The Week Ahead
Monday, March 15 thru Sunday, March 21
Astrological Highlights for the week: Happy Birthday Aries!
Astrological Highlights for the week: Mercury enters Pisces on Monday; Spring Equinox – Sun enters Aries on Saturday; Venus enters fiery Aries on Sunday
Happy Birthday Aries; and Happy New Year to all of us. The Spring Equinox occurring early Saturday morning (2:37 am Pacific Time), is the beginning of the Astrological Year. The Sun in Aries cycle is a time of movement and new beginnings. Spring is a time of waking up from the cold and more deliberate pace of winter. The courageous and pioneering spirit of Aries is necessary to break the spell and initiate new cycles and growth. It takes daring and spirit for seeds and plants to break through the frozen crust of the earth to seek out the light and revitalize themselves.
Aries is an individual – headstrong, energetic, and motivated. Mars is the planetary ruler and for the most part, only recognizes one speed (fast) and one direction – forward. Looking at the potential and qualities of specific cycles we can learn much from the current placement of Mars in Gemini – the sign of the twins. This is a clue this Aries cycle may not be characterized by one major focus or objective. While it’s a great idea for us as individuals to not lose sight of our goals and principles this may not be the time to pursue them with a single-minded focus. With Mars in Mercury-ruled Gemini, communication is a key element to our eventual success.
Listening to others and paying attention to the signs helps us adjust our strategies and timelines. There is more than one way to reach our objectives and flexibility is our friend. Rather than relying on forceful convincing arguments, we may have more influence over others and our outcomes by using subtle strategies and methods. One sign to heed is Pluto in Capricorn. This is formidable energy that can thwart the efforts of Aries, or at least give us pause to consider some alternatives. Jupiter and Saturn in mental and visionary Aquarius is a friend to Aries offering hope along with unique ideas for how to make successful adaptations and adjustments at this time.
While we look forward to and appreciate the youthful zeal of Aries, in 2021 we will do well to resist the urge to see competitors and opportunities to fight and overcome. There is a saying that if your only tool is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. This year, with Mars in versatile Gemini, we have a toolbox full of possibilities including a variety of communication devices at our disposal. Let’s use them.
And speaking of communication, Mercury the messenger planet makes a move into sensitive, intuitive, and imaginative Pisces on Monday. Communication under this influence includes a wide range of non-verbal forms. This is the sign of dreamers. Imagination, fantasies, and feelings are more important than facts. Attending to day-to-day details like paying bills, or even sleeping and eating can be lost in the maze of the mind preoccupied with the rhythm of a song, or how colored pens look so amazing lined up next to each other.
During this three-week cycle, we may find our minds drifting off during a conversation or when we are supposed to be paying attention. Look at the way the Sun reflects off that windshield; does that cloud formation look like a message to you? Expect to have greater access to intuition, imagination, and creative inspiration. If animals, insects, trees, and snowflakes are speaking to you, don’t be surprised. It’s all part of the Pisces magic.
The week wraps on another cosmic change. Sunday Venus enters fiery Aries. This girl knows what she wants; at least she thinks she does. She’s not much for traditionally feminine roles or behavior and prefers instead to go after what she wants directly and assertively. Why waste time with pretense? Venus in Aries is independent and prefers to dominate in relationships. In fact, peaceful contentment is likely to be considered boring! Under her influence, we like a challenge and competition whets our appetite and stirs our passions. Venus in Aries does love, romance, and life on her own terms. Think Lady Gaga, Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe, Audrey and Katharine Hepburn, and Jack Nicholson all born with Venus in Aries.
The dawning of Spring this week brings new initiations and energy. Our hearts also are turned in some new directions with Venus following the Sun into energetic and independent Aries. Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius will continue to light up new visions, while Pluto in Capricorn and Neptune in Pisces encourages us to not forget the important work and transformations still underway that will continue to build and manifest over time.
Until next week, let go and wear loose clothes.
MONDAY
March 15
Moon in Aries
Mercury enters Pisces 3:26pm
The Moon goes Void of Course 8:40pm
The Aries Moon is vocal and filled with conviction this morning thanks to an uplifting connection to expansive Jupiter. I’m not really a fan of the saying, “Be careful what you wish for.” However, I’m leaning into it this morning as the spontaneity of the Aries Moon might be pushing for something without really checking it out first. We might be rather childish in demanding to get our way about something only to find out there was something better available if we had been patient. The youthful Aries Moon is endearing in its faith and innocence; but somewhat inexperienced and naïve. No serious issues here.
