The Week Ahead

Astrological Highlights for the week: Mercury enters Virgo on Wednesday; and Venus enters Libra on Sunday

As the world careens into what seems like a never-ending conflict revolving around many issues but certainly involving the Covid pandemic, I thought I might make a small but hopefully thought-provoking side trip with this introduction. Don’t worry, there is plenty of astrology in the dailies so you can indulge in all the cosmic trends and details of Mercury entering Virgo on Wednesday, Venus heading home to Libra on Sunday and all the fun adventures in-between.

If your personal world is anything like mine, it’s hard to complete any conversation or interaction without a discussion of opinions about the pandemic. To vaccinate or not, masks or no masks, individual freedom versus social responsibility. With a Mercury in head-strong Aries (not to mention Mars and Venus too!) I enjoy a good argument as much as the next person. But even I am getting weary of the conflict. Even if I feel I have the better case and “won” the interaction, I don’t feel victorious or pleased with myself. It doesn’t feel good to criticize or judge others even when I deceive myself into thinking it’s justified, because after all, I am right! How to stop the madness?

With no end in sight, I am ever grateful for my studies in A Course In Miracles. With your indulgence I would like to share some excerpts from the Course regarding Judgment. These are some of my favorite paragraphs that made me laugh out loud the first time I read them. Why? Because I realized how inept I really am at judgement. My synopsis of the message is, “Quit judging not because it’s wrong; quit because you are not very good at it! But don’t take my word for it. Here are some excerpts and if they provoke an interesting inner dialog, that’s the point. (Note: there is always a danger in lifting words out of context and I understand if you are not a student of the Course, some words or phrases could be confusing. “Student can be substituted for “Teacher of God” in the section below.)

“Judgment, like other devices by which the world of illusions is maintained, is totally misunderstood by the world. It is actually confused with wisdom, and substitutes for truth. As the world uses the term, an individual is capable of "good" and "bad" judgment, and his education aims at strengthening the former and minimizing the latter. There is, however, considerable confusion about what these categories mean. What is "good" judgment to one is "bad" judgment to another. Further, even the same person classifies the same action as showing "good" judgment at one time and "bad" judgment at another time. Nor can any consistent criteria for determining what these categories are be really taught. At any time the student may disagree with what his would-be teacher says about them, and the teacher himself may well be inconsistent in what he believes. "Good" judgment, in these terms, does not mean anything. No more does "bad."
It is necessary for the teacher of God to realize, not that he should not judge, but that he cannot. In giving up judgment, he is merely giving up what he did not have. He gives up an illusion; or better, he has an illusion of giving up. He has actually merely become more honest. Recognizing that judgment was always impossible for him, he no longer attempts it. This is no sacrifice. On the contrary, he puts himself in a position where judgment through him rather than by him can occur. And this judgment is neither "good" nor "bad." It is the only judgment there is, and it is only one: "God's Son is guiltless, and sin does not exist."

The aim of our curriculum, unlike the goal of the world's learning, is the recognition that judgment in the usual sense is impossible. This is not an opinion but a fact. In order to judge anything rightly, one would have to be fully aware of an inconceivably wide range of things; past, present and to come. One would have to recognize in advance all the effects of his judgments on everyone and everything involved in them in any way. And one would have to be certain there is no distortion in his perception, so that his judgment would be wholly fair to everyone on whom it rests now and in the future. Who is in a position to do this? Who except in grandiose fantasies would claim this for himself?

Remember how many times you thought you knew all the "facts" you needed for judgment, and how wrong you were! Is there anyone who has not had this experience? Would you know how many times you merely thought you were right, without ever realizing you were wrong? Why would you choose such an arbitrary basis for decision making? Wisdom is not judgment; it is the relinquishment of judgment.

…Therefore lay judgment down, not with regret but with a sigh of gratitude. Now are you free of a burden so great that you could merely stagger and fall down beneath it. And it was all illusion. Nothing more. Now can the teacher of God rise up unburdened, and walk lightly on. Yet it is not only this that is his benefit. His sense of care is gone, for he has none. He has given it away, along with judgment. He gave himself to Him Whose judgment he has chosen now to trust, instead of his own. Now he makes no mistakes. His Guide is sure. And where he came to judge, he comes to bless. Where now he laughs, he used to come to weep.

It is not difficult to relinquish judgment. But it is difficult indeed to try to keep it. The teacher of God lays it down happily the instant he recognizes its cost. All of the ugliness he sees about him is its outcome. All of the pain he looks upon is its result. All of the loneliness and sense of loss; of passing time and growing hopelessness; of sickening despair and fear of death; all these have come of it. And now he knows that these things need not be. Not one is true. For he has given up their cause, and they, which never were but the effects of his mistaken choice, have fallen from him. Teacher of God, this step will bring you peace. Can it be difficult to want but this?”

Picking up the sword of judgment is a habit for me that will take time, maybe a lifetime to break. I recognize its weight and destructiveness to my relationships and peace of mind. We can realize the cost of believing we are capable of judgment and become more honest and lay it down. I know my aching shoulders could use a break!

(Excerpts from A Course In Miracles, Manual for Teachers, Essay 10 “How is Judgment Relinquished?)

Until next week, let go and wear loose clothes.

MONDAY
August 9
Moon in Leo/Virgo
The Moon goes Void of Course At 5:23am enters Virgo at 7:56am

The Moon in flashy Leo makes a big splash in the early morning hours with an opposition to Jupiter in Aquarius. Perhaps we get up before dawn and start training for a marathon run or century bike ride. The initial inspirational high is likely to be dampened when reality sets in. This is going to take work! Any drama should be short-lived as the Moon then moves into a void of course pattern and quietly slips into pragmatic Virgo two hours later.

The Virgo Moon is our ally when it comes to follow-through with intentions and big plans formulated on the New Moon yesterday. She helps us analyze the facts, review our resources, and set priorities.

Our main concerns today may end up surprising us as Venus in Virgo is on her way to a perfect opposition with dreamy Neptune this evening. This planetary opposition can reveal an inner emptiness and yearning. With the Moon and Venus in the mutable and dual sign of Virgo it’s a toss-up as to whether we go the route of seclusion to pursue a mystical experience, or dive deeply into a creative endeavor like music, dance, drama, or photography. Alternately, we are mesmerized by a bigger picture. We feel pulled to surrender personal agendas to participate in a meaningful group effort or service project. This yearning might also be for attracting the idyllic soul mate or transcending everyday tensions in an existing relationship. Whatever we choose, today’s energy puts us in the mood to expect more from our lives. If we can dream it, surely we can attract it, right?

