The Week Ahead

Monday, December 21 through Sunday, December 27

Astrological Highlights for the week:
Winter Solstice – Sun enters Capricorn on Monday; Jupiter and Saturn join forces on Monday.

If you want to be in the know in 2021, start studying up on Uranus and its associated sign Aquarius. And while you’re at it, make sure you are up to date on Jupiter and Saturn. Both Saturn and Jupiter entered Aquarius this past week – no sense in waiting for the calendar to flip a page to spark a profound cosmic tsunami. As you may remember, Jupiter will transit through this progressive and non-conformist air sign until December of 2021 and Saturn will build new structures and foundations in Aquarius through the first week of March 2023.

Although ordinarily, the headline for this week would be the Winter Solstice with the Sun moving into Capricorn on Monday morning, the stunning conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn the same day will visually and emotionally grab our attention. A conjunction occurs when two planets join together at the same astrological degree – in this case 0 Aquarius. But it’s not just astrological. If you have been paying attention this summer you may have noticed Jupiter and Saturn (in Capricorn) moving closer and closer together in the evening sky. On Monday they will visually look as if they are one, hence, some people calling this the Christmas Star.

When two planets come together they give birth to or metaphorically create a new energy pattern. These two conjunct every 20 years, so in essence, the pattern they create will unfold over the next two decades. In the last 200 years Jupiter Saturn conjunctions have all occurred in Earth Signs. In the two centuries before that, the conjunctions were in Fire and before that it was in the Water Signs. From what I can tell, (and I still need to do more research) the last time Jupiter and Saturn came together in Aquarius was January of 1405.

Historically Jupiter has been referred to as the “Greater Benefic” making it the planet of benefit and luck. Jupiter corresponds to our desire to seek truth, and to find greater meaning in our lives. Jupiter is the urge within us to interpret our experiences and string them together in meaningful patterns. Hence our personal beliefs and philosophies are reflections of Jupiter’s influence and we think of Jupiter as the Storyteller.

Saturn has the historical title of the Greater Malefic – bringing bad luck and misfortune. Thank the gods many of us have moved away from these rigid and most unfortunate ideas. Personally, Saturn is one of my favorites. What’s not to like in a planet that represents strength, discipline, structure, creating order out of chaos and is both patient and wise? He may have his faults but his ability to get things done earns him the title of the “Great Manifestor.”

As a fan of repetition, you have heard me say it at least 100 times – I love Jupiter and Saturn together. Jupiter expands our vision and fuels inspiration and desire; and Saturn brings in the strategy, structure, and patience to make things happen. Their power together is truly greater than the sum of their parts. Even though they seem like an odd couple with paradoxical traits, when they get together it can be magic. Goals may be gigantic, but so is commitment.

Now put the two of them in the forward-thinking, progressive, innovative, and revolutionary sign of Aquarius; the sky is the limit. What can we expect? No idea is too weird or impossible, although Saturn will certainly let us know if something is truly too costly based on its analysis. Our dreams and goals will be expansive and visionary and we’ll have the discipline and dedication to break through mass consciousness and earth rules to push them into manifestation. Intuition will figure prominently in our visions and Saturn will make sure we can work with a singularity of purpose. You can count on it. No doubt there will be many ideas, but our dedication will be to our priorities without distraction. Jupiter expands while Saturn contracts and prioritizes. Even situations that seem extremely limited or restricted may prove fertile territory for success. Think quality over quantity.

Of course, these planets each have their shadows; but thankfully together they can have a positive impact on the other. Where Jupiter can be lusty and lazy; Saturn can be rigid and severe. With awareness and careful attention, we can avoid their pitfalls and use the strengths of each to moderate the weaknesses or excesses of the other.

Now a few words about Aquarius, a Fixed Air sign. As air, Aquarius is mental, friendly, social, and interested in the sharing of ideas. Aquarius – ruled by the revolutionary planet Uranus – is visionary, genius, humanitarian, rebellious, and revolutionary. The Fixed part of this sign means it’s loyal, persistent, partial to ingrained habits, and sometimes (ok, often) stubborn.

While Jupiter and Saturn are in Aquarius and for those two decades when their energetic pattern continues to influence, we will be drawn to social reform, the unexpected, the new and the novel. We’ll attract Jupiter luck by being tolerant, open, inventive, experimental, altruistic, and humanitarian. We’ll build the strength of Saturn with a willingness to trust our instincts and analysis, and be disciplined and dedicated to our goals and passions.

