The Week Ahead

Monday, June 14 thru Sunday, June 20

Astrological Highlights for the week: Saturn reignites an ongoing challenge with Uranus on Monday; Summer Solstice - Sun enters Cancer on Sunday evening and Jupiter begins a lengthy retrograde pattern

Happy Birthday Cancer!

This week is bookended with important events. Next Sunday is the Summer Solstice with the Sun entering Cancer and Jupiter begins a four-month retrograde that will take it out of Pisces and back into Aquarius. We are going deep with the planet of expansion examining in greater detail what gives meaning to our lives.

The week starts out with the Moon in playful Leo; but no amount of clowning around will distract us from a significant cosmic drama taking place between disciplined Saturn in Aquarius and eccentric Uranus in Taurus. Their perfect square on Monday is Act Two in a three-act play that started on February 17th. Both are in tenacious and persevering Fixed signs which increases the tension when they clash.

For inquiring minds, here is how it breaks down. (Please feel free to skip the next two paragraphs and jump to the interpretation.) These are both relatively slow-moving planets. Not literally slow; they are far enough from the Sun, that it takes them a long time to make a complete orbit around it. Saturn transits through a zodiac sign in about 2 ½ years and Uranus spends approximately 7 years in each sign. Because of retrograde motion, it’s typical that two planets will create a particular aspect (angle) not just once, but three times during a period when they are in compatible, opposing, or conflicting signs. Even when the angles are not mathematically perfect, we still tend to be under the influence until the three interactions are complete, which describes most of 2021 when it comes to Saturn squaring Uranus.

Saturn is the organized, structured and patient planet expressing through Aquarius, the most eccentric and rebellious of signs. Uranus – the ruler of Aquarius and the James Dean Rebel of the zodiac – is currently transiting through Taurus which is steadfast, deliberate and reliable. Already, you can see a few potential issues here. In 2021 Saturn the rule maker and Uranus the rule breaker are in a perfect 90 degree angle with each other three times. Astrological squares create challenges and the need for give and take, like for example, cars at a four-way stop.

This translates into situations and interactions where people feel both authoritarian and revolutionary – two ideas that don’t easily produce happy endings. But just because it is not easy, doesn’t mean it can’t happen. We are attached to and have respect for traditions and the ways of the past while we also want to be radical and progressive. Although we might want approval and support for our behavior and ideas we don’t need to have it and may even resent that we care about it at all. What’s wrong with all these people that don’t see life the way I do? On an individual level, we want to have the freedom to break all the rules while also believing everyone else should abide by them. Hypocrisy is rampant, and that is putting it mildly!

The silver lining is the creativity and ingenuity that results in the combustion of these two energies mixing it up. Instinct and intuition along with the audacity to think and act out of the ordinary could lead to brilliant discoveries. Consider Victorian writer, Mary Ann Evans who adopted the pen name George Eliot in order to escape what she perceived to be the biases and limitations of women writers of her time; or philosopher, journalist, and socialist revolutionary Karl Marx. Both were born with Saturn square Uranus. Harvey Milk, politician and first openly gay elected official in California, and comedian Roseann Barr are also examples of people born with this square in their natal charts. Conforming is not an attribute of Saturn square Uranus, whether we are born under it’s influence or living under its shadow, or close to the periphery which is a factor in 2021. Act Three of this stimulating production is scheduled for December 24th. Get your tickets now. Oh wait, you already have front row seats!

At the end of the week, we look forward to the initiation of the Summer Season. The Sun enters Cancer on the Summer Solstice (Northern Hemisphere) on Sunday evening, June 20th. This may be the sign of mother, home, and family but all things considered, the Sun’s transit through Cancer is not likely to be a time of tranquility and domestic stability and bliss. However, it’s probably an illusion that it ever is.

It is a time to take responsibility, to nurture ourselves and others, and to ponder deeply about the real meanings of family, home, community, dedication, loyalty, inclusion, exclusion, inter-dependency, and trust. With Jupiter starting a retrograde the same day as the Solstice, we know this will be a season of meaningful pondering and self-evaluation about what matters most.

Until next week, let go and wear loose clothes.

MONDAY
June 14
Moon in Leo

The Moon in Leo is feeling playful today but no amount of clowning around will distract us from a significant cosmic drama taking place between disciplined Saturn in Aquarius and eccentric Uranus in Taurus. This is Part Two in a three-part series that started on February 17th. Both are in tenacious and persevering Fixed signs which only increases the tension when they clash. This is an ongoing thread running through 2021 which wraps on December 24th when the two planets make a third and final square. (If you want the detailed breakdown, please read the introduction to this column.)

The long and the short of it for today is we acutely feel the duality of wanting to honor the traditions of the past while yearning for a future that is better. We want to be the judge when it comes to rules, and most likely we’ll decide we are above them, or they don’t apply to us. That won’t make us any less judgmental when it comes to others bending or breaking the rules. We’ll be all over them like jelly on peanut butter.

There are at least two silver linings. First, this interaction like many challenging cosmic struggles can be creative and lead to innovation. The second is the opportunity to look at ourselves more clearly and with greater objectivity. What is the source of our specialness? Why do the rules not apply to me? Why do we think it is ok to let things slide or act dishonestly while thinking everyone else should live a life of integrity? How do these feelings of being better or different than others lead to feelings of separation, loneliness, or generally make our relationships more difficult and less satisfying?

This energy can also help us gain greater clarity on the values that are most important to us. What things are worth pursuing or standing up for even if we endanger or lose the approval of others? How do we balance our own authority with the power of people we love, respect, or admire? How do we walk the fine line between independence and belonging?