We are ready to take action tonight when the Moon joins Mars in Virgo. We may have stars in our eyes from the Venus Neptune connection, but we also are blessed with the Virgo know-how to bring these dreams down to earth.

Daily Muse: Being here by the ocean in Malibu. Living in this beautiful house that we built, that took so long to build. Being in my art studio, painting. Packing my bags tomorrow to go home to Kauai where we have a house. Which all sounds very grand, and I suppose it is, in some respects, but nothing comes from nothing. It all comes from hard work. (Pierce Brosnan – Actor, Artist, and Environmental Activist – Venus in Aries opposite Neptune and Saturn in Libra, square Uranus in Cancer and trine Pluto in Leo.)

TUESDAY
August 10
Moon in Virgo

We are willing to stretch a bit beyond our usual routines this morning with the Virgo Moon connecting with freedom-loving Uranus. We feel self-confident and upbeat when we realize it’s not habits that are keeping us safe and on track, but the habit-maker – us! Sometimes we forget we are the ones making the rules and setting the agendas. If your target for breakfast is a healthy portion of protein, who is to say it must be eggs or a protein shake? The goal might easily be met with a handful of nuts and a generous dose of high-protein milk in your iced coffee. Make it low-sugar chocolate milk for a mocha treat. Try not to get obsessed by the form when it’s really the essence or content that is the most important.

We are pleasure seeking and outspoken today. As its final hurrah in self-expressive Leo, Mercury opposes Jupiter in Aquarius this evening. Throughout the day there may be manifestations of Mercury on steroids – imaginative outbursts, expansive viewpoints, pomposity, and yes, lies. This energy is not naturally untruthful; however, its generous and good-natured spirit wants everyone to enjoy and be happy. Why not tell the people what they want to hear? Promises may be grandiose and exaggerated. We could mistake someone’s self-confidence for actual ability to perform or deliver on a commitment. Look beyond the words.

Despite the potential shadow of Mercury opposing Jupiter, if we don’t lose our heads, we can enjoy this energy. It pumps up the imagination and helps us fantasize about ideas that inspire, even if we have no idea about how to bring them into manifestation. It's great for creative enterprises, marketing, and public relations. Maybe not so great if you are trusting someone’s word and judgment on a high-ticket purchase or consequential decision. Let this energy move you to enjoy and create; and perhaps leave the important decisions requiring precise understanding until another day.

Daily Muse: I paint objects as I think them, not as I see them… Everything you can imagine is real. (Pablo Picasso – Mercury in Scorpio opposing Jupiter, Pluto, and Chiron in Taurus)

WENSDAY
August 11
Moon in Virgo/Libra
Mercury enters Virgo 2:57pm
The Moon goes Void of Course At 4:22:am enters Libra at 1:08pm

The Virgo Moon makes three planetary connections today, all before dawn, leaving us with a void of course Moon until early afternoon when she enters Libra. This could be a quiet morning for reflection on our values as Venus in Virgo is moving toward a purposeful connection with Pluto in Capricorn in mid-afternoon. This energy has self-responsibility written all over it.

Whether we are talking about love, romance, and partnership or the way we handle our finances and valuables, we don’t leave the outcomes up to chance. Influenced by the Moon’s presence in Venus-ruled Libra, we may be romantic and idealistic but Pluto’s connection to Venus assures we are keenly aware of the work and dedication that goes into creating beauty, balance, justice, and success in relationships and financial security. Achievement is a result of commitment, loyalty, and perseverance especially necessary when the going gets tough.

Another factor shaping our thoughts and behaviors is Mars forming squares to the North and South Nodes of the Moon today. We are encouraged to look at the possibility of unconscious thoughts and patterned behavior that keep us from making positive choices in the present. Memories from childhood, even good ones, can work against us if we are unable to leave them in the past. Do we measure every relationship according to an idealized memory of a high school sweetheart? Do we limit our aspirations and what we believe is possible according to childhood ideas about the way the world works?

A cosmic shift occurs this afternoon as Mercury departs self-expressive Leo for discerning Virgo. Mercury in analytical Virgo is more than just a detailed thinker and precise communicator; he is disciplined, organized and able to assimilate a variety of bits of information and retain it. This is a good period for learning new things and troubleshooting complicated issues. Although we want life to be black and white, it rarely is. Mercury in Virgo can help us look for inconsistencies and mistakes that are jeopardizing our assumptions. Be cautious of turning this razor-sharp reasoning into a way to criticize and judge yourself or others. Use Mercury in Virgo to analyze and adjust your priorities. Having a solid understanding of what is involved will keep our motivation high and our devotion steady as we make new commitments and follow-through on existing ones.

Daily Muse: Daily Muse: You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough. (Mae West – Mercury and Saturn in Virgo)

THURSDAY
August 12
Moon in Libra

The Moon in Libra is offered several valuable lessons today. The first is from Saturn in Aquarius in early morning. This is a positive trine connection; and like a mentoring grandmother nudging us to say please and thank you, this energetic mix reminds us beauty is more than skin deep. It’s effortless to be kind and generous to those who make it easy; it takes character and moral fortitude to be the Libra diplomat and go out of our way for someone who is harsh, rude, or wearing the wrong slogan on their T-shirt.

The second challenge to our Libra desire for a day of peace, love, and harmony comes when the Moon opposes the Wounded Healer, Chiron, over in Aries. Whining, sarcasm, or other abrasive behavior are quickly judged by the Moon in Libra as unattractive. Recognizing these are indicators of deeper issues including confusion, wounded self-worth, depression, or feelings of being undeserving can clue us into ways to be sensitive and compassionate. Giving other people a second chance and being slow to judge someone as not worth our time, confirms in our own hearts and psyches that we too are valuable, lovable, and redeemable, even in our worst moments.

With Mercury, Venus, and Mars all currently transiting through picky Virgo and the Moon in beauty-seeking Libra, we might tend to be on the superficial side today, picking people apart for what we see as flaws. Please, prove me wrong! Aspire to see yourself in others and be gentle. As we offer acceptance and healing, we receive it.

Daily Muse: One of the basic rules of the universe is that nothing is perfect. Perfection simply doesn't exist.....Without imperfection, neither you nor I would exist. (Stephen Hawking – Moon in Virgo conjunct Neptune, and trine Saturn and Uranus in Taurus and Mercury in Capricorn.

FRIDAY
August 13
Moon in Libra/Scorpio
The Moon goes Void of Course at 1:39pm enters Scorpio at 5:01pm

The mood is intense this morning, with the Libra Moon squaring Pluto in Capricorn. Might be a good day to skip the early morning news! Although the Libra Moon is a mental air sign, the Pluto connection brings out powerful emotions and feelings of vulnerability. People choose to keep their secrets, especially if they expect criticism, rejection, or embarrassment in response to sharing their thoughts or feelings. If you want someone to open up, create a safe and accepting space for them.

