Monday July 22- Sunday July 28
Astrological Highlights for the week: Happy Birthday Leo ? the Sun enters this dramatic playful sign on Monday and paves the way for Venus which enters Leo on Saturday. Mars is inspired by Jupiter on Thursday; but the balloon may burst on Friday when Mars and Saturn butt heads.
All hail to the King and Queen ? the season of playful, dramatic, and noble Leo is upon us. On Monday evening the Sun has a joyful reunion with its home sign. On Saturday, Venus also steps on stage where she?ll delight in finding both the Sun and Mars.
Planets in Leo offer us the opening to try on some new roles and embrace our playful, self-expressive and independent inner child. This creative sign likes to live large and with style and flare. No mistake artist Andy Warhol and fashion designers Coco Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent were graced with Sun in Leo. Many famous actors, performers, politicians and leaders exemplify Sun in Leo; but it?s not necessary to have the title to share the desire to be on stage and for drama! Often Leo?s strategy of being self-confident, bossy, and arrogant hides the truth; we are really seeking a sense of identity, ego, and purpose.
While the Sun is in theatrical Leo many of us crave an audience, but even more we are driven by passion and the need to be inspired by something bigger than ourselves. When we find our niche and are comfortable with our self-expression, Leo shines as a mentor and leader with a far-reaching influence of encouragement and inspiration. Despite a veneer of ?specialness? Leo is one of the most loving and generous signs.
When Venus also moves into Leo, (Saturday evening) we are even more ready to treat ourselves royally and indulgently. Nothing subtle, subdued, or understated about this energy! In Leo, Venus is bright, bold, dramatic, and highly creative. Leo loves to be in love with all the trappings and romantic strings attached. And even though she is a flirt, expects to be courted and adored, (flattery will get you everywhere), she is a faithful and loyal partner. Leo is a fixed sign, after all. And as such, Venus in this extroverted sign leans somewhat away from typically introverted, shy, feminine stereotypes, and archetypes for that matter. In Leo she is strong, dominant, and commanding. (Think Madonna, Andy Warhol, Nicole Kidman, Lauren Bacall, and Barbara Walters.) Remember the royalty factor with Leo. She is the queen and with this comes privilege, expectations, and even power. Love and romance can be fast moving and exciting with Venus in Leo. But if you are looking for the quiet and humble type, keep moving; you?re not likely to find it here.
Something else is brewing this week, what we astrologers refer to as a Yod, Finger of God, or Finger of Fate. It?s a triangle formed by three (or sometimes more) planets in which two of the planets are harmonizing and collaborating ? in this case Saturn in Capricorn with Neptune in Pisces. The third planet (sign) is odd man out forming challenging connections with both of the first two planets. This week, it?s Mars in Leo. To quote a famous movie line, ?Nobody puts baby in the corner.? It?s true; towards the end of the week when this Yod starts coming into place, Mars is not going to be a happy camper. This energy will extend through the middle of the following week. Interesting timing, as it will start to resolve around the time of Mercury moving direct and the next New Moon on July 31st.
We?ll talk more in next week?s Power Peek, but be aware this energy of Mars being thwarted can be challenging. Be ready to be flexible and optimistic, believing there are many paths to your destination and not just the one you are on. Expect some delays, obstacles and entanglements you probably were not anticipating. And remember, facing these challenges builds character. Or something like that!
Until next week, let go and wear loose clothes.
MONDAY
July 22
Moon in Pisces/Aries
Sun Enters Leo 7:51pm
Moon Goes Void of Course 1:34 am enters Aries at 3:03 am
The Moon shoots into fiery Aries in the early morning hours, getting our day off to an early start. Although Aries is known for independence and a ?me first? attitude, the mood is much more collaborative and cooperative than we might expect. Possibly that is the gift of nurturing Cancer which is saying goodbye to the Sun this evening. There is a full measure of this sensitive, domestic, and feminine water sign washing over us today.
The universe may feel like a strong and guiding hand reaching out to gently but firmly push us out of the nest. Mother energy doesn?t need to be smothering and clingy and this one is more of a mentor, willing to model mature and adult behavior allowing us to make our own mistakes. No doubt she is a bit anxious to see how we will fare on our own, but nevertheless, she?s ready to move on to interests of her own, and so should we.