We can choose to side-step the self-analysis but the discomfort is likely to be front and center with the Moon in Leo squaring Uranus mid-day and literally a minute later opposing Saturn. This is the warm-up act for today’s main event.

There is also something brewing in another part of the cosmos as Mars in willful Leo forms an uncomfortable inconjunct with Jupiter in Pisces. It’s hard to escape judging ourselves as selfish or uncaring, but this won’t necessarily stop us from following through with a particular action. Understanding this dilemma may help us carefully consider whether we really are stepping out-of-bounds or maybe we are just guilt-tripping ourselves for no good reason.

Expect that it might be difficult to feel peace today over decisions and actions that are fraught with multiple dimensions. Win-win situations may be hard to achieve. I am reminded of a recent conversation with a friend who along with family members decided to take the car keys away from an elderly mother with increasing dementia and other physical problems. The decision was the right one, but mom is mad as hell and feeling betrayed by her family. We have probably all been there in one situation or another. This may be one of those days when even making a wise decision does not necessarily feel good.

Daily Muse: The philosophers have only interpreted the world, in various ways. The point, however, is to change it. (Karl Marx – Saturn in Pisces square Uranus in Sagittarius)

TUESDAY
June 15
Moon in Leo/Virgo

The Moon goes Void of Course at 10:27am and enters Virgo at 8:02pm
Emotionally and psychologically, we are probably still feeing the sting of yesterday’s chaffing aspects. This could be a good thing; it means we are alive and willing to look beyond the surface. The Moon in Leo is doing its best to deflect the seriousness and help us regain our sense of humor. A positive lunar connection with the Sun in social Gemini this morning is a good start.

With the moon void-of-course from mid-morning through late evening, why not take some time off, or at least lighten things up? It’s ok and even desirable to be more vulnerable; roll over and expose your belly. Maybe we’ll get that affectionate rub we are looking for. We don’t always have to be geared up for a fight or debate – even though we often find them highly stimulating! Take a risk and be authentically vulnerable with a friend or loved one. Lay down your defenses and maybe they will too. Admit where you are feeling afraid or not up to speed. Chances are they will take this as an opening to let down their guard as well. There is a child-like quality to the Leo Moon which can help restore our faith and sense of innocence.

Tonight, the Moon enters Virgo, a sign that loves her solitude. She is also a list-maker and hard worker. If possible, tuck yourself into bed early to avoid a sense of confusion or overwhelm which might drift in just after midnight (Pacific Time) when the Virgo Moon opposes expansive Jupiter in Pisces.

Daily Muse: It is a narrow mind which cannot look at a subject from various points of view. (George Eliot – Saturn in Pisces square Neptune in Sagittarius)

WENSDAY
June 16
Moon in Virgo

Although the midnight (Pacific Time) lunar opposition with Jupiter in illusionary Pisces should have dissipated long before dawn, a sense of confusion may yet hang over the day. There are no other lunar connections until late evening which leaves us adrift between the pragmatic concerns of Virgo and the dreamy imagination of Pisces. Although I am reticent to ever disparage the fertile creativity of Pisces, I know full well how easy it is to get caught in a web or story line that feels so real but turns out to be a trip into a rabbit hole.

A few astrological factors may be contributing to this phenomenon today including Mercury the thinker being retrograde and still under the spell of a confusing square to Neptune in Pisces. The Sun in Gemini is coming into a quirky and uncomfortable inconjunct with Pluto in Capricorn today. Transformation is taking place and it doesn’t conform to our preconceived ideas about how change should work.

I recently had the opportunity to experience an interactive art display called Omega Mart which is an exhibition by Meow Wolf. (Don’t ask me about the name, I have no idea what it means. LOL!) In one large space the walls were filled with a variety of shapes and objects and snaking throughout the center of the floor was a translucent stream. A projector continuously flooded the room with images and colors – some seemed to be telling stories, others seemed unconnected. Although the floor was perfectly flat, almost every person stepped over the translucent stream or at least tentatively tested it out before walking on it. It was next to impossible for them to ignore their physical eyes telling them the stream was lower than the floor and in motion. At one point I was also startled to see a huge snake slithering across the floor and close to my feet. I instinctively shifted away from it, although my mind was telling me it was nothing more than a projection. It seemed pretty real to me!

The pieces on the chessboard are in flux today and we don’t have control over the players and the action. We may be so attached to an idea or perception we will see it as the truth no matter how much evidence there is to the contrary. Our passion and even our five physical senses might blind us to the fact we are replacing the truth with a desire or wish leading us to act foolishly or take unnecessary risks. The intensity of our desire for something or someone to be a certain way has little to no effect on the truth. If we can accept our minds and hearts are powerful lenses through which we see and interpret the world and our experiences, we can begin to live more peacefully and negotiate changing circumstances with grace.

Tonight, although the Moon is still in practical and analytical Virgo, we are willing to accept some new and alternative realities as it aligns with eccentric and unpredictable Uranus. Maybe a new teacher or mentor can help open some doors for us.

Daily Muse: I wasn't naturally gifted in terms of size and speed; everything I did in hockey I worked for… I skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been. (Wayne Gretzky Sun in Aquarius inconjunct Pluto in Virgo)

THURSDAY
June 17
Moon in Virgo
The Moon goes Void of Course at 8:54pm

The Moon in Virgo sets a positive and determined tone this morning. We may favor working with others rather than alone as the Moon slides into a kinship relationship with Venus in Cancer. If someone is willing to teach or demonstrate something we want to learn, we are on board with the lesson. Hard-working Virgo desires mastery and will persevere in perfecting whatever knowledge, skills and abilities attract her. This is a great morning for working with a mentor, teacher, guide, or advisor.