The cloudy morning gives way to a brighter and more playful mood this afternoon with the Moon connecting with ever-optimistic Jupiter. But there is another cloud lingering with Mars in Virgo making an awkward connection to Saturn in Aquarius. It’s hard to find our groove. It seems a lot harder than usual to make any progress today. Mars resonates to our personal power, will, and motivation. Saturn represents authority – ours and those powers we believe influence us. It’s an edgy energy when the two are not in agreement. The conflict can manifest between ourselves and others or within two competing desires within us.

An event or news story could rock our world or poke holes in our confidence in ourselves or others. We may question someone’s judgment or second guess our own understanding, which doesn’t have to be a negative thing. Although it can be very deflating, finding an error in our thinking or plans and doubling our efforts to acquire a better understanding will serve us in the long run. A mistake revealed today will avert a potential heartache later.

In early evening the Moon is glad to leave social Libra for the privacy of Scorpio. This will be a good night for hiding out and pulling our thoughts together and trying to make sense of a recent confusion. With the Moon making a positive connection to Mercury in Virgo shortly after midnight, we might want to journal or record our ideas and thoughts. Sharing our thoughts is possible too, but only with someone you know has your absolute best interests at heart.

Daily Muse: We do not need magic to transform our world. We carry all the power we need inside ourselves already. (J.K. Rowling – Mars inconjunct Saturn)

SATURDAY
August 14
Moon in Scorpio

The Moon in Scorpio seeks intense transformation through emotional encounters. If it’s cathartic experiences you are looking for, today should meet your needs. Through this Moon we realize most transformation comes not by hiding ourselves away but through interaction and involvement in relationships and in life. This Moon is not shy; it’s fearless squaring Saturn in Aquarius in early morning, forming a motivating bond with Mars in Virgo late morning and opposing independent Uranus in Taurus this evening.

The Scorpio Moon helps us look deeply at our feelings and fears. Our involvement with others can act like a mirror where we see reflected what we love and what we judge negatively in ourselves. If you are up for a bit of self-therapy today, try being the neutral observer. What delights you, what annoys, provokes, or frustrates? There is triumph in looking at what scares us and claiming victory as we see through the shadows.

Part of the curriculum for today involves a cranky connection between Venus and Jupiter and a disorienting link between the Sun and Neptune this evening. It’s likely to be a lesson in patience and delayed gratification. Why can’t everyone just get on board with our ideas and opinions and go along with what we want? Our tolerance for accepting differences will be tested. We often forget how much we seek validation and approval through others. When we don’t get it, or don’t receive it in the form we desire and expect we take it as an attack. It may not have anything to do with us! Others’ ideas, opinions, and behaviors are not necessarily reflections of us and we don’t need to take it personally.

It feels great to feel support, but no one can take any of our worthiness or value away. These are intrinsic qualities and gifts and never threatened accept in our nightmare perceptions. Tonight, when the Sun is quincunx Neptune, reality may feel like a moving target. If you are a thrill-seeker watch a Sci-Fi fantasy movie or engage in a provocative conversation. If you are looking for more grounding, stick with what you know and limit surprises. Re-watch a favorite movie or spend time with an old friend.

Daily Muse: There is no terror in the bang, only in the anticipation of it. (Alfred Hitchcock – Moon conjunct Jupiter in Scorpio)

SUNDAY
August 15
Moon in Scorpio/Sagittarius
Venus enters Libra @ 9:27pm

The Moon goes Void of Course at 8:05pm enters Sagittarius at 8:12pm
Yesterday we talked about the fearlessness of the Scorpio Moon. Again we are along for the ride as the Moon alternates between positive and challenging connections with five planets throughout the day. During the day we’ll fluctuate between being on the offense and defense. One moment we are the stable listener giving great advice, the next we are losing our boundaries unable to separate our own emotions from others’. Remember if you temporarily get off track, a different energy is on the way. An overturned canoe can quickly right itself when we decide we are the captains of the ship. A little water, or in this case emotion, never hurt anyone, right?

The first lunar connection generates compassionate and healing energy – the gift of a lunar trine to Neptune in Pisces. It’s followed by a decisive square with the Sun in Leo signaling the closing of the first lunar quarter.

This energy will stay with us for a few days. It’s what I affectionately think of as “Off with their heads!” it’s a time we find it incredibly hard to resist judgment. The boldness and courage of the Scorpio Moon is apparent in our willingness to say or do what others are afraid to do. If we are harboring resentments, we find ourselves on the precipice of revenge. With little provocation, we act. One of the gifts of this Moon comes with experience. Time and wisdom teach us that even what we see as justified attacks don’t end up feeling good or transforming the pain. In this case failure eventually can lead to success when we are willing to observe ourselves and suspend judgment.

Mid-day we may be chafing a bit emotional but looking for justification and release as the Moon connects with transformational Pluto. Later this afternoon the emotional tone dips once again as the Moon squares Jupiter in Aquarius. We have bounced back up again this evening with a lunar connection to Venus in level-headed Virgo. Minutes later the Moon evacuates the churning waters of Scorpio and flies into truth-seeking Sagittarius. We are ready to follow the Sagittarian centaur into greener pastures.

Before the day is done, Venus the planet of values leaves fastidious and disciplined Virgo for cooperative and social Libra. When Venus is in her home sign, our innate creativity and talent for balance, harmony, color, and esthetics is spotlighted. It highlights not only our artistic abilities but brings out our appreciation for art, culture, diplomacy, and the finer things in life. Being able to recognize and appreciate what’s beautiful, loving, and valuable is an art in itself! Venus in Virgo focused on function. Now we won’t settle for just useable, we want function and artistry intertwined.

While Venus is in Libra during the next three and one-half weeks, relationships are paramount. This includes all relationships, although romantic and intimate relationships are certainly at the top of the list. This is a social sign that prefers to be part of a couple or group rather than operating alone. She thrives in peaceful, harmonious, and beautiful surroundings and will go out of her way to compromise, facilitate, and be the diplomat.

It's important during this time to remember happiness is an inside job. If we are waiting for a person, event, or circumstance to complete us or make us happy, it’s going to be a really long wait! Meanwhile we can focus on loving ourselves while making life better for others too.

Make gratitude a regular part of your day. Tap into your creative and innovative powers to add a touch of artistry and beauty to your everyday activities. Listen to music while doing routine tasks. You might consider adding a few drops of essential oils to your dust cloth or diffuse them into a room. If you have a garden, bring in the flowers, herbs, fruits and vegetables for a display of scent and color.