This evening, we get that chance to embrace our playful, self-expressive and independent inner child as the Sun glides into its home sign of Leo.
While the Sun is in Leo many of us crave an audience, but even more we are driven by passion and the need to be inspired by something bigger than ourselves. When we find our niche and are comfortable with our self-expression, Leo shines as a mentor and leader with a far-reaching influence of light, encouragement, and inspiration. Despite a veneer of ?specialness? Leo is one of the most loving and generous signs.
Daily Muse: Hope is that thing inside us that insists, despite all evidence to the contrary, that something better awaits us if we have the courage to reach for it, and to work for it, and to fight for it. Hope is the belief that destiny will not be written for us, but by us, by the men and women who are not content to settle for the world as it is, who have the courage to remake the world as it should be? A change is brought about because ordinary people do extraordinary things. (Barack Obama ? Sun, Mercury, Uranus and North Node of the Moon in Leo)
TUESDAY
July 23
Moon in Aries
With the independent Aries Moon feeling jazzed up and self-assured with positive feedback from both Mars and Jupiter this morning we might be caught off guard when a sure thing turns out not to be. The Moon finds itself in a square situation with both strict Saturn and no-nonsense Pluto. An adjustment or compromise is required. Some challenges can only be successfully tackled with collaborators and reinforcements. Instead of thinking only about personal and independent interests, widen your perspective to consider what?s in the best interest of your group. This might include your family, co-workers, neighbors or even a much bigger community.
Vital tasks and important goals can be reached today when we are willing to re-adjust our thinking and our strategy. Even if we have faith we can go it alone, it?s more likely success will come to those willing to partner up and cooperate. Instead of denying your weaknesses, find someone who has strengths you don?t, and allow them to complement you. Today the whole really is bigger and better than the sum of the parts. Instead of individuality think synchronicity.
Daily Muse: We all do better when we work together. Our differences do matter, but our common humanity matters more? We cannot build our own future without helping others to build theirs. (Bill Clinton ? Sun, Mercury, Saturn and Pluto in Leo)
WENSDAY
July 24
Moon in Aries/Taurus
Moon Goes Void of Course 7:48am enters Taurus at 2:42pm
The energy could be very edgy this morning especially with family and loved ones; but I wouldn?t restrict the influence to only this area. The Moon in Aries doesn?t like to be restrained, which has been necessary the last couple of days. Early morning lunar squares to both Venus and Mercury may be a bit more than any of us can endure. Miscommunications are more than possible and we?ll have to be careful not to blame others for any frustrations, delays or upsets.
This afternoon we are looking for centering and grounding with the Moon moving into stable and unruffled Taurus. An early evening hookup between Mercury and Venus can help us patch up any earlier disagreements and is an opening to clear the air. With Mercury retrograde we might be finding more long-standing disagreements and inequities to address, which isn?t a bad idea. This retrograde pattern is the perfect time to set some things straight, apologize, and forgive previous transgressions.
The Sun in playful Leo squares the Moon in pragmatic Taurus this evening signaling the close of the third quarter of the lunar cycle. This is a reality check. The Sun may be telling us to party like there is no tomorrow, while the Moon cautions us to play it safe. Although we may want to splurge financially, chances are we?ll rein things in a bit. The Moon in Taurus can be immovable when it comes to paying more than something is worth. Leo may be attracted by the appearances, but Taurus is more attached to function.
Daily Muse: An artist is somebody who produces things that people don't need to have. (Andy Warhol ? Sun, Mercury, Venus and Neptune in Leo ? Jupiter, Chiron and Mars in Taurus)
THURSDAY
July 25
Moon in Taurus
The day begins with a very energetic and enthusiastic vibe when Mars in Leo is supported by an optimistic connection to over-the-top Jupiter. We are on the fast track most of the day fueled by the buoyancy of this planetary alignment. We may feel practically invincible until evening when the Moon in practical Taurus weighs in with a cautionary tale when it squares Mars. Burnout is averted as we heed the message with the Moon moving toward a disciplined alignment with sober Saturn later this evening.
