The Week Ahead

Monday February 22nd through Sunday February 28th

Astrological Highlights for the week:
Mars is energized by a trine to Pluto on Wednesday; on Thursday Venus enters Pisces and the Sun makes a clever connection to Uranus; Full Moon in Virgo on Saturday

Early Thursday morning Venus is looking to balance the cosmic scales as she quits team Aquarius and joins team Pisces. For those who love Aquarius, no worries. Mercury is still in this progressive sign as are Jupiter and Saturn. The latter two are not going anywhere soon!

Venus in intuitive and imaginative Pisces is known for her artistry, creativity, and sensitivity. Astrologer Skye Alexander describes Venus in Pisces as “indicative of the creative genius or the madman.” I can see that! This is the Venus position that is idealistic, romantic, and has the ability to see the sparkling diamond even in the roughest specimen. She can go from being totally picky, wanting nothing less than perfection, to being blinded by the light of her affection and love. She is sometimes oblivious to the human flaws in her beloved that everyone else notices right away.

Venus in Pisces’ undying devotion extends to whomever and whatever she loves. It can include a job, a pet, an idea, a home or whatever. If she loves it, it can be heaven on earth. She is looking for, even demanding, a soul connection and spiritual union that transcend material limitations and boundaries. It’s a lot to live up to on planet earth!

Call it a psychic hunch or call me a cynic, but I think this cycle of Venus in Pisces is going to be more about balancing the scales and making adjustments in our relationships than in merging. Maybe we have lost parts of ourselves along the way, or maybe we need to release some of the detachment we embraced when Venus was in Aquarius.

During the next three weeks I suspect in many areas of life we are going to be looking for more “soul connection” or alignment but this will not necessarily look like passive acceptance, surrender, or martyrdom. Remember Venus is the planetary ruler of Libra. When she is in Pisces she will be less willing to submit to unfair situations or in partnerships that are unbalanced, overly restricted, or one-sided. There will be shakeups that will help restore a sense of beauty, equity, grace, and humanity to our relationships and our lives. The process may not be beautiful, but the end result will be. This balancing act will require tearing down, releasing, assessment and rebuilding. The goal will be to strengthen our relationships and infuse our lives with more creativity and spirituality.

There is also a Full Moon on Saturday that weaves together the enchantment of the Sun in perceptive and intuitive Pisces with the awesome logical and systematic organization of the Moon in Virgo. The Full Moon occurs shortly after midnight (Pacific Time) so for night owls this is still Friday night. If you want to get the scoop, be sure to read the daily write-up on Friday and be ready to set your intentions late that night / early Saturday morning.

Like many Full Moons, this one contains the possibility of enchantment. Understanding our interconnectedness instead of focusing on differences helps us find that sweet spot of delicious service Virgo craves. We are the gracious mid-wife, the mentor, and the master gently guiding our charges with imagination and tenderness. We understand how to give without losing ourselves and how to develop trust without becoming dependent.

Until next week, let go and wear loose clothes.

MONDAY
February 22
Moon in Cancer

With the cosmic dance leaning a little more toward the sensitive and intuitive water signs – Sun and Neptune in Pisces and the Moon in Cancer – we may come off the weekend feeling a bit vulnerable. We might feel further exposed with the Cancer Moon conflicting with Chiron in Aries. Our first response could be defensiveness but we won’t stay there long. Mid-morning the Moon will align with the Great Awakener, Uranus. With his ability to be innovative we begin to see the way out of disappointment or hurt feelings. Be open to unusual solutions that come seemingly out of the blue.

Cancer is an initiating, take charge Cardinal sign. Although she has a brooding and moody side, she is also the embodiment of nurturing energy that rises up from heartache and tragedy to take care of herself and others. She is the spirit of those in Texas checking in on neighbors, handing out bottled water, and rescuing several thousand "cold-stunned" sea turtles in danger of drowning in the waters off the Texas coastline.

There are plenty of reasons to feel forgotten, betrayed, or confused but there is a way out. Remember your strengths and look for the place where they can be unselfishly used today. Try to look beyond idealized pictures of how things should be, and simply be responsive to the situation as you find it. This might even mean crying with someone in pain if that is the compassionate thing to do. Don’t deny feelings of disappointment or heartache; instead find ways to let them empower you to make a difference.

Daily Muse: We are a nation not only of dreamers, but also of fixers. We have looked at our land and people, and said, time and time again, "This is not good enough; we can be better. (Dan Rather, "What Unites Us: Reflections on Patriotism" -Moon in Cancer)

TUESDAY
February 23
Moon in Cancer
The Moon goes Void of Course 8:54pm

The Moon in Cancer has decided to turn away from her insecure and hypersensitive side in favor of sustaining and protecting. Cancer has an amazing ability to "create family.” I'm not talking about having babies – although they are pretty good at that too! I'm referring to their ability to create family bonds with anyone they connect with. Although they can be strongly territorial, they decide who is in the inner circle and are generous about the inclusion criteria!