With the pandemic picking up intensity we might consider reverting to the torn shorts, stained blouse, or sweatpants. Resist the urge. Dress everyday like it’s going to be one of the most important of your life. Don’t “save” your party dress or favorite outfit; create your own personal party. Pretend you are expecting the love of your life to knock on your door; how will you present yourself? By the way, has it ever occurred to you, that you are the love of your life? Are you treasuring and cherishing yourself?

Daily Muse: I've come to the conclusion that the artist cannot justify life or come up with a cogent reason as to why life is meaningful, but the artist can provide you with a cold glass of water on a hot day. (Woody Allen – Venus in Libra)

Monday August 16th through Sunday August 22nd

Happy Birthday Virgo!

Astrological Highlights for the week: Mercury and Mars join forces in Virgo on Wednesday; Uranus stations retrograde on Thursday; Mercury lights up with Uranus on Friday and Mars touches the magic of Uranus on Saturday; Full Moon in Aquarius on Sunday morning and the Sun enters Virgo on Sunday afternoon.

There are plenty of interesting and exciting cosmic events this week, many of which involve or are related to Uranus. You remember him, the energy that shatters restrictions and limitations, defies expectations, and is affectionately referred to as a deviant. In all fairness to the name, Uranus makes a bizarre and unusual orbit around the Sun, was the first planet to be identified using a telescope and has little resemblance to the behavior or patterns of the other planets. Consequently, astrologers assign it the role of breaking the rules, creating surprises, and helping us embrace sudden and unprecedented change.

My favorite phrase for Uranus is “The Great Awakener”. How many philosophies, ideologies and spiritual disciplines refer to us as dreamers? Off the top of your head, I bet you can think of at least one motivational speaker or quote encouraging us to wake up. Are you interested in shaking loose a few cobwebs? This week Uranus begins a lengthy retrograde pattern extending into the first week of January 2022. While retrograde, ideas about individuality and freedom appear regularly in our dreams, experiences, and minds. We may think a lot about how we are influenced by others and how our lives are shaped by our families, friends, and associates. When planets move retrograde their energies tend to go inward influencing our psyches and manifesting in dreams, desires, urges, and ideas for our future. Take notes.

Uranus currently in Taurus also makes harmonizing and positive connections to Mercury and Mars in Virgo on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Although Virgo is analytical and cautious, these connections will inspire aha moments and light a spark motivating action regarding a goal we have been contemplating.

Early Sunday morning, (August 22nd) Uranus has a supporting role as the ruler of the Aquarian Full Moon. This Full Moon is at the very end of Aquarius – 29 degrees – opposing the Sun in Leo – also at 29 degrees. There is a sense of importance, gravity, and inevitability about planets at this degree, maybe even more so with a Full Moon in the Fixed signs. Leo and Aquarius (along with Taurus and Scorpio) share the qualities of sustaining, maintaining, conserving, concentrating, and stabilizing. Other descriptions might include stubborn, persistent, and tenacious. As fixed signs, it’s their mission to hold energy in place and they do it with excellence!

Full Moons naturally carry a sense of impending change; something is about to happen. When it occurs at this important 29th degree, that feeling is amplified. We have worked the project or situation to its conclusion. No more needs to be added. It only remains to be seen what happens next. The Aquarius Leo continuum emphasizes the differences between the Leo need for individual expression, self-esteem, and confidence and the Aquarian desire to belong to a group (as an individual), to network and work collaboratively with others toward progressive goals.

There is a lot of change energy associated with this Full Moon, so don’t be surprised if you see fireworks. But be assured, the openings created by the rumbles are just that, opportunities for new growth, greater self-expression, and a chance to connect with others on a deeper and more satisfying level.

On Sunday mid-afternoon there is a cosmic shift of a different kind when the Sun enters analytical, efficient, and disciplined Virgo. As a mutable sign we are of two minds. We crave privacy and alone time and alternately we know we were born to serve. We have gifts that will be wasted and our purpose unrealized if we keep them just for ourselves.

Some key ideas to remember about Virgo – work and study. She is passionate about both. Virgo is ruled by Mercury the planet of thinking and communication and her need to learn, understand, and organize should not be underestimated. She is concerned about health – sometimes to the point of being obsessed. Cleanliness is next to Godliness – no doubt a phrase Virgo keeps close to her heart. And she is equally preoccupied with improvement – herself, her loved ones, strangers, and the world!

Although Virgo energy can be a bit fussy, we can’t help but love her idealism and dedication. A better friend and advocate for those in need you will never find. And as the Covid Pandemic seems to be gaining traction again, we can use a refresher course in handwashing, healthy nutrition, ways to relieve stress and improve our mental health, and how to find it in our hearts to accept and serve others without an ego agenda.

Until next week, let go and wear loose clothes.

MONDAY
August 16
Moon in Sagittarius

It’s hard to get much traction today. The Moon in hopeful Sagittarius is butting up against the energy of both Mercury and Mars in cautious and practical Virgo. The Sag Moon is of the belief we can defy gravity if we only have enough faith, while Mercury is asking for all the facts before leaving the ground. This energy is at its peak late morning and might keep our minds forever cycling through details. Mars is a dynamo in Virgo, but also a perfectionist who would rather go with proven strategies than luck. Even if we shake loose of the slow-moving energy this morning, Mars square to the Moon in late afternoon may prove to be a second dose of reality that slows us down.

We have a small window of opportunity between these two aspects (described above). Around noon the Moon finds an ally in Saturn in Aquarius which is willing to expect the unexpected and look to the future for answers. There is a way forward, but it requires strategy and patience. We may want to dial back our expectations of what can be accomplished today and accept small and steady victories.

Another somewhat heavy energy circling our globe is a cranky connection between Mercury and Saturn. With Mercury in stickler Virgo, we may think we have all the answers, but authoritarian Saturn isn’t convinced. This is not a good day for attempting to influence someone’s opinion or thrill the crowd with our brilliance. We may feel frustrated by the inconsistencies we see in our own thinking. The numbers are not adding up. If so, instead of pushing ahead, take the time to unravel the knots and see the delay as an opportunity to gather more information and correct your course.

One of the ways to find satisfaction and happiness today is to enjoy the process of listening, learning, and adventure. The Sagittarius Moon is a seeker of truth through study and experience. Curiosity leads the way. Hope is the key that keeps the Sagittarian heart beating. Celebrate what is good in your life. Try something new. Stay positive!