What we have to watch out for: arrogance – believing it has to be our way or the highway or that we are the only source and messenger of truth. Push Aquarian energy too far and it’s easy to end up living in an Ivory Tower, being an intellectual snob, and totally out of touch. Insensitivity is an unfortunate downside to Aquarius. Genius Albert Einstein born with Jupiter in Aquarius may have said it best, "I love humanity; it’s people I can’t stand."

As a final but surely not insignificant thought; Aquarius is associated with the Star card in the Tarot. The Star represents healing and renewal, a light in darkness, finding our way in the dark, knowing we each have an inner light and guidance system, hope, luck, following your own path, being a trailblazer, awakening, and enlightenment.

Think about what you would like to expand and manifest in 2021 and beyond. And don’t worry if you aren’t feeling particularly creative. As we hitch our wagon to the Star of Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius our minds will explode with possibilities. Then we will pick up the pieces, prioritize, design some new and interesting patterns and manifest a grander scale then we believed possible.

Happy Holidays to all!

Until next week, let go and wear loose clothes.

MONDAY
December 21
Sun enters Capricorn 2:03am
Winter Solstice
Moon goes Void of Course at 2:24am enters Aries at 2:32pm

On this shortest day of the year (Winter Solstice in Northern Hemisphere) the day is nevertheless long enough to hold a number of cosmic promises. Just a few hours after midnight (Pacific Time) the Solstice ushers the Sun into earthy Capricorn and into the last quarter of the astrological year.

The Sun’s entry into Capricorn signals the desire to bring order to chaos using structure and discipline. During this coming month, we will see efforts to move away from the whimsical "what if?" nature of Sagittarius and movement towards restoration of responsibility. Capricorn is serious, pragmatic, patient, and not afraid of hard work. One useful analogy maybe we party and spend money while the Sun is in expansive and adventurous Sagittarius (late November and December) but when the Sun enters Capricorn, those holiday expenditures and indulgences start coming due. Capricorn will encourage us to correct for the excesses of our behavior while the Sun was in sunny and Sagittarius.

Mid-morning expansive Jupiter joins with pragmatic Saturn at 0 Aquarius. This is the cosmic event people have been chatting about for weeks. Some are calling it the “Christmas Star” because of the visual spectacle it creates when the two join their lights in the evening sky. Astrologically speaking it is a big deal as the energies of the two planets combine to give birth to an energetic pattern that will influence for the next 20 years. Jupiter supplies the fiery inspiration and Saturn provides the practical discipline and structure to facilitate manifestation. The future is ours to create with both planets in Aquarius.

The Moon is in otherworldly Pisces through mid-afternoon. Losing ourselves in imagination and fantasy can be entertaining, but it’s hardly a long-term destination. The Sun’s entry into Capricorn affirms this! Today we realize the bridge between idea and reality is action.

The Moon’s entry into courageous Aries mid-afternoon can certainly get the ball rolling. Its first mission is to kiss both Jupiter and Saturn sending congratulatory affirmations of the newborn energy. But headstrong and sometimes young and Naïve, the Aries Moon quickly bumps into conflicting squares with the Sun and Mercury both in Capricorn. Our hearts are saying "Let’s get going!” while our heads are cautiously and carefully devising a plan. Although somewhat annoying, this is merely a short-term delay. What is worth doing is worth doing well. Be patient and don’t skip any steps.

Daily Muse: If I have ever made any valuable discoveries, it has been due more to patient attention, than to any other talent… If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants. (Isaac Newton – Sun in Capricorn; Jupiter and Saturn conjunct in Pisces)

TUESDAY
December 22
Moon in Aries

Venus in optimistic Sagittarius connects with the Moon early this morning, but nevertheless, we might feel agitated or pouty, especially if we don’t get our way, or loved ones are not as excited as we are about an idea or activity. Reflecting the light of a Sun in traditional and cautious Capricorn, the Moon in spontaneous Aries is feeling a bit betrayed. What’s the use of having all this energy and excitement if everyone is going to be a party pooper? What’s the fun in that?

