Astrological Highlights for the week: Mars is inspired by Uranus on Tuesday; and Mercury joins Pluto on Friday
When Mars in Capricorn forms a strong alliance with Uranus on Tuesday, it’s a bonus situation for everyone wishing for creative and innovative solutions to what may feel like new or age-old problems. When the energy and motivation of Mars in determined Capricorn is supported by the out-of-the box thinking of Uranus in pragmatic Taurus, well let’s just say, we can move mountains.
Iconic dance stars Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly both were born with positive connections between Mars and Uranus. Each was known for the athleticism and innovative approach used in their dancing and many of their routines remain Hollywood standouts. Don’t tell me you have never seen Fred Astaire dancing on the walls and ceiling in “Royal Wedding”, or Gene Kelly dancing with a shadow of himself or a cartoon character. Movie directors Wes Craven and Oliver Stone are also good examples of people who have excelled using innovative ideas and approaches. Oprah Winfrey is another born with Mars trine Uranus.
We can tune into and access this formidable energy on Monday while the two planets are approaching each other and feel the peak of their meeting early Tuesday morning. If you are looking for inspiration and motivation, mark your calendars and pay attention to what comes your way or pops up in your consciousness.
The above is exciting for sure, but maybe more importantly, depending on your point of view, is what happens on Friday. This is the day when Mercury meets up with Pluto, the Transformer, in Capricorn. During Mercury’s recent retrograde pattern, the messenger planet met up with Pluto, two times in no-nonsense Capricorn. On Friday Mercury will meet Pluto for a third and final time as part of this current series. Pluto has a way of getting to the truth, digging for hidden information, and bringing things to light. In tandem with the inward motion of Mercury, no doubt some interesting and useful disclosures and discoveries are being exposed.
This includes individual and personal revelations as well as releases of information on a much wider scale. I am reminded of the energy generated by the movie and concept “An Inconvenient Truth”. The truth may set us free, but first, it may create quite the psychological or emotional reaction! Whenever our awareness is expanded intentionally or otherwise, we greet it with a variety of responses. We may be delighted, pleasantly surprised, totally blown away, or silenced in fear or awe.
Our emotional response is not just a reaction to what we are realizing, but a response to a variety of other thoughts and feelings. Especially if the new information contradicts what we previously believed or held sacred, our response can be quite strong. How could I have been wrong? What does this mean for me and my future?
As stimulating as Mercury Pluto revelations can be, what we can’t or really shouldn’t do is ignore the truths knocking at our consciousness. They can give us the awareness and motivation to rearrange priorities, delegate responsibilities, turn away from activities, relationships, and promises, and double our commitments and efforts toward what now is seen as our path. In the long run, we’ll look back on this time as an opportunity to fine tune our efforts and be more effective in all areas of our lives. It’s very exciting, and very probably inconvenient.
Recent revelations may have uncovered truths that are hard to face or involve loss on some level. Even when we choose to change our minds, or voluntarily release an idea, behavior, project, or relationship there can be an element of feeling empty or unsure as the future has yet to be revealed.
Most of us have all had the feeling of changing residences. No matter how much we are excited about a new and exciting adventure, the moment of looking on the empty space and locking the door for the final time can be profoundly sad. All life changes, even the happy ones like falling in love, getting married, accepting a new job, having a baby, getting a puppy, receiving an award, or going on a much-anticipated journey or vacation, carry an element of excitement mixed with stress.
Maybe one of the reasons we have historically feared Mercury and other planetary retrogrades is because turning inward and reviewing the past may mean gaining a new understanding which could very well lead to changing our minds! We greet change with both positive and negative responses. If you are faced with “inconvenient truths” this week and beyond, I encourage you to embrace them with grace.
We are still incorporating the many gifts of the Mercury and Venus retrograde patterns. Both planets are still in the shadow periods of their respective retrogrades. Mercury leaves the shadow on February 23rd and Venus on March 1st. Foster humility when recognizing you want to change direction or have completed your interest in a certain area of your life. Surrender to new information and revelations without a need to judge yourself, others, or the past. Believe in your connection to a higher, loving, presence who can teach you to smile and gently laugh instead of defending. Finding our bliss is often about understanding what our bliss is Not.
Until next week, let go and wear loose clothes.
MONDAY
February 7
Moon in Taurus
The Moon in earthy and pragmatic Taurus awakens our desire to control our destiny. It’s not enough to go with the flow and watch how things turn out. Like it’s sister Earth signs Virgo, and Capricorn, Taurus is ambitious and understands on an inner level it is up to us to make things happen. Positive lunar alignments throughout the day inspire, motivate, provoke, and encourage us to be doers instead of watchers.
With many lunar connections on the schedule, we may feel inclined to interact and collaborate with others. Take time for breakfast with family or an outdoor outing this morning as the Moon connects with Jupiter. We sense luck is on our side. There is synchronicity in the air so listen to your intuition. What feels good right now? Taurus is closely aligned with nature. Anything you can do outdoors is a bonus and invites the good vibes of this Moon.
Mid-day you may want to join co-workers or colleagues for a lunch brainstorming session. Motivational Mars in Capricorn picks up the pace and momentum as it forms a harmonizing trine to the Moon. This is quickly followed by Luna’s merger with unpredictable Uranus. The energy is high and unusual activities or ideas are likely to be winners. Don’t be afraid to suggest a novel idea or activity. The more imaginative the better.