Daily Muse: A great many people think they are thinking when they are merely rearranging their prejudices. (William James

TUESDAY
August 17
Moon in Sagittarius/Capricorn'
The Moon goes Void of Course At 9:43pm enters Capricorn at 10:58pm

We may wish we had taken more time to plan and organize our day when mid-morning the Moon in Sagittarius squares dreamy Neptune in Pisces. It’s easy to lose our footing as this very impressionable energy sweeps in and grabs our hearts. The atmosphere may suddenly feel confusing, or overwhelming. Intuition is high, but so is the feeling of vulnerability. Can I really trust my impressions or is a strong desire, or a strong-willed person getting in the way of clear perception?

Complicating the picture is an uncomfortable connection between the Sun in Leo and Pluto in Capricorn. This often resonates with a power imbalance. Although challenging, it is an opportunity to look at where we feel inferior to others, how we seek approval, and how anxious we may be to prove we are worthwhile or doing our share. We may realize we push ourselves too hard and set the bar so high, we can never meet our own expectations. If you find yourself taking on jobs others don’t want (and neither do you!) but you volunteer or accept the assignment from a place of guilt or having to prove yourself, there should be a red flag waving somewhere.

A favorable connection between the Moon and Sun mid-afternoon is a positive reminder our talents, abilities, and desires are ours to develop, explore, and share. When the Moon connects with Jupiter this evening, we are inspired to take back the reins and not play second string to anyone.

The Moon leaves Sagittarius tonight and enters hard-working Capricorn. Even though the day is almost over, it’s never too late to stand up for ourselves and take back any authority we have given to others in a misguided moment. This is a good opportunity to think of and/or repeat a personal mantra that feels inspirational and empowering. You might also consider adopting a theme song. Frozen’s Elsa rocked the world with her “Let it Go” theme.

Daily Muse: You better stand tall when they're calling you out, don't bend, don't break, and don't back down! (Jon Bon Jovi – Moon in Capricorn)

WENSDAY
August 18
Moon in Capricorn

Recognizing our strengths and not letting our weaknesses turn into handicaps is our challenge this morning as Chiron in fiercely independent Aries forms uncomfortable inconjunct aspects to both Mercury and Mars in perfectionist Virgo. Be prepared not with defenses but with awareness. The shadow of Virgo is its tendency to turn its powerful gift of analysis into a sharp sword of criticism, pettiness, and judgment. Imagine both the critical mind of Mercury and motivational Mars tuned into fault-finding, or obsessive attention to the negative. Chiron represents where we feel wounded, inept, and abandoned. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want the shadow of Mercury and Mars in Virgo anywhere near my Chiron fears and anxieties!

We might want to ponder the differences between killing, destroying or obliterating versus “taming”. Sometimes the answer is to find ways to live comfortably with the imperfect rather than cutting it out of our lives. A wild and unruly puppy can shred our furniture and our confidence; but with patience and persistence we can train it to be our best friend and companion. We all have features or characteristics we’d like to deny, hide, or destroy, but not so fast. With love and acceptance, we might turn these into assets. Barbra Streisand is famous not only for her voice but for her nose. It is reported she has refused to have it surgically altered or “fixed” because according to her, “it goes with my face”.

Fortunately, even with a dicey morning, the rest of the day looks more settled and will take less energy to turn a negative into a positive. Under the influence of a Moon in Capricorn our focus turns from our deficits to our expertise. We don’t have time to feel sorry for ourselves or worry about what someone is saying about us. Throwing ourselves into our work or tasks we find important, moves us through the day to an evening in which we feel satisfaction with a job well done.

Emotionally we are rewarded this evening with positive lunar alignments with Uranus in Taurus and with Mars and Mercury who come together in Virgo tonight. This Grand Trine in the steady earth signs is temporary but satisfying, especially if we can channel the animated Mercury – Mars conjunction into constructive purposes. After a productive day we all deserve a treat. It could be a fun evening at home watching a movie or playing games with family and friends or a small celebration to honor an accomplishment or milestone. Or perhaps you might prefer to court the favor of your Virgo side with some private alone time. Writers, bloggers, thinkers, architects, engineers, technicians and analysts of all types and styles benefit from the amped up energy of the union of Mercury and Mars.

Daily Muse: As you begin to realize that every different type of music, everybody's individual music, has its own rhythm, life, language and heritage, you realize how life changes, and you learn how to be more open and adaptive to what is around us. (Yo-Yo Ma – Mars in Virgo)

Moon in Capricorn
Uranus moves Retrograde 6:40pm
The Moon goes Void of Course At 4:59pm

Emotions run deep and revelations flowing from the heart are profound today as the Moon in Capricorn moves toward a meeting with Pluto in late afternoon. Generally, the mood is sober as the Capricorn Moon derives emotional satisfaction from work and self-reliance. Don’t expect to negotiate on prices today, or if you do, be prepared to pay a fair price for products and labor. Capricorn expects an honest assessment of the work they do and the value they bring to the table. To ask for a discount or deal without cause will likely be interpreted as disrespectful. Keep this in mind if you are in the process of buying or selling real estate or other valuable assets and commodities.

If you are discussing a pay raise or negotiating with a potential employer don’t be afraid to highlight your experiences and expertise and insist on a package that reflects your worth. You are setting the foundation for how you will be compensated and treated in the future. Be honest and confident about your value in work and in relationships without tipping the scales into arrogance or superiority. Tonight, the Sun in Leo opposes Jupiter in Aquarius which can emphasize appearances over substance. While we don’t want to be overly serious or rigid, treating important issues flippantly, exaggerating, or making empty promises will not benefit us today or in the future. This also applies to most of the above. Don’t expect to get something for nothing. The cosmos favors integrity today.

Uranus the planet that resonates with our need to break free of unnecessary restrictions and limitations begins its annual retrograde period. The planet of awakening metaphorically moves backwards until the first week of January 2022. While retrograde, ideas about individuality and freedom appear regularly in our dreams, experiences, and minds. We may think a lot about how we are influenced by others and shaped by our families, friends, and associates.

An hour after midnight (Pacific Time – technically Friday morning) Mercury in Virgo makes an advantageous alliance with Uranus. This is favorable for breaking through writer’s block, a complicated problem, or generally receiving insight through an unexpected source or in an unusual way.

Daily Muse: Be careful, lest in casting out your demon you exorcise the best thing in you…The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.
(Friedrich Nietzsche – Mars, Venus, and Chiron in Virgo, Uranus retrograde as are Jupiter, Neptune, and Pluto in his natal chart)

FRIDAY
August 20
Moon in Capricorn/Aquarius
The Void of Course Moon enters Aquarius at 1:49am

This may be one of those days when we wake up thinking, “wow, what just happened in the last few hours?” We are probably feeling a combination of Uranian influences. There is a reason Uranus is known as the Great Awakener. Yesterday the planet of liberation started a lengthy retrograde extending into 2022. Early this morning, this deviant connected with thinking Mercury, and the Moon also entered Uranus-ruled Aquarius before dawn. By the way, I’m not disparaging Uranus by calling him a deviant. This planet is known for its unusual and bizarre orbit pattern. It deviates from the expected, and in behavior has little resemblance to the other planets. Consequently, astrologers assign it the role of breaking the rules, creating surprises, and helping us embrace sudden and unprecedented change.