Well, it may not be fun (like wearing masks, maintaining a safe social distance from others, or doing housework) but the prevailing energy in practical Capricorn (Sun, Mercury, and Pluto) is still encouraging us to avoid unnecessary risks and take care of the essentials.

Emotionally we may feel abandoned or disappointed – the Moon in Aries does not like the word "No"! Fortunately, even a petulant toddler can be easily distracted by something interesting and stimulating. No need to get angry or push a situation to crash and burn. If one avenue of activity or entertainment is blocked, try something else. This is one of those times when acting rashly may be quickly regretted. Some limitations can point us in the direction of worthwhile detours.

Daily Muse: It is important to the typical 'Star Trek' fan that there is a tomorrow. They pretty much share the 'Star Trek' philosophies about life: the fact that it is wrong to interfere in the evolvement of other peoples, that to be different is not necessarily to be wrong or ugly… If man is to survive, he will have learned to take a delight in the essential differences between men and between cultures. He will learn that differences in ideas and attitudes are a delight, part of life's exciting variety, not something to fear. (Gene Roddenberry – Jupiter conjunct Saturn in Virgo)

WENSDAY
December 23
Moon in Aries
The Moon goes Void of Course at 2:51pm

THURSDAY
December 24
Moon in Aries/Taurus
The Void of Course Moon enters Taurus at 2:55am

The Moon eases into pleasure-seeking Taurus in the early morning hours; a good omen for holiday celebrations. Nobody appreciates good food and the finer things in life more than Venus-ruled Taurus! Although the Moon conflicts with Saturn and Jupiter in idealistic and revolutionary Aquarius before daybreak, these cosmic disturbances are likely to be interpreted as excitement rather than tension. Young and old alike may jump out of bed early in anticipation of the day’s festivities.

For the rest of the day, the Moon makes harmonizing connections with the Sun and Mercury both in utilitarian Capricorn. Although this energy creates efficiency and flow for last-minute wrapping of presents, cleaning the house, or prepping for holiday celebrations, it can also feel a bit mundane. We can consciously choose to infuse even the most routine tasks with good cheer with attitudes of gratitude. Many of us will not be spending the holiday according to our cherished traditions but this doesn’t mean we can’t be creative and experiment with some new rituals and celebrations.

In fact, it’s probably a mandate to change things up as the Moon joins with Uranus – the planet of spontaneity and liberation. We may not be able to liberate ourselves from the necessary precautions prescribed during the pandemic and economic instability of 2020, but we can certainly free ourselves from outdated and habitual responses. The theme of being inventive and experimental is reinforced later this evening when Mercury in Capricorn also makes a harmonizing connection with Uranus. Conversations will be sparkling! Break out of the mold and be original this holiday season.

Jupiter and Saturn conjunct in Aquarius along with the voice of Uranus being cranked up this evening resonates strongly with starlight and hope. In the darkest skies, the stars are visual reminders of stories and myths too numerous to name. They are symbols with both ancient and modern meanings including stories of love affairs and battles, divine guidance, and protection. Aquarius is even associated with the "Star" card – one of the Major Arcana – in Tarot. Here are some meanings, in no way inclusive or comprehensive; the Star represents healing and renewal, a light in the darkness, finding our way in the dark, knowing we each have an inner light and guidance system, hope, luck, following your own path, being a trailblazer, awakening, and enlightenment.

Daily Muse: He does not have to fight to save himself. He does not have to kill the dragons which he thought pursued him. Nor need he erect the heavy walls of stone and iron doors he thought would make him safe. He can remove the ponderous and useless armor made to chain his mind to fear and misery. His step is light, and as he lifts his foot to stride ahead a star is left behind, to point the way to those who follow him. (A Course In Miracles, Workbook for Students Lesson 134 – Let me perceive forgiveness as it is.)

FRIDAY
December 25
Moon in Taurus
Merry Christmas

Christmas day is presided over by a sensuous Taurus Moon. May we eat, drink and be Merry! The traditional cautions are hardly necessary but here goes anyway. Enjoy yourself but be aware if you are substituting quick and easy satisfaction for more enduring forms of contentment – food and drink often fall into this category. But other things, such as deprivation and denial do too. If you are missing loved ones or feeling deprived by not being able to travel or participate in your usual holiday activities, it’s more than ok to feel sad or even angry. Or maybe Santa doesn’t bring us that desirable gift or experience. We don’t need to judge feelings. Expressing them and observing them may be enough.