If we are still fired up tonight and looking for action, the Moon in Taurus suggests we channel that energy into something close to home like spending time with family, washing the car, mowing the lawn, or cooking and enjoying a great meal.
Daily Muse: I enjoy cooking with wine. Sometimes I even put it in the food. (Julia Child ? Sun in Leo)
FRIDAY
July 26
Moon in Taurus/Gemini
Moon Goes Void of Course at 9:28pm enters Gemini at 11:29pm
We might take a look at the multiple favorable lunar connections today and see nothing but smooth sailing. Taurus Moons do have the ability to be unflappable. However, Mars in fiery Leo is starting a slow burn with a challenging connection to authoritarian Saturn, feeling very entitled and strong in his home sign of Capricorn. This is actually the first side of an astrological triangle referred to as a Yod, or ?the Finger of God? or the Finger of Fate.? Mars is also moving towards an equally disorienting connection with Neptune in Pisces. Put these three planets together in this specific configuration and Mars starts squirming ? a lot. We can expect to be under this influence through the middle of next week so fasten your seatbelt.
It may be understated today or maybe not. Likely we are feeling somewhat victimized by circumstances beyond our control ? the authorities, the government, our DNA, our parents, teachers and yada, yada, yada. And so it goes. We might feel very justified; after all, someone deceived us, was blatantly unkind or unfair, or maybe even worse.
Remember there is always more to the story than we can see, so don?t be quick to judge others or yourself. That being said, if you can avoid confrontations and situations where you are tempted to seek justice, at least for the short term, the long-term outcome might be better. If we force an issue or bring something to a premature conclusion, it?s not likely we will be immediately satisfied.
This can be unnerving energy, so be prepared. Know where you stand and what?s important. Know who you can trust and what you stand for. Allow others to have their own opinions and own stories. Avoid black-and-white, all or nothing thinking and behavior. Recognize that a temporary detour or delay is not permanent. Take this time to re-examine your path and your strategy. As Mars is momentarily stymied, we don?t need to be. If you keep the big picture in mind, you won?t let a curve ball throw you off your stance.
Note to you Leos with birthdays towards the end of July. You might be tempted to identify with this energy more so than other people. Beware of branding yourself unless those labels are empowering and emphasize your ability to overcome challenges and leave your mark on the world. You are nobody?s victim or fool.
Daily Muse: Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goals? Don?t find fault, find a remedy; anybody can complain? The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing. (Henry Ford ? Sun, Mercury and Mars in Leo)
SATURDAY
July 27
Moon in Gemini
Venus enters Leo 6:54pm
The wind is blowing from a new direction today as the Moon slid into versatile Gemini late last night. Even if we are feeling constrained by Mars? building challenge with Saturn, the Moon in Gemini reminds us we can make magic. Change our minds and change our story. It really is up to us. The Moon gets no argument from the Sun in Leo who is cheering us on.
This evening we are ready to treat ourselves royally and indulgently as Venus enters dramatic Leo. Daily Muse: I stand for freedom of expression, doing what you believe in, and going after your dreams?I'm tough, I'm ambitious, and I know exactly what I want. If that makes me a bitch, okay. (Madonna ? Sun, Venus and Uranus in Leo)
SUNDAY
July 28
Moon in Gemini
Moon Goes Void of Course at 8:25am enters Cancer Monday at 4:31am
We may not be quite as clever or witty as we think this morning with the Moon in chatty Gemini confused by a square to dreamy Neptune. Nothing serious here, but it is a reminder, especially with Gemini?s ruler Mercury being retrograde, that sometimes it?s ok, even better than ok, to admit we don?t know everything. Better to admit confusion, or being unsure than to charge forward acting like we are unstoppable. There is more than one hint here that know-it-alls will be taken down a notch today. Fortunately we can avoid the pitfall.
It actually can be a relief to be the understudy, the student, and the novice. Keeping the ?Student Mind? is a good thing today. If a conversation goes off the rails, blame it on Mercury retrograde, in good humor of course. We are getting really close to the end of Mercury?s backward motion (Wednesday night) so be patient and gentle with yourself and others.
Daily Muse: What is drama but life with the dull bits cut out. (Alfred Hitchcock Sun and Venus in Leo)