We may start to lose some of our focus in mid-afternoon when Luna opposes Neptune in Pisces which favors going with the flow instead of sticking to a pre-ordained plan. If you can build in a break or flexibility this afternoon that should help take advantage of this imaginative but boundaryless energy. Let your intuition lead the way.

Tonight, the Moon’s alliance with Pluto helps us bounce back from any disappointments turning them into opportunities. Knowing we can’t make a mistake when it comes to our destiny, we are willing to take calculated risks with our hearts and with our work. In late evening when the Moon squares the Sun in Gemini the first quarter of the lunar cycle closes and it may seem a path does also. This leaves our remaining choices clear and it will be to our benefit to move forward rather than trying to revisit or change the past.

Daily Muse: When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us. (Alexander Graham Bell – Moon in Virgo)

FRIDAY
June 18
Moon in Virgo/Libra
The Void of Course Moon enters Libra at 1:54 am

Although the Moon slides into partnership-oriented Libra in the early morning hours, this energy may not be as diplomatic or agreeable as we want it to be. The Quarter Moon in Libra aligning with Mars in self-expressive Leo mid-morning is more centered on personal and individual goals than shared ones. If your ideas, desires, and plans for the day coincide with mine, then we can make beautiful music together. But if you are asking me to put your goals ahead of mine, well, hmmmm, probably not going to happen; at least not today. I am not in a sacrificing mood!

This is a temporary energy but important to understand. A friend wanting to go to the latest blockbuster movie release may be more interested in the movie than in spending time with you. That’s really ok, as long as you both realize the priority. When you suggest going out to lunch instead and they say ‘No”, they are not necessarily dissing you; they just really want to see the movie! No doubt, they will love to go to lunch with you another time. Try not to make something out of nothing.

Today focus on your own goals and desires taking full responsibility for their manifestation. If you find a companion or ally along the way, great. If not, don’t judge others for not being in the same head, heart, or physical space as you are.

Daily Muse: If you live in an oppressive society, you've got to be resilient. You can't let each little thing crush you. You have to take every encounter and make yourself larger, rather than allow yourself to be diminished by it. (James Earl Jones – Mars in Leo with Sun, Moon, Mercury and Saturn in Capricorn)

SATURDAY
June 19
Moon in Libra

We are feeling susceptible and a little exposed today with the Moon in Libra opposing Chiron, the Wounded Healer, in Aries, squaring Venus in Cancer, and squaring Pluto in Capricorn tonight. In truth the day doesn’t start off so badly; the Moon is sending retrograding Mercury some love early this morning. But the sense of camaraderie wears thin as these other lunar aspects develop throughout the day and evening.

This is likely a day when our inner demons and fears are close to the surface of our consciousness. If we are not prepared to face and challenge them we end up projecting them onto others – making other people responsible for our feelings and perceived frailties. We have been down this road before, too many times. Solution - don’t give your power away by surrendering to feelings of helplessness. Try to avoid covering feelings of insecurity with denial, bullying others, manipulation, or domination. And don’t forget the best trick of all – remembering if you created these beliefs and feelings, you can also create something else!

Instead of blaming others, we might be judging ourselves too harshly. If you are feeling the negative effects of bad or dysfunctional habits and routines, try to see the cause-and-effect relationship. Don’t beat yourself up; that’s a waste of your time and energy. Change the habit or routine.

Daily Muse: It is never too late to be what you might have been. (George Eliot – Mars in Leo; Saturn in Pisces square Uranus and Neptune in Sagittarius)

SUNDAY
June 20
Moon in Libra/Scorpio
The Moon goes Void of Course 3:52 am enters Scorpio at 4:58 am
Jupiter moves Retrograde 8:06 am
Summer Solstice 8:32 pm

Fathers Day
By the time most of us awake, the Moon has quietly entered introspective Scorpio. This deep-feeling sign is not particularly hard to figure out. When emotions run this deeply their intensity can be felt by even the most insensitive of us. We may not understand the rumble in the background and the shaking ground, but we get it! Something is happening. Luna’s first alignment in Scorpio is with Jupiter which is at a standstill since early this morning. Jupiter is looking inward preparing for a four-month retrograde pattern which will take it back into Aquarius. As the planet of expansion, Jupiter’s retrograde asks us to consider what gives our lives meaning. All expansion is not growth; all increase is not necessarily positive. With Jupiter in Pisces we are looking for meaning beyond physical form and the pleasures and disappointments of our physical lives.

Mid-afternoon the Moon squares Mars in willful Leo. Once again we are looking at the discrepancy between what we think we want and what satisfies and thrills us.

The Day may be called Father’s Day but the cosmos is more aligned with the qualities of mother. The Summer Solstice ushers in a new season as the Sun begins a new cycle in Cancer. As an assertive Cardinal sign, Cancer is a time to spin the wheel of fortune and choose where we want it to stop. This is the time to take the wheel and initiate the objectives and ideas we wish to manifest. Nurturing Cancer knows the importance of family and home and values stability, faithfulness, and the arts of domesticity. As a water sign, Cancer is sensitive, psychic, receptive, sympathetic, tender, and gentle. Well the last one is somewhat debatable. Have you ever seen a mama bear protecting her cubs? She’s gentle with them; ferocious with anyone who threatens their well-being.

Looking at other factors, the Sun’s transit through Cancer is not likely to be a time of tranquility and domestic stability and bliss. However, it’s probably an illusion that it ever is. It is a time to take responsibility, to nurture ourselves and others, and to ponder deeply about the real meanings of family, home, community, dedication, loyalty, inclusion, exclusion, inter-dependency, and trust.