A sobering voice speaks up today when the Sun in sensible and realistic Capricorn squares Chiron (the Wounded Healer) in Aries. Chiron represents both our deepest spiritual and emotional wounds and our path to wholeness and healing. When the Sun squares Chiron there is a tendency to judge ourselves as inadequate or undeserving. There’s nothing like the expectations of the holidays to leave us feeling emotionally exposed and vulnerable. In the midst of almost unprecedented change in our world, it’s natural to feel unsure of the future and of ourselves. Be prepared and don't fall prey to your own inner voice of judgment, and try to not over-react to a perceived slight from a loved one. Your accumulated experiences equal more wisdom than you know. Trust yourself and your inner light.

Make today one of peace, contentment, and satisfaction by remaining firmly and gently in your own space. Don’t give your power away or allow others’ opinions to be more important than your own. In the spirit of the Taurus Moon – be good to your body – get enough sleep, balance activity with relaxation, treat yourself to food that delights, move your body, and don't forget to drink water – especially if you are indulging in alcohol.

Daily Muse: My idea of Christmas, whether old-fashioned or modern, is very simple: loving others. Come to think of it, why do we have to wait for Christmas to do that?
(Bob Hope)

SATURDAY
December 26
Moon in Taurus/Gemini
The Moon goes Void of Course at 3:31 am enters Gemini 3:33pm
Today is well suited for taking it easy, maybe indulging in leftovers, enjoying the comforts of home and family, and delegating any tough decisions or hard work to another day. The Taurus Moon thrives on comfort and moves into a twelve-hour void of course pattern in the middle of the night that extends till mid-afternoon. Give yourself permission to mellow out.

The Moon’s entry into chatty Gemini this afternoon may pick up the pace a bit, especially tonight when it connects with Saturn and Jupiter in stimulating Aquarius. We may have a renewed interest in considering the future or talking over-ambitious plans with friends and family.

Daily Muse: I never studied anything, really. I didn't study the drums. I joined bands and made all the mistakes onstage…I've never been able to sit round on my own and play drums, practice in the back room, never been able to. I've always played with other musicians. It's how I play, there's no joy for me in playing on my own, bashing away. I need a bass, a piano, guitar, whatever, and then I can play- I've said this over and over again, but I love being in a band. (Ringo Starr – Jupiter conjunct Saturn in Taurus)

SUNDAY
December 27
Moon in Gemini

We just can't keep the revolutionary mind and voice of Uranus quiet this week as the next chapter unfolds with the Sun in Capricorn forming an auspicious trine with Uranus this evening. Uranus resonates with our need to break free of limitations and personal boundaries and defenses. As the Sun represents our Egos, it’s not hard to imagine this energy is a stimulus to helping us believe we can indeed shape our futures and change the trajectory of our world. Although unpredictable change can leave even the brave feeling insecure, this positive alliance between the Sun and Uranus restores our hope and faith in ourselves.

Today we are infused with a positive belief in self-improvement. Maybe we remember a time when we faced a challenge and succeeded beautifully. We have faith in our ability to overcome and to master whatever we put our minds to. This is the energy of problem solving, creativity, thinking outside the box, recognizing truth, and affirming hope.

The Moon in Gemini is feeling social today, reaching out to others and networking in a variety of ways. A lunar opposition to Venus late tonight could create a fleeting moment of disagreement with a loved one, or be a temporary roadblock to the flow of our creativity.

Daily Muse: You miss 100 percent of the shots you never take. (Wayne Gretzky – Jupiter conjunct Saturn in Capricorn)

The Week Ahead

Monday, January 4th through Sunday, January 10th

Astrological Highlights for the week:
Mars enters Taurus on Wednesday; on Friday, Mercury enters Aquarius and Venus enters Capricorn.

This first week of January 2021 is off and running with three planets changing signs. Of particular importance, is Mars (the planet of action, inspiration, energy, and motivation) FINALLY leaving Aries and entering Taurus on Wednesday afternoon. If you follow the planets, you realize Mars ordinarily spends 6 weeks in each sign. Because of a retrograde pattern late last summer Mars spent 6 Months in its home sign of Aries! Even if we loved this fiery, passionate energy, we probably are feeling a bit of that scorched earth burnout and ready to move on.