The Cancer Moon is at her life-giving and empathetic best this morning when she connects with Neptune in Pisces. We are ready to look beyond the usual boundaries and gently embrace others into our fold. This unselfish energy carries us through the day. In addition to finding a multitude of ways to open our hearts and homes, this is also a very creative energy. Your unique way of nurturing life and supporting positive attitudes and lifestyles might be through communication, the arts, teaching, or some other way rather than direct service.

We are still feeling energized and enthusiastic this evening when the Moon connects with Mars in Taurus. This may manifest as physical energy or restlessness or maybe as emotional expressiveness. This is quickly followed by a subduing force as the Moon opposes Pluto in Capricorn. This is the cosmos' way of keeping our expectations reasonable; reminding us ambitious plans require a patient step-by-step approach.

Daily Muse: We can change by changing our attitudes and patterns of behavior. In so doing, we change our destiny. (Isabel M. Hickey – Moon and Neptune in Cancer)

WEBSDAY
February 24
Moon in Cancer/Leo
Void of Course Moon enters Leo at 4:23 am

Today's cosmic forecast calls for struggle with a strong possibility for inspiration and adventure. It's hard to sugarcoat the challenging energy as the Moon in peace-loving Taurus is sequentially prodded, poked, and provoked by conflicting squares to those many planets in eccentric Aquarius. Midmorning as the Moon approaches a liberating and exhilarating meet-up with revolutionary Uranus we are ready to take a leap of faith. We want to take a risk; although some will be motivated by a sense of adventure and others by fear of the past or dread of the future. I'd suggest you focus on adventure.

Throughout the day and evening we'll meet emotional challenges as the Moon squares obstinate Saturn this morning, disagrees with Mercury this evening, and feels deflated by Jupiter late night. Consider that like a gardener, if you want to eventually savor the delicious juiciness of homegrown tomatoes, first you need to put in the effort of hard work and stare down a few obstacles like uncooperative weather, a pop-up hail storm and a few pests. A few delays don't have the power to thwart our success if we keep our focus on the goal and not the problems. It's nothing we can't handle!

These lunar struggles are just part of the picture and may collectively feel like an emotional barometer measuring a more potent cosmic pattern. Today Saturn in Aquarius makes the first of three squares with Uranus in Taurus. (There are repeat performances scheduled for June 14 and December 24). It's hard to make light of this struggle between two powerful cosmic players. Expect some level of disruption but try to keep an open mind. Breakdowns often lead to Breakthroughs. To quote a famous quip, "to make an omelet, you need to break a few eggs.” Today's commotion and distractions are part of a process. Don't get fooled into believing this is the end of the process. It's not. The story has many more chapters yet to be written.

Daily Muse: We often hear about how we need to be more tolerant: to make room for people, ideas, and actions with which we may not agree. This is a prerequisite for a functional democracy. But tolerance alone is not sufficient; it allows us to accept others without engaging with them, to feel smug and self-satisfied without challenging the boundaries within which too many of us live - Patriotism-active, constructive patriotism-takes work. It takes knowledge, engagement with those who are different from you, and fairness in law and opportunity. It takes coming together for good causes. This is one of the things I cherish most about the United States: We are a nation not only of dreamers, but also of fixers. We have looked at our land and people, and said, time and time again, "This is not good enough; we can be better." (Dan Rather - Saturn square Uranus and opposing Pluto "What Unites Us: Reflections on Patriotism”)

THURSDAY
February 25
Moon in Leo
Venus Enters Pisces 5:11am

Early this morning Venus is looking to balance the cosmic scales, as she leaves team Aquarius to join team Pisces. For those who love Aquarius, no worries. Mercury is still in this progressive sign as are Jupiter and Saturn. The latter two are not going anywhere soon!

Venus in intuitive and imaginative Pisces is known for her artistry, creativity, and sensitivity. She is looking for, even demanding, a soul connection and spiritual union that transcend material limitations and boundaries. It's a lot to live up to on planet earth!

This balancing act will require tearing down, releasing, assessment and rebuilding. The goal will be to strengthen our relationships and infuse our lives with more creativity and spirituality.

Venus sets the stage this morning, and the Moon in Leo easily picks up the theme as it moves into an opposition with Jupiter in Aquarius. If a loved one has not been giving us the attention we believe we deserve or has not been faithful to our joint agreements, watch for some fireworks. We might be taking a stand today and letting people know we are not letting them bulldoze over us.

In early afternoon the Sun in Pisces makes a very helpful and productive connection to Uranus in Taurus. Piscean imagination and dreams need the structure Taurus can provide, even if it is an organizational style that is untraditional in nature. The Sun sextile Uranus is a powerful tool for identifying ways we are limiting or sabotaging ourselves and finding innovative ways to move beyond these restrictions. We are singing our own song today and enjoying our performance! We can be particularly insightful and aware that it's not others who are holding us back.