Daily Muse: A leader. . .is like a shepherd. He stays behind the flock, letting the most nimble go out ahead, whereupon the others follow, not realizing that all along they are being directed from behind. (Nelson Mandela Sun, Jupiter and Pluto in Cancer)

The Week Ahead

Monday, June 21 thru Sunday, June 27

Astrological Highlights for the week: Mercury stations direct on Tuesday; Full Moon in Capricorn on Thursday; Neptune retrogrades on Friday; and Venus enters Leo on Saturday

For those of you counting the days, Mercury ends its retrograde motion on Tuesday this week. Don’t forget to take at least a moment to document or appreciate the insights received over the last couple of weeks. Neptune the planet of dreams, illusions, and imagination begins its lengthy annual retrograde on Friday. This is the planet of transcendence. When it turns inward our intuition, dreams, imagination, and creativity can deepen by leaps and bounds. Neptune is retrograde until December 1st.

A Full Moon on Thursday highlights the traits, needs, and desires of both the Moon in Capricorn and the Sun in Cancer. Although Moons in Capricorn can be a bit crusty – self sufficient, responsible and focused on commitments -- feelings tend to be more accessible and emotional expression more dramatic when it’s a Full Moon. Incorporating the strengths of both Cancer and Capricorn, we can embrace our roles as comforters, leaders, and disciplinarians with equal confidence. Callings to take charge and lead may present themselves, and we will do it with tenderness and purpose if we are listening.

Jupiter in Pisces makes harmonizing and strengthening connections with both the Moon and Sun on Thursday. Look for these influences. First, we are encouraged to look for self-confidence and strength through an inner connection to source. Capricorn’s need to be self-sufficient is hard-wired, but understanding we are never alone can be an empowering step on our path of self confidence and responsibility. Source never leaves us; we simply get distracted!

Jupiter’s presence may also intensify our desire to take responsibility and be leaders on a bigger stage. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself thinking more seriously about how your abilities, experience and skills can be put in service to your community, country, or the world. If you are thinking Jupiter is moving retrograde, this is true. It heads back into Aquarius the sign of social reform, progress, and humanitarian values on July 28th. So what was your point?

On Saturday night, in another part of the cosmos, Venus the planet of values, and the one we associate with love and money, partnership and finances leaves family-oriented Cancer and enters Leo. You know what this means, it’s “ME time”. It’s not that we are any less devoted to our partners or families, but we’re a bit fatigued with letting our personal needs take a backseat to those of others. We get in touch with our dreams and desires and elevate their prominence in our priorities. Forget the timidity and subtlety – let your colors fly. A new hairstyle, or dramatic outfit will be a good start.

Venus in Leo lives life with flair and panache. We are attracted to vibrancy and creativity becomes a lifestyle. Multiple fashion designers were inspired by Venus in Leo in their natal charts including Coco Channel and Yves St. Laurent.

Despite Venus in Leo being just a teensy bit vain and self-absorbed, they love to be in love and often adore and idolize their lovers and partners. Notice I said, “adore.” Nothing but the best for the King and Queen of the zodiac. Nothing short of worship is what their mates deserve. If you are lucky enough to attract the attention and heart of someone with Leo energy expect the royal treatment. And of course, be prepared to reciprocate. While Venus is in Leo you might want to up your game in the romance department. Don’t take your partner for granted; notice and celebrate their positive features, traits, and qualities. Some heart-felt expression of adoration will go a long way toward having them realize how truly valuable you are as a partner.

This is also a good time to dive into your creativity, be more expressive and did I mention play? This is the sign of children, authenticity, and playfulness. It’s time to enjoy life and approach it with a sense of wonder and curiosity. Make sure playtime has a place in your schedule while Venus is in Leo.

Until next week, let go and wear loose clothes.

MONDAY
June 21
Moon in Scorpio
The Moon goes Void of Course at 11:43pm

The Scorpio Moon may be leaning towards the dark side with a couple of cranky connections to Saturn and Uranus during the dark of night. However, the scales quickly balance and move towards a gentler more sympathetic outlook by dawn when Venus in sensitive Cancer aligns with spiritually aspiring Neptune in compassionate Pisces. This energy continues to build and diffuse throughout the day as the Moon in emotional Scorpio builds a bridge to both Venus and Neptune creating a powerful, albeit temporary, Grand Trine between the three intuitive and emotional water signs (Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces).

Scorpio Moons are times we are naturally drawn to look at our inner demons, but we are seeking understanding and acceptance not evidence of our victimhood. As the Moon continues its introspective journey it will connect with Pluto (ruler of Scorpio) this evening which in a comforting bit of synchronicity. This may provide the light we need to see an inner truth with courage. For what it is worth, this is the last day of Mercury’s inward retrograde motion. Make the most of it for seeing yourself in a new light.

Daily Muse: My way of joking is to tell the truth. It's the funniest joke in the world.”
(George Bernard Shaw – Neptune in Pisces)

TUESDAY
June 22
Moon in Scorpio/Sagittarius
The Void of Course Moon enters Sagittarius at 5:55 am
Mercury Moves Forward 3:00pm

The Moon leaves probing Scorpio for adventurous Sagittarius early this morning. But we won’t necessarily leave our desire to more fully understand ourselves and the world behind. Ruled by Jupiter – the planet of finding more meaning in life – Sagittarius is a natural and avid student. With the Moon squaring Jupiter in Pisces this morning, it’s likely we feel there are secrets yet to be discovered. A feeling of yearning may be in the air.