Mars in Taurus is a welcome sight for those who favor substantial achievements with long-term sustainability. Moving through Fixed Earth may not be Mars’ favorite way to travel but it has its advantages. Remember Taurus is ruled by Venus, the planet of values. When Mars transits through Taurus we willingly and doggedly pursue our desires and what we believe has value. Once we make up our mind, we will move heaven and earth to make it happen. This is the sign of the Bull!

Mars in Taurus is sensuous and sexual, craves physical comforts and pleasures, and enjoys beautiful things, good food, and abundance on all levels. When Mars is in Taurus we desire and we lust! Fortunately, we also tend to be determined and single-minded. We may not move quickly, but we are persistent and dependable. We will arrive at the goal!

Taurus is also simple in other ways too. It understands that from humble beginnings great things grow. A small seed or idea planted now and carefully and patiently nourished can reap great rewards when mature. This includes investments, projects, relationships, and any kind of “garden” you can imagine. Mars in Aries lit the fire; Mars in Taurus gathers the resources and raw materials and gets things going.

During this beginning period be patient. This is especially necessary as Mars will conflict with Saturn and Jupiter in the Fixed mental Air sign of Aquarius (January 13 and 22 respectively). We can be determined but not rash. Skipping steps or wanting to jump to the front of the line or end of the project is not appropriate or effective. If we want to build for the future, we must keep the vision in mind, but keep our hands and feet in the here and now. We will get a surprising opportunity or push forward on January 20th when Mars connects with innovative Uranus. Remember too that Taurus is an Earth sign – be prepared to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty. Mars in Taurus isn’t one for sitting on the sidelines; unless of course, we can figure out how to delegate effectively from the couch.

Also this week, both Mercury and Venus change signs within a few hours of each other on Friday morning. Mercury the thinker and communicator light our minds on fire as it breezes into progressive and humanitarian Aquarius. This is the Mercury placement for visionaries, inventors, and good old fashioned rebels and revolutionaries. While Mercury is in Aquarius, our minds race ahead of our bodies. Taking our lead from provocative Uranus (ruler of Aquarius) we are likely to be brilliant, outspoken, and opinionated. Don’t count on diplomacy to be in the list! Aquarius follows the lead of Prometheus who stole fire from the gods in order to satisfy his vision. We don’t mind prodding ourselves and others to step outside of our comfort zones.

Venus, on the other end of the spectrum enters cautious and socially more appropriate Capricorn. We are devoted to home and family, and committed to work, job, and career when she is under the influence of dedicated Capricorn. This Venus is looking to settle down; she wants security and the promise of a long-term commitment before she’ll devote her time and/or life to you. This applies across the board, to employment, friendship, leisure activities, and lovers.

Venus’ devotion to tried and true values will be a nice balance to the zany and forward-thinking energy of Mercury. As an extra bonus this Saturday, Venus will connect with her cosmic soulmate, Mars – currently in Taurus (also an Earth sign). This sets the stage for sweet and sensuous trysts for lovers, and for the rest of us, an opportunity to satisfy some physical appetites. In this season of mental Aquarius, it’s important to ground ourselves by remembering to stay in our bodies. Enjoy yourself.

Until next week, let go and wear loose clothes.

MONDAY
January 4
Moon in Virgo/Libra
Moon goes Void of Course at 1:34pm and enters Libra at 9:42pm
Ready or not, it’s time to jump into the New Year. The most significant planetary interaction of the day encourages the relentless pursuit of information, bestows profound focus and concentration, and the ability to communicate effectively and persuasively. We are talking about Mercury’s meet-up with no-nonsense Pluto in Capricorn in late afternoon. Don’t get rigid about the timing. Although it may be more intense this afternoon, the energy builds throughout the day. This is excellent energy for writers, speakers, and communicators when handled with honesty and respect.

The Moon in analytical Virgo (ruled by Mercury) foreshadows the sharpening of the mind and communications as it makes reinforcing connections to both Mercury and Pluto mid-day. On the positive side, we are fearless ambassadors for an idea or a cause. The alchemy of Mercury and Pluto allow us to share targeted information in the most persuasive way possible. We can carefully evaluate our audience and intended response and adjust accordingly. The shadow side is the tendency to overwhelm or manipulate. We believe we are educating and influencing people, when in fact we are bullying them.