This morning the Moon in Aquarius aligns with Venus in Libra and in late afternoon meets up with Saturn in Aquarius. Disagreements or misunderstandings – new or longstanding - may quickly resolve with a change of attitude. We become acutely aware some of our critical, judgmental, or cranky ways have not been working out so well.

You probably are familiar with the term “scorched earth policies”. This idea which originated with a military tactic of destroying resources that might be of use to an enemy is sometimes adopted in our everyday lives when we focus on personal and separate interests. Alternatively, we can consider shared interests and focus on what’s best for the group. This idea of individuals working collaboratively toward joint goals is high on Aquarian priority list. With the Moon in this domain today, we consider our tactics by thinking outside the box and looking for new ways of handling old problems. Don’t rule out humor, as the Aquarian trickster knows the value of helping us laugh at ourselves and our seriousness.

Daily Muse: My job is to make people dream. Of course, there's a lot of technical stuff behind the scenes and a lot of hard work behind it, but I get to watch people see the result of that hard work and feel that wonder and feel that discovery, all the time. (David Copperfield – Moon in Aquarius)

SATURDAY
August 21
Moon in Aquarius

The stimulating energy of Uranus continues to grab the headlines today – Moon is in Aquarius and this afternoon Mars in Virgo aligns with this revolutionary planet. Although Mars in Virgo prefers to serve from the sidelines and out of the limelight, it has no problem sticking its neck out for a good cause, and to champion the rights of the sick, poor, underserved, invisible, and overlooked. Just try to get in the way of Mars in Virgo on a humanitarian mission!

As the planet of motivation, Mars inspires action. If you have been contemplating a change of habit or routine, or looking forward to a new project, get going. With Mars channeling careful, organized, and analytical Virgo, we can plan and start gathering information and resources. Take a step toward your future by laying the foundation in your present.

Tensions in relationships are eased today as Venus in Libra makes favorable alliances with both the North Node in Gemini and the South Node in Sagittarius. We are open to new ideas and willing to question old patterns and habits if given just a smidge of incentive. If you have been saving a conversation with a loved one for the right time, today might be your opportunity. No promises, but with the Moon in friendly Aquarius and Venus embracing the future, discussions and suggestions for positive and constructive change are more than possible.
Daily Muse: I have an almost complete disregard of precedent, and a faith in the possibility of something better. It irritates me to be told how things have always been done. I defy the tyranny of precedent. I go for anything new that might improve the past. (Clara Barton – Founder of the American Red Cross – Mars in Virgo with a strong influence of four planets in Capricorn, Venus and North Node in Aquarius, and three planets in Aries)

SUNDAY
August 22
Moon in Aquarius/Pisces
Full Moon 29º Aquarius 37' 5:02am
Sun enters Virgo 2:35pm
The Moon goes Void of Course at 5:02am enters Pisces at 5:43am

Happy Birthday Virgo! It’s your day but you gladly step into the wings until this afternoon to make way for the other cosmic headline for today. At dawn the Moon is Full at the very end of Aquarius – 29 degrees – opposing the Sun in Leo – also at 29 degrees. There is a sense of importance, gravity, and inevitability about planets at this degree, maybe even more so when it’s a Full Moon occupying this space.

Full Moons naturally carry a sense of impending change; something is about to happen. When it occurs at this important 29th degree, that feeling is amplified. We have worked the project or situation to its conclusion. No more needs to be added. It only remains to be seen what happens next. There is a lot of change energy associated with this Full Moon, so don’t be surprised if you see fireworks. But be assured, the openings created by the rumbles are just that, opportunities for new growth, greater self-expression, and a chance to connect with others on a deeper and more satisfying level.

Less than an hour after the Full Moon, Luna recedes to the depths of Pisces. We may notice a desire for reconciliation and healing as we take the energy into our psyches and hearts.

In Mid-afternoon, the spotlight is on the Sun as it leaves Leo and enters analytical, efficient, and disciplined Virgo.

As Virgo season is now in full swing (Mercury and Mars are here too) take the opportunity to review and renew yourself. This is the time to address bad habits, create new ones, and generally get our lives in ship shape.

Daily Muse: The secret of getting ahead is getting started. (Agatha Christie – Sun and Saturn in Virgo)

Monday August 23rd through Sunday August 29th

Astrological Highlights for the week: Venus makes a commitment with Saturn on Monday; Mercury is bemused by Neptune on Tuesday but finds great clarity with Pluto on Thursday; and Mercury enters Libra on Sunday.

The headline at the cosmic dance this week occurs next Sunday night, August 29th when Mercury the planet of thinking and communication leaves Virgo for the balanced and justice-seeking sign of Libra. Do you remember a month ago when Mercury spent a mere 15 days in Leo and currently is transiting through Virgo in just 19 days? Well, he will balance the scales in Libra spending 67 days here before entering Scorpio on November 5th. This is not a typo. Mercury will spend the last couple of days of August, the entire months of September and October, and 4 days in November in Libra. The astrologically astute know what’s coming next. Yep, it’s a retrograde pattern.

Mercury doesn’t retrograde until September 27th when it reaches 25 Libra. But I know many of you like to mark your calendars and keep track. For you, here are the facts. Mercury enters the Shadow of the upcoming retrograde on September 6th. This is the point it will travel back to, so you might want to start paying attention. (I will remind you when we get there.) Mercury metaphorically travels backwards from September 27th until October 18th. These are the official dates of the retrograde. We will then be in the Shadow of the retrograde for a few more weeks, until November 2nd. During this period, we incorporate what we learned and create new patterns. Officially Mercury leaves Libra and enters Scorpio on November 5th.

Whenever a planet like Mercury spends an extraordinary amount of time in a sign, it’s a wonderful opportunity to increase our familiarity with how the planet expresses in this sign. Looks like we have a couple of months to tackle the job!

Here is where we will start. Libra is a Cardinal (assertive) Air sign. All air signs work in the medium of mental and mind energy. Libra, Aquarius, and Gemini are social creatures concerned with ideas, mental stimulation, cognitive functions, communications, and expression. They excel in being conceptual and abstract, rational, theoretical, and objective. They are usually known for being impartial, unbiased, fair, and tolerant. Wherever these signs appear in your natal chart, communication, networking, and connecting to others is vital.