Mid-afternoon Mercury the planet of thinking and communication dives into emotional and sensitive Pisces. Are you up for learning about or testing your skills at non-verbal communication? This is the sign of dreamers. Imagination, fantasies, and feelings are more important than facts. Attending to day-to-day details like paying bills, or even sleeping and eating can be lost in the maze of the mind preoccupied with the rhythm of a song, or how colored pens look so amazing lined up next to each other. During this three-week cycle we may find our minds drifting off during a conversation or when we are supposed to be paying attention. Look at the way the Sun reflects off that windshield; does that cloud formation look like a message to you? Expect to have greater access to intuition, imagination, and creative inspiration. If animals, insects, trees and snowflakes are speaking to you, don’t be surprised. It’s all part of the Pisces magic.
Tonight the headstrong Aries Moon bumps up against an immovable object - Pluto in Capricorn. This can bring out the control freak in even the most mild-mannered individual so be aware. If you aren’t getting your way about something consider it possibly divine intervention! It’s possible.
Daily Muse: Your creativity has value. You’re not wasting your time dreaming. (Ron Howard – Mercury conjunct Sun in Pisces)
TUESDAY
March 16
Moon in Aries/Taurus
?The Void of Course Moon enters Taurus at 3:56am
The Moon softly slips into peaceful Taurus long before the Sun rises. Even with a harmonizing connection to communicative Mercury at daybreak, conversations may be brief or non-existent. The sensuous nature of Taurus combined with the non-verbal ways of Mercury in Pisces set a tone for quiet and simplicity. If people don’t want to honor this cosmic imperative, we might find ourselves sneaking away with our cup of tea, headphones, or a journal to an isolated spot for some alone time. Communing with nature feels right and a few intentional moments set the right tone for the day.
When the Sun connects with Pluto mid-day the need for quiet agreement and acceptance is preferable to fighting over inconsequential matters. Generally we are not interested in making things more complicated or intense; although, this is not an invitation to a defeatist attitude. If something needs to be addressed, the solar link to Pluto will give us the clarity and will power to say and do what needs to be done. If you have a task that requires focus and concentration, this is a good day to put it on your calendar.
Tonight we feel livelier when Luna joins revolutionary Uranus. This may be the most excited we have been all day. A quiet day turns into a stimulating evening. We may jump into a creative project or experience an energetic high that keeps us awake long into the night.
Daily Muse: In times of great stress or adversity, it’s always best to keep busy, to plow your anger and your energy into something positive. (Lee Iacocca – Moon in Taurus)
WENSDAY
March 17
Moon in Taurus
St. Patrick's Day
We are operating on our own steam today with the Taurus Moon making no aspects during daylight hours. As Mars in Gemini wakes up Chiron in Aries we realize the only one holding us back is our self. Just as a person looks out on a piece of land and sees a garden, we use our imaginations to envision how we can cultivate our strengths and assets. We see possibilities and potentials; and also appreciate the effort necessary to turn ideas into manifestation.
This evening our visions turn into fantasies as the Moon squares Jupiter. We may be a bit over the top, but then again, better to think big and scale back if necessary, than to let fear dictate the limits of our dreams. As evening turns into night we surrender to our desire for sleep and dreams as the Moon connects with Neptune and anything seems possible. Night owls enjoy a nightcap, soak in a bubble bath or hot tub, or an escape with a movie.
Daily Muse: The creation of something new is not accomplished by the intellect but by the play instinct acting from inner necessity. The creative mind plays with the objects it loves. (Carl Gustav Jung – Moon, Neptune and Pluto in Taurus)
THURSDAY
March 18
Moon in Taurus/Gemini
The Moon goes Void of Course 1:40 pm enters Gemini 4:47pm
We feel creative and inspired as the Moon in practical Taurus makes connections to both Venus in Pisces and Pluto in Capricorn. This energy is a forerunner of the more powerful connection between Venus and Pluto mid-morning. Overall this is a resourceful time when we can envision possibilities and find new and ingenious ways to combine assets and resources. It's good energy for relationships as well with partners taking personal responsibility. It's easier to attain an equitable balance of giving and receiving. Mentors can be a big help and useful information should be readily available today.
Mid-afternoon the flow continues as the Moon aligns with the Sun in Pisces before moving into a void of course pattern until late afternoon. These few hours can be useful for planning and strategizing. Early evening, the Moon heads for chatty Gemini and we look forward to interaction and maybe a social activity. This Moon is witty, charming, playful, and a bit mischievous. With Mercury in sensitive Pisces, don't overlook the non-verbal messages that are likely flying through any gathering.
Daily Muse: There's more to life than being a passenger. (Amelia Earhart – Moon in Gemini along with Venus Neptune and Pluto)
FRIDAY
March 19
Moon in Gemini
The Moon in Gemini wants to be intellectually stimulated, but making noise just for the sake of avoiding awkward pauses doesn't serve a useful purpose. In the early morning hours the Moon squares Mercury (ruler of Gemini) in the intuitive sign of Pisces. Even though this is easy to miss or ignore in the dark of pre-dawn, it could be an important message to guide our day.