A Lunar square to Venus in Sagittarius this afternoon, further indicates we may alienate others with sharp words, even if they are true ones. Others may feel chastised or censured by our talk, even if we believe we are simply expressing a personal opinion. Following this interaction at 1:34 (Pacific Time) the Moon is void of course until late evening. We may have lost our audience, or maybe it’s just time to regroup and consider how best to communicate our message.

Know your intention. It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking we are saying or behaving a certain way for “your own good.” Is it? Or is it simply selfishness? We usually feel better when people agree with us and justified when they agree with our opinions and positions. Heads up: with Saturn and Jupiter now in progressive and independent Aquarius we will all learn a lesson or two this year about balancing our need to be accepted as part of a group and our desire to express our truth, even if it means being a voice in the wilderness.

Fortunately, in the late evening when the Moon enters peace-making Libra, we have a chance to make amends. We are more likely to really listen to each other rather than focusing only on what we have to say.

Daily Muse: When I am getting ready to reason with a man, I spend one-third of my time thinking about myself and what I am going to say and two-thirds about him and what he is going to say. (Abraham Lincoln – Mercury conjunct Pluto in Pisces)

TUESDAY
January 5
Moon in Libra
Long before dawn, the Moon in diplomatic Libra aligns with Saturn and Jupiter in social-minded Aquarius. We are probably not awake for them, but our dreams may be filled with symbols of unity and peace. Not that we are so naïve to believe these concepts are easy to manifest, but our hearts are cued to turn in this direction. Since manifestation is preceded by thoughts and ideas, this is not such a bad place to be – considering ways to bring more harmony into our relationships.

In early morning the Moon opposes Chiron in Aries, highlighting our inner struggle between cherishing our independence and finding ways to be part of a couple, team, or group. With Chiron involved, we are encouraged to re-think the ways we assert our independence as a way of protecting fragile and fearful egos. When we are able to address our fears and vulnerabilities we are more equipped to act with wisdom and maturity in all relationships. Being aware of our fears we are less likely to project them onto others or believe we are victims. Tip to the wise – any voice in your head that says you are unlovable or undeserving is clueless. This is fear talking, not a message from source.

The cosmos is being relatively quiet today – not really, but there are no significant planetary interactions to grab our attention. This may resonate within as a need to be quiet, or at least spend some quality time alone with our studies, writing, journaling, meditating, creating, spiritual practices, or solo activities. This is a good day to turn away from distractions and talking heads, to separate our thoughts and ideas from those of others.

Daily Muse: Knowing your own darkness is the best method for dealing with the darkness's of other people. (Carl Jung – Saturn in Aquarius, Chiron in Aries)

WENSDAY
January 6
Moon in Libra
Mars enters Taurus 2:27pm
The Moon goes Void of Course at 9:54pm

The Moon in Libra squares the Sun in Capricorn (1:37 am Pacific Time.) This pivotal monthly conflict alerts us to the need to make an adjustment somewhere and is the doorway to the final quarter of the lunar cycle. It may indicate a tough choice needs to be made as the Moon also squares Pluto this afternoon and Mercury this evening. We are passionate and possibly compulsive about our behaviors and communications, taking things, oh so seriously. It may be very difficult to not act on emotion, even when our heads are guiding us differently. Even simple or relatively inconsequential decisions may suddenly appear to be momentous. There are weighty matters afoot, but adding additional drama to the equation will not make an individual person, group, or position any more important or consequential. Attempt to be both clear thinking and tuned into your intuition. Try to recognize how emotion is influencing your thinking. Just be aware.

Of Cosmic importance, today: Mars (the planet of action, inspiration, energy, and motivation) FINALLY leaves Aries and enters Taurus this afternoon. This has been a long time coming since Mars retrograded in Aries in the fall of 2020 and has been in this fiery sign since last June.

Mars moving into Taurus is the signal to take an inspiration or idea and move on it. This Earth sign is determined and persistent. Quit talking and start acting on what’s important. This period between now and March 2nd is perfect for planting the seeds for any relationship, project, change, or investment that is important to you. Start now and expect to be patient. This is an auspicious time to build for the future, the operative word being “build”. Taurus wants to see movement but knows achievement and projects that endure take time. Take a giant leap forward or a baby step; but get going.