Ruled by Venus, the sign Libra is associated with archetypes including the lover, artist, peacemaker, and judge. Myths identify Libra with the search for a soul mate, for our “split apart” and for finding wholeness, balance, beauty, and artistry in our everyday lives. Although Mercury in Libra may turn our minds toward partnership and yearning for quality connections with people of like mind, Mercury in this sign is also associated with diplomacy and being able to weigh issues in a fair and balanced way. But of course, relationships of all kinds – intimate, friendship, neighbors, community, co-workers, and even perceived enemies – will be front and center.

Mercury in Libra could be a return to manners, intelligent discussion, and debate without rancor. I’m not holding my breath; but then again, there is hope! Will you hold this intention with me?

While Mercury is in Libra, it will connect in a significant way to Jupiter in progressive Aquarius and will negotiate conflicting squares with Pluto in Capricorn. What’s not to like here? Lots of exciting and mind-altering stimulation in the next few months compliments of Mercury. Please stay tuned; much more to come.

Until next week, let go and wear loose clothes.

MONDAY
August 23
Moon in Pisces

The day begins on a positive note with Venus in Libra making a constructive and solidifying connection to Saturn in Aquarius. Trine (120 degree) connections between the planet of love and the planet of commitment are excellent times to make decisions with constructive and happy results in many areas of life, but especially regarding relationships and finances. This is also a great time to devote yourself to developing and expressing a creative talent or enterprise.

Saturn is encouraging us to organize and structure our lives, relationships, and finances to align with our goals. For example, if you want to have a romantic dinner you make a date, a reservation, or preparations. If you want to be a blogger you set up a site and start writing. You don’t simply wait to see how things unfold. Saturn is reminding us to plan for success and be an active participant in making it happen.

Making decisions under the influence of a positive Venus Saturn alignment is a way of saying “this is a priority”. Commitments are not made lightly as the energy is infused with responsibility and faithfulness to the promise. As both Venus and Saturn are still in close alignment with the North Node of the Moon, a temporary but significant grand trine exists in the mental air signs and we benefit from the pull of the North Node towards the future. Traditions and rituals can be powerful messages that something – a get together, meeting, or activity – has special significance. Turn everyday moments into something special by planning ahead to make it so.

The Moon in compassionate Pisces is leaning into a transpersonal emotional space today. We seem to know what to say and do without overthinking. This morning, our guidance may surprise us as the Moon connects with unusual Uranus. Later the Moon’s opposition to Mars and Mercury in Virgo may take us on a detour, but it could be a useful one. Pay attention to the messages and markers along your path. Consider J.R.R. Tolkien’s line “Not all those who wander are lost.” Mars and Mercury in pragmatic Virgo may be a bit dismayed by seemingly ethereal Pisces Moon energy, but there could be a purpose we cannot realize with our rational minds. We are likely to end up exactly where we need to be as the Moon joins Neptune (Pisces’ ruler) tonight.

Daily Muse: What I have in me... it's not hard, and it's not cold, and it's not fierce ambition, that's not what it is. It's a drive [for success], but it's not a drive...it's being driven, it's something I have no control over. It's something pushing me, I'm not pushing myself…Sometimes you have to make your own opportunities and that's why I'm on TV. I wasn't going to sit around anymore, waiting patiently for the damn phone to ring. I had to create my own place- I've always done that. (Bette Midler – Venus trine Saturn)

TUESDAY
August 24
Moon in Pisces/Aries
The Moon goes Void of Course At 2:12am enters Aries at 11:57am

It should not be a surprise when we set out minds on something and then feel a flood of motivation to make it happen. The Moon is void of course in Pisces from the early morning hours until a few minutes before Noon (Pacific Time) when it blasts into ‘Just try to stop me” Aries. This morning is a good time for contemplating and planning. This afternoon is for initiating and action. We can literally move mountains with the Aries Moon inspiring us. This is a forceful and indomitable energy that says, “Feel free to follow me, but I am moving forward with or without you.”

Doubts may come up this evening when Mercury in analytical Virgo opposes Neptune in Pisces. Both are in their home signs and represent the differences between the rational mind and the creative and intuitive part of ourselves. We may experience this as a challenge in communication. We are too emotional when we need to be straightforward and logical. Translating our passions into words is not usually easy. But the flip side – translating our passion creatively through art and non-verbal media – flows naturally.

Avoid scheduling influential discussions for tonight or activities that require a high level of concentration and focus. We will have a difficult time limiting the sway of emotion on our thinking. Being aware of this influence we schedule our time with an emphasis on activities that are energized by the special qualities of the right brain.

Daily Muse: Art is my life and my life is art… I thought art was a verb, rather than a noun… When people don't understand my work, I don't feel like explaining. (Yoko Ono – Mercury in Pisces opposing Neptune in Virgo)

WENSDAY
August 25
Moon in Aries

An early morning lunar alignment with Saturn lights our fire. As this willful and independent Moon in Aries also opposes Venus in Libra, compromises are few and far between, at least until late evening. To say we are headstrong is putting it mildly. We are more likely to rely on our own evaluations, strategies, and opinions and are not shy about making it obvious others’ views or thoughts have little to no impact on our thinking and plans. We are not particularly interested in equal relationships or democracy this morning! It’s more like we are on a personal mission and our faith in the goal is even greater than our faith in ourselves.

During this day of being fired up, we will do well to not be indifferent to others. Late this evening when the Moon moves into the dissemination phase of its cycle, we will remember the value of having allies and networks. Some goals are too big or unwieldy for one person to accomplish even with an Aries Moon. It is then, we will be devoted to a goal, and looking for partners willing to combine resources and efforts.

Daily Muse: Daily Muse: I want minimum information given with maximum politeness. Jackie Kennedy (Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis – Moon in Aries, Venus in Gemini opposing Saturn in Sagittarius)

THURSDAY
August 26
Moon in Aries/Taurus
The Moon goes Void of Course At 2:14:pm enters
Taurus at 9:27pm

We have the chance to demonstrate the power of our minds today to consciously interpret events. Mercury the planet of thinking and communication feeling strong in its home sign of Virgo makes a strengthening alliance to Pluto in steadfast and resolute Capricorn. As Pluto is the planet of crisis, transformation, and regeneration, under it’s influence we often confront our ideas and expand our concepts and understanding. Mercury trine Pluto is sharp, able to focus and concentrate, independent, and yet adaptable. There is intellectual brilliance, channeled through an unbending desire to see truth. If we can avoid being judgmental or know-it-alls we can be excellent teachers and communicators under this influence.