Daily Muse: People say that what we're all seeking is a meaning for life. I don't think that's what we're really seeking. I think that what we're seeking is an experience of being alive, so that our life experiences on the purely physical plane will have resonances with our own innermost being and reality, so that we actually feel the rapture of being alive. (Joseph Campbell – Venus in Pisces)

FRIDAY
February 26
Moon in Leo/Virgo
Moon Goes Void of Course at 3:32am enters Virgo 9:07am

The Moon enters Virgo this morning and she is likely carrying a broom or coming in with a contractor, plumber, or other expert. She is ready to do some cleanup! Virgo swings between the need for solitude and the need to be of service. Today, she's in the mood to be useful. As soon as she has chosen a project (could be a person!) she is temporarily distracted by an opposition to Venus which just yesterday moved into Virgo's opposite sign of Pisces. Don't dismiss this emotional rub as it can alert us to the fact our enthusiasm may be rubbing someone else the wrong way.

Analytical Virgo has faith in her ability to assess a situation and know what to do. If we lose sight of the fact our way may not be the vision others have, our attempt to be useful could backfire or at least get messy. Our “helpful” suggestions might come off like criticisms. Under a Virgo Moon we truly can be altruistic and supportive to others. We need to be aware of others' desires and feelings and our own too!

I can think of dozens of examples of how someone's assistance can seem invasive and unkind. The analogy that comes to mind is the idea of a mid-wife. Sometimes we are the experts (or require one) but the balance is delicate. The mid-wife cannot take credit for the birth. During the process the mid-wife/expert needs to assist without meddling and then step back when the job is done. Can we offer someone advice without making them wrong? Obviously the answer is yes, when we are conscious of our strengths and willing to admit ours is not the only way.

We likely grow more flexible throughout the day as the Moon moves towards a positive aspect with innovative Uranus tonight.

Technically the Moon is Full in Virgo at 12:17 am (Pacific Time) Saturday morning, but don't miss this opportunity to bask in the Moonlight and set your monthly intentions before calling it a day.

Daily Muse: The inventor...looks upon the world and is not contented with things as they are. He wants to improve whatever he sees, he wants to benefit the world; he is haunted by an idea. (Alexander Graham Bell – Sun in Pisces with Moon in Virgo)

SATURDAY
February 27
Moon in Virgo
Full Moon 9º Virgo 12:17 am

The Full Moon in analytical Virgo lit up the night, but the lingering influences are still here for us to muse over today. The continuum that is the Sun in perceptive and intuitive Pisces opposing the Moon in logical and systematic Virgo is a tale of knowing how to blend these two sides of our brains and how to honor these disparate but collaborating sides of our nature. Zodiac signs on opposite sides of the cosmos are not enemies but productive collaborators. Witness the brilliance of the receptive Full Moon receiving and reflecting the light of the Sun!

We humans tend to separate and make a big deal about perceived differences when we could be enjoying how each is an interesting and productive contributor to the big picture. Honoring both our cognitive logical minds and our imaginations and intuition help create wholeness. Nothing is excluded or judged.

This Full Moon encourages us to guard against intellectual hubris (one of my favorite concepts – I must resonate with it!!!!). Think about the overconfidence and pride of Icarus who flew too close to the sun with his wax and feather wings. The flip side of every virtue is vice. There is critical mass at which we are no longer elevating and start sliding downwards. So too, there is a delicate balance between the intellectual and organizational strength of Virgo and the nebulous, unstructured imagination of Pisces.

During this Full Moon, the Moon is also in that dicey, somewhat unpredictable inconjunct aspect to Saturn in Aquarius. If there is anyone who might understand intellectual pride it’s this guy! And the Moon is only one degree past an inconjunct with Chiron in willful Aries. I see a theme emerging here. Part of the saving grace is the Moon is in a productive trine to Uranus in Taurus – there are unusual or unpredictable parts of the story that will prove enlightening. Obstinately close your mind or hold too tightly to what you think you know, and you might miss out on a revelation.

Like many Full Moons this one contains magic.

The energy of the Full Moon is the major influence of the day with the only other lunar aspect occurring this evening when the Moon opposes Neptune (Pisces ruling planet) in Pisces. This is an echo of the Sun’s opposition with the Moon. There is something to learn, to receive and to give.

Daily Muse: A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty. (Albert Einstein - Sun in Pisces)

SAUNDAY
February 28
Moon in Virgo/Libra
Moon goes Void of Course at 7:58am, enters Libra at 11:17am

We might awaken earlier than expected this morning with the industrious Virgo Moon connecting with Pluto in the last hours of the night and then with energetic Mars. Listen for revelations in your dreams as Pluto might prove transformative in this pre-dawn time-frame. The lunar Mars connection is energizing, nudging us awake or away from our leisurely morning rituals.

The Moon is void of course, but only for a couple of hours mid morning before entering artistic Libra. Again our hearts are prodded toward the Full Moon theme of recognizing our interconnectedness. Despite attempts to go it alone, there are multiple cosmic cues pointing us in the direction of partnership – personal and professional. This is not to be confused with lack of independence. Think more along the lines of being a valuable member of a community. We find our place and fulfill an important function that serves a societal purpose and is personally fulfilling.

Some may dream of or aspire to total independence or “living off the grid” but for most that is not really a desirable or feasible goal. The pros and cons of independence verses living within a family and community should be carefully considered at this time.

Daily Muse: I do my best because I’m counting on you counting on me. (Maya Angelou – Full Moon in Libra)