Daily Muse: Peace is a daily, a weekly, a monthly process, gradually changing opinions, slowly eroding old barriers, quietly building new structures; and however undramatic the pursuit of peace, that pursuit must go on. (John F. Kennedy – Mars in Taurus - Address before the United Nations, September 20 1963)

THURSDAY
January 7
Moon in Libra/Scorpio
Void of Course Moon enters Scorpio at 12:53am
It probably feels like we are on a trip to crazytown (that’s a highly technical term!), but keep breathing and don’t believe everything you see or hear. The Moon slips into mysterious and psychologically complex Scorpio shortly after midnight (Pacific Time). Under the cover of darkness Luna then provokes Mars in Taurus with an opposition, and gets thrown on the defensive by a square to powerful Saturn in Aquarius. This Moon has emotional tenacity and power, but she’s in the ring with some pretty heavy hitters; and the hits just keep coming. By dawn the Moon gets involved in a scuffle with Jupiter in Aquarius and by mid-day is facing off with an opposition to Uranus.

This is a transient but volatile T-square involving three of the four Fixed signs (Taurus, Scorpio and Aquarius). You remember them – they are loyal, persistent, and stubborn. Those of you heavily influenced by Leo (the fourth Fixed sign) will likely feel the energy fairly acutely too. As above, since we are talking about the Moon the energy can peak and quickly dissipate, but often not without some bumps and bruises. Especially with the Moon in sensitive and intense Scorpio there could be some side effects that need to be addressed and healed.

Under this influence we may feel misunderstood and alone. Even worse we may feel unable to connect with our truth and/or with others following an unexpected event or disappointment. What usually works for us doesn’t seem to and we might imagine the world wobbling on its axis – hence the feeling of Crazytown. This is a time for faith. An initial setback or perception may be overturned or what we think is happening is an interim conclusion and not the end of the story.

From a psychic perspective, it feels to me like a quivering arrow. We took aim and released the arrow; now an unanticipated wind is sending our intention or action in an unexpected direction. It’s true we may have to take aim again and start the process over, or perhaps we need to just wait and see where this first attempt ends up. Just because it is different from our original vision, doesn’t mean it won’t be useful.

On the other hand maybe instead of shooting arrows we should fly a kite! Whether this particular emotional energy feels good to you or not, try to take advantage of the prevailing winds instead of blowing against them. The story is far from over, and tomorrow the winds will certainly be once again taking us on some new adventures as both Mercury and Venus change signs in the early morning hours.

Daily Muse: First the doctor told me the good news: I was going to have a disease named after me. (Steve Martin – Moon in Scorpio)

FRIDAY
January 8
Moon in Scorpio
Mercury enters Aquarius 4am
Venus enters Capricorn 7:41am
The Moon goes Void of Course at 5:58 pm
Life still feels a bit crazy or discombobulated today; but we are starting to put the pieces together in some new and pleasing patterns. In the very early morning (dark-thirty) Mercury the thinker and communicator sails into airy and mentally provocative Aquarius. This is the Mercury placement for visionaries and inventors like Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Edison, for those who seem to always be ahead of the curve – Oprah Winfrey, George Harrison, John Belushi, and Gertrude Stein; and good old fashioned revolutionaries working for change like Martin Luther King Jr.

Mercury in Aquarius is quick-moving, so don’t be surprised if you are not finishing your sentences today. It’s hard for our mouths to keep up with our brains. In the sign of revolution and rebellion (ruled by Uranus the cosmic provocateur), Mercury is opinionated, outspoken, brilliant, and not particularly diplomatic or what we might call politically correct. But despite its abrupt and sometimes confusing presentation, Mercury in Aquarius comes up with some pretty interesting and visionary ideas. They are likely to sound crazy at first, but just wait for the blanks to get filled in. Combine Mercury in Aquarius with a touch of talent and you might be a first rate writer and speaker capable of inspiring the masses.

By dawn, another cosmic shift unfolds as Venus the planet of values, (often simplified as love and money) enters pragmatic Capricorn.

A topsy-turvy week is feeling more manageable with both the Sun and Moon aligning with Neptune in Pisces today. This doesn’t make things seem any more logical, but we are able to see the silver lining in even the darkest of clouds. Neptune in Pisces restores our belief and faith in there being another way of perceiving what we think we see. Even for the non-metaphysical, this energy is compassionate and sensitive allowing us to forgive ourselves and others.