This afternoon, Mercury stations direct – the retrograde motion is over. It will take until July 7th before Mercury gets back to the place where it started moving backwards. This “shadow” of the retrograde is a time we can evaluate and incorporate the insights learned in the last few weeks. Today we truly are seekers of the truth and will look for it in a variety of places. We may be intrigued with history or biographical narratives of people that intrigue us. Searching both our own experiences and the lives and thoughts of others we take a scholarly approach to interpreting life and world events in a new light. We are motivated to apply our new insights to our own lives as the Moon makes a connection to energetic Mars in self-expressive and willful Leo tonight.

Daily Muse: Well there's these things called books...They are like TV for smart people. (Robert Redford – Mars in Leo)

WENSDAY
June 23
Moon in Sagittarius
The Moon goes Void of Course at 7:09pm

An optimistic cosmic wind is blowing through the universe before dawn as the Sun makes an empowering connection to Jupiter in Pisces. This is a reminder to put our trust in our connection to a spiritual source rather than external circumstances. If we heed the call, we may not be bounced around by the unsettling energy to come.

In the early morning Mercury fresh off it’s retrograde in Gemini is opposed by the Moon in Sagittarius. We may have difficulty assimilating our recent thoughts and insights and have an even tougher time explaining them to others. Although Sagittarius is the truth seeker, it can be a hard sell to get someone to see or accept something outside of the personal or collective philosophy they accept as truth. Sagittarius is associated with religion, which by its nature is an attempt to create a systematic code of rules for thoughts and behavior. Despite Sagittarius's flexibility, we may feel like we are an outsider or not being taken seriously if we are expressing ideas that seem provocative or confrontational.

A sense of alienation may increase this afternoon when Venus in family-oriented Cancer opposes formidable Pluto in Capricorn. Refusing to conform, go along with the group, or surrender to the will of another may be labeled as betrayal. When Venus opposes Pluto we become unsure of ourselves and confused about relationships. This uncomfortable opposition can easily incite the desire to control and manipulate others, especially loved ones. Be aware that passions are elevated and it’s hard to feel content or satisfied. We want more! We may be obsessing about something or someone or find we are the object of someone else’s possessive feelings. Moderation is hard to come by and power struggles are typical. This too shall pass; but meanwhile, having a strong connection to a spiritual source and discipline will help us weather the storm.

Daily Muse: Daily Muse: All I do know is as we age the weight of our unsorted baggage becomes heavier . . . much heavier. With each passing year, the price of our refusal to do that sorting rises higher and higher. (Bruce Springsteen – Mars in Leo)

THURSDAY
June 24
Moon in Sagittarius/Capricorn
The Void of Course Moon enters Capricorn at 6:05 am
Full Moon at 3º Capricorn 11:40 am

The Moon enters responsible Capricorn early this morning and we benefit from Luna’s harmonizing connection to Jupiter in Pisces. This is an echo of recent energy as we are reminded of the importance of incorporating spiritual and non-material qualities and values into our everyday lives. Shortly before Noon (Pacific Time), the Moon comes into a perfect opposition with the Sun in Cancer creating a Full Moon. As the Moon fully reflects the sunlight, traits and attributes of these two signs are highlighted.

In Capricorn, self-sufficiency, responsibility, and commitments come into sharper focus. Feelings tend to be more accessible on a Full Moon and emotional expression more dramatic. Incorporating the strengths of both Cancer and Capricorn, we can embrace our roles as comforters, leaders, and disciplinarians with equal confidence. Callings to take charge and lead may present themselves, and we will do it with tenderness and purpose if we are listening.

With Jupiter’s proximity – forming a Sextile to the Moon and a Trine to the Sun – we are further encouraged to look for self-confidence and strength through an inner connection to source. Relationships with others are enhanced when we take self-responsibility rather than expecting another person, object, or situation to complete or fulfill us. If relationships are feeling unbalanced or superficial, the Full Moon energy will highlight how we can shift our priorities or adjust for more satisfaction. Love extends and flows when unimpeded by artificial rules and ego-based expectations and definitions.

Jupiter in Pisces is also attracting our attention to matters bigger than ourselves.

This Full Moon in responsible Capricorn is a great prelude to Venus leaving Cancer and entering self-expressive Leo on Saturday. Do some soul searching today and tomorrow about your feelings regarding priorities, relationships, and what’s valuable, and you will be more equipped to respond appropriately rather than merely react to Venus’ changing venue and desires.

Daily Muse: Let no one be discouraged by the belief there is nothing one person can do against the enormous array of the world's ills, misery, ignorance, and violence. Few will have the greatness to bend history, but each of us can work to change a small portion of events. And in the total of all those acts will be written the history of a generation… The purpose of life is to contribute in some way to making things better. (Robert F. Kennedy – Moon conjunct South Node in Capricorn along with Venus and Jupiter)

FRIDAY
June 25
Moon in Capricorn
Neptune goes Retrograde 12:21 pm

A lunar connection with quirky Uranus may incite some revolutionary feelings for early risers, but otherwise the day has few planetary connections. Neptune the planet of dreams and illusions stations retrograde preparing for its lengthy annual period of going inward. We automatically feel pulled inward and more aware of our wishes, hopes, dreams, and sometimes our fears. This other-worldly energy, in it’s home sign of Pisces, is highly intuitive, sensitive, imaginative, and creative. Although we may not be too motivated to take action, we are enticed into our daydreams and wondering about the multitude of possibilities for our lives.

Tonight Neptune is still front and center as the Moon in pragmatic Capricorn is caught in the web of Neptune’s dreams. Our time is best spent in going with the flow – watching movies, indulging in fantasies, listening to music, immersing ourselves in water, or walking in moonlight.