The Moon joins active Mars in Gemini mid-day and then trines Saturn in Aquarius a bit later. The Mars connection encourages a flurry of frantic chatter or forceful communications while Saturn asks, "What's the purpose?" To be at our intellectual best we need to balance thought with stillness. In the midst of chaos or worry, one of our best acts is to take a break and get more sleep, giving our restless minds the opportunity to relax and recuperate. Through this mental vacation our minds have the chance to access the subconscious self and work through ideas in a less rational, but more creative way.
Focus on stillness today especially if you find yourself going in multiple directions, feeling frantic, or unable to turn off a restless mind. Taking a nap we may find the solution or idea we are seeking floats into our consciousness effortlessly.
Daily Muse: Dreams are the royal road to the unconscious. (Sigmund Freud – Moon in Gemini)
SATURDAY
March 20
Moon in Gemini
Spring Equinox -
Sun enters Aries 2:37am
International Astrology Day
Happy Birthday, Aries! The Spring Equinox occurs early – 2:37 am (Pacific Time). Astrologically speaking, this is also the beginning of the Astrological Year with Aries being the first sign of the zodiac. The Sun in Aries cycle is a time of movement and new beginnings. Spring is a time of waking up from the cold and more deliberate pace of winter. The courageous and pioneering spirit of Aries is required to break the spell and initiate new cycles and growth. It takes daring and spirit for seeds and plants to break through the frozen crust of the earth to seek out the light and revitalize themselves.
Aries is an individual – headstrong, energetic, and motivated – qualities it inherits from Mars, its planetary ruler. The Sun in Aries cycle in 2021 will be influenced by the current placement of Mars in Gemini – the sign of the twins. Instead of a single-minded focus, we realize there is more than one path to our goals. There will also be an emphasis on communication. Despite Aries preference for being first, and the Lone-Ranger, success depends in part, on cooperation and collaborative efforts.
As we jump into the new season today excitement builds with the Moon in Gemini connecting with hopeful Jupiter in visionary Aquarius. Possibilities seem endless! Our ability to communicate our ideas may get temporarily derailed as the Moon squares dreamy Neptune. This is a good time to practice your intuition and listen for the non-verbal messages and cues. There is more than is being said in words. Resist taking people literally or using manipulation or trickery to influence. Listen with your ears and your heart.
Daily Muse: The next message you need is always right where you are.
(Ram Dass – Sun in Aries conjunct Uranus and North Node of the Moon)
SUNDAY
March 21
Moon in Gemini/Cancer
Venus enters Aries 7:16am
?The Moon goes Void of Course at 5:04am enters Cancer at 5:18am
Be prepared to be surprised today. We may have lots of pre-conceived ideas about our plans or how the day will unfold, but an abundance of planetary activity would suggest otherwise. Early this morning the overall mood changes when the Moon heads home to sensitive Cancer. With the Sun in energetic Aries we are ready to roll, but the Moon is craving some domestic time. We are not "feeling the love" as the Sun and Moon square each other this morning.
And then along comes Venus charging into fiery Aries. This girl knows what she wants, at least she thinks she does. She's not much for traditional feminine roles or behavior and prefers instead to go after what she wants directly and assertively. Why waste time with pretense? Venus in Aries is independent and prefers to dominate in relationships. In fact, peaceful contentment is likely to be considered boring! Under her influence we like a challenge and competition whets our appetite. As you can imagine, the Moon in nurturing and faithful Cancer is not impressed! As the day unfolds we may be feeling even more abused or misunderstood.
But there is more to come. In the late afternoon Mercury in Pisces makes a connection to Uranus in devoted Taurus. This is a chance to open to new ideas and experiences with less defensiveness. Rational arguments are less persuasive than other more gentle forms of communication. Instead of texting, consider sending a link to a song, picture, or piece of music that communicates your feelings on a heart level.
Tonight we feel energized by a fortifying alliance between Mars and Saturn. This energy is directed and on purpose, wasting no time on distractions or detours. If we are feeling a bit low or unmotivated by a Moon in Cancer that would prefer to hide away, this energy inspires action by putting us in touch with purposes that resonate with our souls. With the Moon also being encouraged by connections to Uranus and Mercury tonight, we are able to turn away from our own issues or disappointments. We see opportunities especially in relating to others. Whether we are simply sharing our experiences, empathizing with others, or offering companionship or advice, we feel more satisfied and purposeful when we put ourselves out there and interact with others.
Daily Muse: Some women choose to follow men, and some women choose to follow their dreams. If you're wondering which way to go, remember that your career will never wake up and tell you that it doesn't love you anymore. (Lady Gaga - Sun and Venus in Aries, Moon in Scorpio, Mars in Capricorn)