Overlooking slights and annoyances is easier until the Moon in Scorpio makes a connection with Pluto. This isn’t exactly a wrench in the works, but I can imagine thinking “I am willing to overlook this if you promise to NEVER do or say it again!” Instead of forgiveness, we are more likely to be looking for the Delete or Cancel options. This seems more likely with Mercury in Aquarius quickly moving into a conflicting square with Mars in Taurus this evening. This could create more fireworks as minds and actions are not in alignment. It might also indicate we are frustrated because we can’t get the material universe to operate at the speed of our ideas and thoughts.

Daily Muse: Justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those who are. (Benjamin Franklin – Mercury in Aquarius, Venus in Capricorn)

SATURDAY
January 9
Moon in Scorpio/Sagittarius
Void of Course Moon enters Sagittarius 3:15am
The emotional intensity starts to lighten up as the Moon jumps into hopeful and optimistic Sagittarius early this morning. However, don’t conclude that Jupiter-ruled Sagittarius has nothing on its mind other than fun and games. Sagittarian Moons are truth-seeking. Their adventures and wanderings have a purpose. As we draw close to the end of this lunar cycle (New Moon next Tuesday) we find ourselves feeling less gregarious and more philosophical.

Sagittarius is a mutable sign, sharing both divine and mortal characteristics; we may find ourselves walking the line between the worlds of spirit and the material. We may be actively searching for ways to bridge the gap between our spiritual beliefs and values and how we live our lives on planet earth. How do we resolve those daily dilemmas that inevitably show up? Being kind may be a goal, but doing it feels like a marathon feat of Olympic proportions! The cosmos is giving us a lot of help today. That Moon in Sagittarius makes supportive connections with Mercury, Saturn, and Jupiter all in humanitarian Aquarius. We may find lots of ways to express those feelings in loving and evolved ways.

And there are likely to be some fun and games and bright spots with Venus in earthy Capricorn making a sensual connection to Mars in Taurus. Finding ways to delight ourselves might come a whole lot easier today than earlier in the week. If you are feeling ragged, run-down or scattered, focus on your body and what it needs to feel satisfied and grounded.

Tonight minds are in hyper-active overdrive in Aquarius but a merger with slow-moving Saturn could put on the brakes. Rather, I’d expect Saturn will help solidify ideas and encourage us to ground and focus our ideas instead of letting them spin out of control and evaporate. Writing them down in a notebook or using a journal could be very helpful. Otherwise, we might find ourselves wondering, “What was that great idea I had the other day?”

Daily Muse: Today, I challenge myself, as Herbert Spencer would put it, to abandon “contempt prior to investigation.” I try to hang out longer in that troubling zone known as ambiguity, while still maintaining my principles. It is a tricky but worthwhile pursuit, one I place squarely in the realm of spiritual practice. (Ashley Judd – Mars in Taurus, 4 planets in Aries along with North Node of the Moon and Chiron!)

SUNDAY
January 10
Moon in Sagittarius
The Moon goes Void of Course at 10:29am
The Moon in philosophical Sagittarius makes a square to Neptune in Pisces today. Although squares create conflict, this occurs between two adaptive and flexible signs. It doesn’t mean everything feels hunky-dory this morning, but it’s less jarring than it could be. Neptune in Pisces is drawing us to look for truth through an altered view or perception, while the Moon may be convincing us reading one more book, exploring one more path, or turning over one more stone may be the answer. I have a suspicion they are both saying something pretty similar!

Their conflict may leave us feeling somewhat disconnected or judging ourselves as not having found the right key. Maybe the right one doesn’t have anything to do with following the perfect path, discipline, or guru but learning how to quiet our minds and connect with our source in whatever way feels right. Maybe today, the key is nothing more than laying down our judgment of ourselves.

One way to snap out of an uncomfortable mood is to do something physical and take action. With both Venus and Mars in Earth signs (Capricorn and Taurus) and the Moon moving void of course from mid-morning onward, put off solving the problems of the world or finding the perfect spiritual path until another day. For now, focus on what makes your body comfortable and gives you a sense of mastering the physical universe. Hint this may mean nothing more than creating a gourmet lunch and then doing the dishes!

Daily Muse: I don’t want to be a supermodel; I want to be a role model. (Queen Latifah – Mars in Taurus)