Daily Muse: I dream my painting and I paint my dream. (Vincent van Gogh – Neptune in Pisces along with Venus and Mars)

SATURDAY
June 26
Moon in Capricorn/Aquarius
The Moon goes Void of Course 5:49 am enters Aquarius at 7:09 am
Venus enters Leo 9:27pm

Following an early morning opposition with Venus, the Moon in Capricorn finds new interests and thrills as it glides into progressive Aquarius. This is a friendly Moon which encourages us to spend the day dipping into as many interesting and provocative conversations and social events as possible. Although we may be tempted to take things seriously, we’re better off if we don’t. There are lots of ideas and opinions floating around that may be here today and gone tomorrow. Take them in without getting too attached. Imagine the possibilities and consequences before acting, especially on an idea that appears to be half-baked.

Venus the planet of values, and the one we associate with love and money, partnership and finances leaves family-oriented Cancer and enters Leo tonight. You know what this means, it’s “ME time”. It’s not that we are any less devoted to our partners or family, but we’re a bit fatigued with letting our personal needs take a backseat to those of others. We get in touch with our dreams and desires and elevate their prominence in our priorities. Forget the timidity and subtlety – let your colors fly. A new hairstyle, or dramatic outfit will be a good start.

Later tonight, we may be hesitant to jump right into the dramatic energy of Venus in Leo as the Moon in egalitarian Aquarius opposes Mars in Leo. We may be watching from the sidelines as an attempt for attention backfires. Maybe we can make the leap tomorrow? But don’t wait long, Venus in Leo loves to be in love and isn’t one to wait around.

Daily Muse: Life is a game and true love is a trophy. (Rufus Wainwright Venus in Leo)

SUNDAY
June 27
Moon in Aquarius
The Moon goes Void of Course

Do you remember the square between Saturn and Uranus we talked about last week? To refresh your memory, this is the ongoing drama running through 2021 in which we are balancing our need to be rule makers and followers with our need to be rule breakers. We seek stability while also yearning for progress and change. Although the intensity between the two planets is waning since June 14th the Moon in Aquarius connects with both planets today, stirring our memories and feelings and reminding us not to get too comfortable. There are still issues to be processed.

These lunar aspects occur very early in the day so thankfully, we may feel less annoyed as the Sun climbs on its daily arc. By mid-day the Moon connects with Mercury in chatty Gemini. Trading stories or exchanging ideas helps us process through the energy and can be an entertaining activity with friends and family. We might enjoy finding out where we agree or disagree with others and welcome some new ideas. We want and need something to believe in and are looking for hope.

Be aware, if we get too enamored with our own opinions the sharing of ideas may turn into attempts to recruit others to our way of thinking, especially in conversations this evening. Have confidence in yourself and try to detach from the need to have the support and approval of others. It’s great to have; but being part of a cohesive group is a mixed blessing to Aquarius. The Aquarian Moon wants to belong but has an equally strong desire to be an individual with freedom to change.

Daily Muse: Style is knowing who you are, what you want to say, and not giving a damn. (Orson Welles – Moon conjunct Uranus and North Node of the Moon all in Aquarius.)

The Week Ahead

Monday, June 28 thru Sunday, July 4

Astrological Highlights for the week: Venus is at odds with Jupiter on Monday, Mars is stifled by Saturn on Thursday and fights with Uranus on Saturday. Jupiter is conspiring (in a positive way) with Uranus on Saturday while the Sun can’t find peace of mind with Saturn.

The fireworks won’t just be in the skies this week as the US celebrates Independence Day. Weeks ago, we discussed the on-going square (conflict) between authoritarian Saturn in Aquarius and rebellious Uranus in Taurus. Although the two are not perfectly square currently, their struggle is pervasive throughout 2021 and other planets this week keep pressing their hot buttons.

Right now there are multiple planets in three of the Fixed signs – Uranus in Taurus, and the Moon Saturday through Monday; Mars and Venus are in Leo; and Saturn is in Aquarius. It’s the mission of Fixed signs to “hold down the fort”. They consolidate, focus, concentrate, and preserve energy. If you think about their placement in the zodiac, you know that following the initiation of the Cardinal signs, Fixed signs hold the energy in place so development thrives uninterrupted. You can imagine when many planets are in Fixed signs and their elements Taurus Earth, Leo Fire and Aquarius Air have different ways of doing things, there could be a few problems!

Sparks will fly this week as Mars in Leo opposes Saturn and squares Uranus. The Moon moving through Taurus next weekend will also create some heat. Nothing we can’t handle of course. And as we ride this roller coaster, we continue to gather information about how to handle conflict in general. We can also learn some valuable lessons about independence, when to take a stand, how to know the difference between a breakdown and a breakthrough and how to honor ourselves and others, even when it seems we play for different teams.

I know all you readers are not American, but for those who are, or living in the US observing the July 4th Holiday, here are some tips. When it comes to keeping people happy, remember it’s not really within your power to do so. Your power resides in creating your own contentment and happiness. Instead of focusing on the negative, or what needs to be different or improved, you might try spending time learning how to lay down your defenses and logical arguments in favor of listening and acceptance. Social events don’t need to be an opportunity to prove a point or press an opinion or an issue.

If the United States Independence Day is to be honored, maybe we do it by acknowledging what we have in common is more important than what we believe divides us; where it really counts, we are the same (Saturn in Aquarius). We yearn for the chance to break through our limitations (Uranus in Taurus), and move beyond our perceived faults and weaknesses (Chiron in Aries). We are connected to the same spiritual and divine source (Jupiter and Neptune in Pisces), care deeply about our families, homes and tribes (Sun in Cancer), and hunger for the chance to be unique expressions of divine energy, to love and be loved (Mars and Venus in Leo). We value diversity (Mercury in Gemini) and can transform and make constructive changes in our lives (Pluto in Capricorn). And last but not least, we desire comfort, pleasure, and artistry and appreciate a great potato salad and spectacular buffet anytime but especially on a holiday (Moon in Taurus).

