 8:05am

The energy rises from our hearts and the deep recesses of our psyches this morning, as the Moon leaves Scorpio and bounds into eager Sagittarius. This is the sign of adventure; but Jupiter-ruled Sagittarius is much more than a player. This sign is thoughtful, philosophical and even scholarly. This gives us the opportunity to put some things in perspective, especially anything that seemed pretty wonky from earlier in the week. Remember Mercury is retrograde and this is the time to review, renew, revamp, renovate, reexamine and reappraise!

The Moon in fiery Sagittarius harmonizes with Mercury and Mars in Leo this afternoon and evening. Flickering flames suddenly burn brighter and stronger; and fragmented thoughts come together. This may not exactly be the ?peace on earth? we idealize, but nevertheless we are feeling less anxious, clearer in our thinking, and more inspired and motivated.

Daily Muse: All of us invent ourselves. Some of us just have more imagination than others. (Cher ? Mars in Leo)

SATURDAY

July 13

Moon in Sagittarius

Moon goes Void of Course at 6:31pm enters Capricorn Sunday at 4:05pm

The Mood is definitely brighter and more expansive this morning as the Moon in optimistic and cheerful Sagittarius heads toward a hookup with jovial Jupiter. This keeps moods elevated, hopeful and confident. The only downside is a potential for being a tad lazy or generally hoping to get something for nothing. Who wouldn?t rather be lucky than have to work for everything?

It?s nice to feel hopeful and maybe let down our guard a bit. But be careful this doesn?t slip into being insensitive or irresponsible by thinking we can basically get away with anything. Tonight there is a danger of alienating a friend or loved one if we try to squeeze out of a responsibility or delegate something we should really be doing to someone else. The Moon?s square to Neptune reminds us to not let ego or selfishness cloud our judgment and relationships. Kindness never goes out of style.

Daily Muse: People often remark that I'm pretty lucky. Luck is only important in so far as getting the chance to sell yourself at the right moment. After that, you've got to have talent and know how to use it. (Frank Sinatra ? Mars in Leo)

SUNDAY

July 14

Moon in Sagittarius/Capricorn

Void of Course Moon enters Capricorn at  4:05pm

Today?s energy rolls in with a big thud as the Sun in sensitive and nurturing Cancer opposes Pluto in no-nonsense Capricorn. Although not impossible by any means, this is usually a psychologically and emotionally challenging energy. It can easily bring out our DEFENSES. Whether we need to defend ourselves isn?t the point; we?re going to get out the fences, walls, tanks, and big guns anyway. Unless of course we have done a lot of self-reflection and are able to understand the ways we want to project our own insecurities and guilt onto others. If we can get close to understanding our own issues, then we don?t need to make other people the ?bad guy?, the one that is guilty and deserving of ridicule or punishment.

This is also I highly competitive energy, even to the point we may strike first when we even suspect someone might come after us. As you can imagine, we are often wrong and stir up the very trouble we believe we are defending against.

Try to recognize the edginess in yourself and others, then give everyone a break. This energy can be tough and therefore, an excellent opportunity for healing and transforming a regret, frustration or seeming injustice in our lives.

The Moon is void of course all day until it enters responsible and sober Capricorn in late afternoon. Instead of taking actions on frustrations, do your best to root out the cause. Understanding why your buttons are being pushed will be a much more useful strategy in the short and long-term than trying to protect your vulnerabilities by making someone else guilty.

Pluto is the planet of regeneration and transformation. Bring your ?stuff? to the light and see useless baggage for what it really is.

Daily Muse: Nothing anybody's said or written about me ever bothers me, except when it does... Whatever else has been said about me personally is unimportant. When I sing, I believe. I'm honest. (Frank Sinatra ? Mars in Leo)