The rub comes in late morning when the Moon in impatient Aries, learning the lesson of cooperation and the value of collaboration, conflicts with Pluto. Our need for emotional security, if handled immaturely, leads to controlling and demanding behavior. Our faith in our goal and/or in ourselves wavers temporarily. When the external lights go out, approval falters, or the path seems impossible is exactly when we need to look inside ourselves for inspiration and guidance. It’s there; I promise. We need to remember the overarching purpose and look beyond the temporary conflict and feelings of vulnerability. Reach for the light inside and you will not fail to find it.

We won’t wait long, as the Moon is steadily reaching for a positive and hope-infusing connection to Jupiter in Aquarius this afternoon. Our faith will be restored, although we may have to accept a new piece of the puzzle we were hoping to kick to the curb. The truth won’t be denied and the sooner we look at and accept something that has been nagging us, the sooner hope and confidence return.

The Moon winds down it’s transit through Aries on this hopeful note which should lead to a somewhat peaceful evening. This depends on us. The cosmos is reaching for peace as the Moon glides into sensuous Taurus in late evening. This sign is not without conflict, but often does most anything to limit tension and controversy. Go to bed early tonight for some much-needed rest and you will awaken tomorrow ready to hit the ground running.

Daily Muse: The greatest discovery of any generation is that human beings can alter their lives by altering the attitudes of their minds. (Albert Schweitzer – Mercury in Capricorn trine Pluto in Taurus)

FRIDAY
August 27
Moon in Taurus

Our initial feelings today include stability as the Sun in helpful and unselfish Virgo plays nicely with the Moon in sister earth sign Taurus. But as we all know, happiness comes from a deeper place than superficial and temporary signals. We may be happy our co-worker stopped for coffee and brought one for us too, but the enduring joy comes from knowing they were thinking of us and anticipating our needs and desires.

If the coffee is black when we prefer double cream their “thoughtfulness” may quickly be downplayed. If joy is to be a steady and dependable stream, we need to base it on something within ourselves and not leave it to others to read our minds or believe it’s a steady parade of the pieces of life all fitting nicely together.

In fact, the pattern feels pretty quirky this morning as Mercury in detailed and exacting Virgo makes an uncomfortable alliance with Jupiter in freedom-loving and experimental Aquarius. Do I need to emphasize that none of those planets in disciplined and organized Virgo (Sun, Mars, and Mercury) are very tolerant of the eccentric ways of Aquarius? The feelings will pass but meanwhile, today we might be annoyed if we believe someone is being too meticulous and exacting when we want to play things loose and unconventional. Likewise, we may be the one preferring precise communications and strategies while everyone else seems to be erratic, unpredictable, or unreasonable.

This afternoon when the Moon in deliberate Taurus conflicts with Saturn in Aquarius we must try harder to accommodate others especially when their ideas or behaviors are different than our own. When we expand our tolerance for what is acceptable, it’s easier to not get caught in rigid thinking and fault-finding mindsets. Our happiness does not need to depend on every hair in place and the world being uniform. Creativity expresses in diversity. We can truly enjoy imagining new designs for living that incorporate the unusual and unexpected.

Daily Muse: I have to accept the fact that, no matter what I do, it's going to annoy someone…I seem to always inspire a strong reaction one way or the other… One of the nicest compliments I would get very often on the street is people would say, 'I love you on 'The Good Wife.' I just can't tell whether I should like you or hate you!' (Nathan Lane – Mercury retrograde in Capricorn inconjunct Jupiter and Pluto both retrograde in Leo. His Mercury also is opposing Uranus in Cancer)

SATURDAY
August 28
Moon in Taurus

We luxuriate in the calm and stabilizing influence of the Moon in Taurus. However, during the last few years with unpredictable Uranus in this sign, we are learning to expect at least something different and unusual when the Moon transits through this sign. The Moon meets up with Uranus in the middle of the night potentially sparking eccentric dreams or even waking us up before sunrise.

Otherwise, lunar connections today are calming and productive with Luna motivated by Mars in Virgo mid-day, inspired to greater levels of creativity and compassion by Neptune this evening, and blessed with emotional resilience as it connects to Pluto late tonight.

These steadying influences will help us adjust our responses to any issues arising throughout the day. Venus in partnership-oriented Libra is playing the lover and the diplomat doing her best to champion the causes of peace and kindness. We will have to access greater levels of patience and cooperation as she makes an awkward connection to independent Uranus in Taurus. The Sun’s square to both the North and South Nodes is an encouragement to consider how much we want the past to influence the future. What can be minimized or discarded to make way for the new?

Daily Muse: The Constitution only guarantees the American people the right to pursue happiness. You have to catch it yourself. (Benjamin Franklin – Venus in Capricorn inconjunct Uranus in Leo)

SUNDAY
August 29
Moon in Taurus/Gemini
Mercury enters Libra 10:10pm
The Moon goes Void of Course at 7:59am enters Gemini at 9:42aam

The Moon in Taurus has plans that involve mental Mercury today. Luna connects with Mercury in Virgo early this morning, and of course to be fair, in addition to communications this planet also is associated with the arms and hands and with manual dexterity. Perhaps it’s a rousing game of Tennis or Pickle Ball on your agenda this morning.

Mid-morning when the Moon enters Gemini, one of Mercury’s home signs, we are more likely to pull to the mental and communication side of the energy. But it’s not just idle chatter that captures our hearts. This is a great day for writing, blogging, journaling, and recording our ideas and thoughts. With Mercury in the last degrees of analytical Virgo, putting pen to paper or your fingers to the keyboard can be quite productive for original writing or editing projects.

Late tonight Mercury leaves Virgo for the balanced and justice-seeking sign of Libra. Do you remember a month ago when Mercury spent a mere 15 days in Leo and just 19 days in Virgo? Well, he will balance the scales in Libra spending 67 days here before entering Scorpio on November 5th. The astrologically astute know what’s coming next. Yep, it’s a retrograde pattern.

For the most part, Mercury’s move to Libra has little influence on today since it happens late tonight. Today we are still under the dedicated, organized, and fastidious expertise of Mercury in Virgo. If you are a writer or communication is important (and when is it not?) this is a great day to tap into Mercury’s proficiency and grandeur in it’s home sign of Virgo. For information on Mercury in Libra, and dates for the retrograde, please see the introduction to this column and stay tuned. Much more to come!

Daily Muse: Farewell to Mercury in Virgo: The secret to writing a screenplay is keeping your ass in the chair. (ASS + CHAIR = PAGES!) (Oliver Stone – Mercury in Virgo)
Bonus: You must have chaos within you to give birth to a dancing star. (Friedrich Nietzsche – Mercury in Libra opposing Uranus in Aries)