Until next week, let go and wear loose clothes.
MONDAY
June 28
Moon in Aquarius/Pisces
The Void of Course Moon enters Pisces at 10:51am

Although the Moon leaves independent Aquarius and enters selfless Pisces in late morning, it may not seem like people are going out of their way to be kind or cooperative. Venus and Jupiter, historically the planets of benefit, are not in agreement. On a personal level this might indicate a lack of faith, passion, or inspiration, what the French call ennui. Not really bored, but not too excited about anything either. Teamwork may lack cohesiveness and flow with artistic differences being cited as the reason for the conflict.

The Moon in Pisces joins Jupiter this afternoon. This is usually a positive connection but might leave a sour note with the Moon simultaneously snubbing Venus. None of these aspects need to spell real problems, just a bit of disconnection. For example, the Moon and Jupiter in Pisces are all in for doing something good for someone. Even though Pisces has the capacity for incredible intuition and sensitivity, sometimes the need to help gets in the way of clear understanding. Instead of really listening to what someone wants and needs, we think we know the answer and push our own agenda. If we are more invested in our “sacrifice” and need to be needed, than in being of service, things can go awry.

If you feel like someone is not being cooperative or appreciative, think about your intention and your investment in having things your way. Others may not be open to unsolicited advice or the assistance you believe they need. If we feel superior or in some way better than others, they will feel it and likely reject our help and not see advances as kind, compassionate or necessary.

Daily Muse: A simple I love you means more than money. (Frank Sinatra – Moon and Jupiter in Pisces)

TUESDAY
June 29
Moon in Pisces

Under the influence of a dreamy Moon in Pisces we drift through our day simply letting things unfold as they may. When the Moon connects with unpredictable Uranus mid-day an unexpected stimulation could turn the tide. Taking care of ourselves and nurturing others might involve something unusual or unexpected. It takes this kind of spark to motivate us to look for new sources of inspiration. We are content to be daydreamers and incorporate whatever comes into our experience instead of being on the lookout.

Tonight, when the Moon squares Mercury in chatty Gemini communications, are not as straightforward as we need them to be. We hear what we want to hear and let our fantasies fill in the blanks. This might be particularly true between partners or wannabe lovers. Be careful about interpreting comments out of context or assuming something that you want to be true is, without any proof. Blind or first dates could be tricky!

Emotions and intellect are at odds. It might also be that someone who desperately wants to be in love and in a relationship gets carried away by the moment but comes to understand their true feelings during a less impressionable Moon. On the other end of the spectrum, someone who has been hiding their feelings may blurt them out in an unguarded moment.

Daily Muse: If I’m honest I have to tell you I still read fairy tales and I like them best of all. (Audrey Hepburn – Moon in Pisces)

WENSDAY
June 30
Moon in Pisces/ Aries
The Moon goes Void of Course at 10:40am enters Aries at 6:21pm

It’s a sleepy, dreamy, and slow takeoff this morning with the Moon in psychic Pisces connecting with Pisces’ ruling planet Neptune in early morning. It’s a double or maybe triple dose of “being under the influence.” It is a terrific time for spiritual practices, meditation, writing in a gratitude journal, working on a blog or other writing project, or communing with your guides and/or nature. Or there is always sleeping in, or daydreaming – activities that are seriously underrated in our hectic and fast-paced world.

The respite is relatively short. Mid-morning the Moon gets a shout out from Pluto in Capricorn and it’s time to get down to business or otherwise be accountable and productive. The Moon is void-of-course through the rest of the day until it marches into driven Aries this evening. Although we may not feel particularly accomplished this afternoon, this time is useful for strategizing our next steps. Like lining up a shot on the golf course or fitting an arrow to a bow, the plans we make before taking action, guide the direction and effectiveness and have a significant impact on the outcome.

Tonight the Moon enters Aries. Although independent by nature, this evening we are looking for allies rather than going it alone.

Daily Muse: Daily Muse: Innovation comes from people meeting up in the hallways or calling each other at 10:30 at night with a new idea, or because they realized something that shoots holes in how we've been thinking about a problem. (Steve Jobs – Moon in Aries)

THURSDAY
July 1
Moon in Aries

We are having sweet dreams in the early morning hours with the Moon in Aries connecting with Venus in playful Leo. But playtime seems to be over at dawn when our plans for the day start unraveling before we have barely had a chance to press the go button. Mars in willful Leo is countered by an opposition to Saturn in Aquarius – never a good look or a wonderful feeling! This energy often feels restrictive as we are in a stop-go pattern with mixed messages and sporadic and conflicting directives.

Mars representing our personal energy levels and motivations is not in sync with Saturn representing expertise and authority. Although we may experience this as a power struggle – someone or something outside of ourselves blocking our way – it might be helpful to consider it as a conflict between two parts of ourselves. The child within wants to be spontaneous and willful while the adult is advising discipline and patience. Ugh! We are not looking for delayed gratification, we want it now!

In mid-afternoon another emotional roadblock appears when the Moon squares the Sun in domestic Cancer. Those responsibilities to family and home just will not go away! Our temptation is to pick up our toys and find somewhere else we can play uninterrupted. We can do that; but going into survivor mode – me against the world – probably won’t alleviate the pressure. Consider acting on something that will be to your benefit but not for you alone. Although you might prefer to be out playing or starting something new, an existing project or commitment is calling out for your attention. Try not to leave it unfinished.

Tonight efforts to be self-directed will be more effective with the Moon making friends with Saturn and making peace with Mars. There is a way to tie these pieces back together and end the day on a more positive note.

Daily Muse: When an actor plays a scene exactly the way a director orders, it isn't acting. It's following instructions. Anyone with the physical qualifications can do that. So the director's task is just that – to direct, to point the way. Then the actor takes over. And he must be allowed the space, the freedom to express himself in the role. Without that space, an actor is no more than an unthinking robot with a chest-full of pushbuttons. (James Dean – Mars in Leo)

FRIDAY
July 2
Moon in Aries
The Moon goes Void of Course at 9:15pm

We come into Friday with a few bumps and bruises – at least that is how our egos are feeling after some tense energy yesterday between Mars and Saturn. If you resonate with this feeling, it’s important to focus on self-care and healing today, and probably longer if issues have been raised which correspond to past events or injuries.. And of course, that is usually the case! An important lesson in A Course In Miracles is “I am never upset for the reason I think.” How often have you found yourself overreacting to an interaction or situation only to realize you are remembering an old wound or regret? Life has a way of cycling issues back around until we come to terms with them.

When Luna in Aries connects with Mercury in Gemini this morning, we can talk through some things with friends, family members or co-workers. Notice if the exchange feels healing or is giving new energy to existing negative feelings. Ultimately, we want to get past issues not assemble allies who will agree we are victims! In a safe place risk sharing your feelings. Maybe you have been bottled up for too long. Choose your confidant carefully looking for someone with wisdom and discernment and the willingness to listen. The situation is also conducive to spending time alone processing our thoughts. Any negative or uncomfortable feelings might be an indication we are not spending enough time listening to our own voice.

The Moon’s last connection in Aries comes tonight when she squares Pluto in Capricorn. This too can be tense energy but may prove to be a turning point in which a situation is settled, and we are confident in our direction forward. If you are feeling at odds with loved ones know you are not alone, and you can trust your process and journey.

Daily Muse: I look to the future because that's where I'm going to spend the rest of my life. (George Burns – Moon in Aries)

SATURDAY
July 3
Moon in Aries/Taurus
The Void of Course moon enters Taurus at 5:28 am

The Moon slips into pragmatic Taurus early this morning and is inspired by a connection to Jupiter in Pisces. Financial stability and/or gain may be on our minds as the Taurus Moon is interested in securing a comfortable future. The day is marked by several dueling planetary interactions – one inspires confidence in new opportunities, another creates self-doubt and worries about our ability to shape our future; and the third is mostly just cranky.

The Sun in Cancer forms an awkward inconjunct (Quincunx) angle to Saturn in Aquarius. The Sun in Cancer can lean into defensiveness and be overly protective of home and family and physical resources when the possibility of a threat looms. There isn’t necessarily a threat, but life is unpredictable and 2021 has not been exactly stable or without surprises. Couple this with the Moon in Taurus, another sign with domestic and financial security issues and we might find ourselves feeling scared and vulnerable and obsessing about potential scenarios.

On the positive side, Jupiter, the planet of luck currently in imaginative and spiritual Pisces makes a positive connection (Quintile) to Uranus in Taurus. This is a great counterbalance to the worry generated by the Sun and Saturn pessimism. The overall message is likely to be confirmation that yes, things we depend on are not as stable as we expect; but changes and unexpected opportunities can help create the conditions for feeling comfortable, happy and abundant. We don’t need to depend on or look to the past; we can trust our ability to work with new resources available to us now and in the future.

We are still debating these facts and our feelings this evening when Mars in Leo conflicts with Uranus in Taurus. This is a grouchy energy, and we can expect people to be acting up and walking out. Mars is willful and stubborn in Leo and there is no comprise in sight with both planets in tenacious Fixed signs. Mars inadvertently is re-igniting sparks of the long-standing conflict between Saturn and Uranus – a thread that weaves throughout 2021. Current events and interactions may elicit buried resentments and issues. Try to be ready without defense or judgment. Observe what you are feeling and what is happening without the need to interfere. Although compromises are possible, they are not easy to design at this time.

Late night the Moon in Taurus squares Venus in Leo. This is beginning to sound like a reprise of an earlier tune! Will we have abundance, contentment, love and happiness? Yes, but there is a contingency. We can’t change the past, only shape the future with our attitudes and actions now. On an immediate level, the Moon is feeling emotionally protective tonight while Venus is up for fun and a little risk. Which side will appeal to you the most?

Daily Muse: I am not a has-been. I am a will be. (Lauren Bacall Venus in Leo along with Neptune and North Node of the Moon)

SUNDAY
July 4
Moon in Taurus
Independence Day
The fireworks won’t just be in the skies tonight as the US celebrates Independence Day. The Moon in Taurus seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time if a peaceful holiday is what we are looking for. Guess, that idea wasn’t really in our expectations anyway, was it? Nothing new or too worrisome here, just the same old stuff. The Moon will square Saturn and join Uranus. This Saturn Uranus theme is beginning to be tiresome! Although the Moon makes a pacifying connection to the Sun in Cancer this morning, it stirs up a fight with Mars in Leo. Better make both potato and a green salad to keep the folks happy today!

When it comes to keeping people happy, remember it’s not really within your power to do so. Your power resides in creating your own contentment and happiness. Instead of focusing on the negative, or what needs to be different or improved, you might try spending the day putting away your defenses and logical arguments in favor of relaxation and having a good time.

Daily Muse: I have one life and one chance to make it count for something... My faith demands that I do whatever I can, wherever I am, whenever I can, for as long as I can with whatever I have to try to make a difference. (Jimmy Carter – Venus in Leo conjunct Neptune and North Node of the Moon.)