After a productive and possibly unexpected afternoon, we are ready to meet an old friend or loved one for walking through the park (or how about snowshoeing?) or dinner at a trendy grill this evening. You might want to live vicariously in a sports bar watching the Olympic ski jumpers or mogul racers. The Moon’s favorable alignment with Venus in Capricorn makes this a good time for strengthening bonds with a loved one or forging positive professional alliances. If you have an invitation to a community fundraiser or philanthropic effort, consider participating.
Late tonight, a cranky lunar square with Saturn in Aquarius may threaten the overall good vibes of the day. Likely there has been a lot of stimulation today so honor the Taurus Moon’s need for quiet and rest. Call it a day and hit the sheets. If circumstances keep you awake and/or frustrated for any reason, you can access another Taurus Moon strength – fences and boundaries. Know your limits and hold your space. It’s not just Virgo that needs some private time.

TUESDAY
February 8
Moon in Taurus
The Moon goes Void, of Course 8:48pm
We feel even more driven to take charge of something when the Taurus Moon squares the Sun in Aquarius early this morning. This marks the end of the first quarter of the Lunar cycle. This is typically when we realize any delays or troubles with accomplishing our New Moon intentions set last week. Plans on paper or in our heads may not reflect the possible real-life issues that pop up. Now it’s time to look at any snags and readjust our expectations or strategies.
Fortunately, we are blessed again today with Luna reaching out and making positive and friendly connections with planets and an even more energizing alignment between Mars in Capricorn and Uranus in Taurus. As the planet of revolution and awakening, Uranus is famous for thinking outside the box, bending the rules, and seeing the possibilities. (Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly, dancers famous for their athletic and novel approach to the art form, had Mars trine Uranus in their natal charts.)
?Mars supplies the determination and energy, so we are in a good position to meet any obstacles with a creative and innovative powerhouse. Imagination plays a part too as the Moon makes a positive connection to Neptune in creative Neptune. If we are making excuses this morning protesting, “I can’t”, we’re not tuning into the energy!
This evening discussions are lively as the Moon taps into the qualities of Mercury in Capricorn. Thinking is productive and it’s a great time to share ideas, discuss plans or work alone recording your thoughts and ideas. Mercury is finished with it’s retrograde but doesn’t move out of the shadow until February 23rd. The next few weeks are excellent for thinking through messages we have heard recently, revelations that have come our way, and thinking through changes we want to integrate into our personal and professional lives. Under the Taurus Moon we want to apply our insights and translate them into actions and manifestations. This is abundantly clear later this evening when the Moon aligns with Pluto in Capricorn. This is a no-nonsense energy that asks, if not now, then when? This evening foreshadows Mercury’s profound meeting with Pluto on Friday morning.
Daily Muse: What counts more than luck is determination and perseverance. If the talent is there, it will come through. Don't be too impatient. Stick at it. That's my advice. You have to plug away, keep thinking up new ideas. If one doesn't work, try another. (Fred Astaire – Mars in Leo trine Uranus and Chiron in Sagittarius and Venus in Aries)

February 9
Moon in Taurus/Gemini
The Void of Course Moon enters Gemini 2:27am
The Moon leaves determined Taurus and glides into versatile Gemini early this morning. This may catch us somewhat off guard especially since Luna makes no planetary connections until late this evening. Our schedule tends to be fluid as we consider multiple options. We may have difficulty concentrating or keeping our minds on anything specific unless there is a relevant motivation attached.
Because Mercury, the thinker and messenger rules Gemini, this might be the time to tackle a project that requires both mental focus and flexibility. Looking at multiple options or different sides of an issue comes easy. Unless there are pressing issues or demands on your time you might use this day to investigate choices for something fun in your life, like checking out various locations for a family vacation or lover’s getaway. If moving is on your mind, spend some time checking out the various on-line real estate sites making notes on what you like and creating a list of important characteristics or locations.
Generally, this is a good day for doing “homework” whether it’s related to work, family, or individual dreams and desires. Planning your next vacation or checking out courses for improving your garden or public speaking can be just as important and satisfying as other priorities on the list.
Tonight, the Moon squares Jupiter in Pisces. This can be somewhat deflating either because we bump up against realities that prove limiting to our dreams or because we judge some ideas and activities as being less important or valuable than others. If you are feeling judgy check your assumptions. Is binging on a television series less important than practicing a musical instrument, meditating, catching up on your e-mails or doing laundry? The answer to this question rests with you. Only you know which activities contribute to your overall sense of self-esteem, balance, and happiness.
Gemini Moons are good times to examine self-talk and the effectiveness of our communications with others. We can look at the way we lie to ourselves and the ways we try to influence others. Objective observation is always more enlightening and useful than judgment.
Daily Muse: The truth only hurts when you want to believe a lie. (Jennifer McVey)
THURSDAY
February 10
Moon in Gemini
We are likely moving toward important revelations and insights over the next few days. No doubt it’s partially due to absorbing some of the Mercury retrograde messages tumbling around in our heads. The Moon in Mercury-ruled Gemini is certainly setting the stage as it makes a durable and steadying connection to Saturn in Aquarius mid-day. We are seeing through flimsy excuses, defenses, and arguments to greater truths. Especially our own! We are taking more ownership of our ideas, thoughts, actions, attitudes, feelings, and the results we are manifesting. It’s easier to recognize how we are both aiding and jeopardizing ourselves and consequently how to make appropriate changes as necessary.
As the Moon moves toward a confusing square with Neptune in ethereal Pisces tonight, we may get pulled off track, but it’s a temporary setback. Although it’s not necessary, it can be useful to take some detours or recognize a dead end. Sometimes experience is the only way to know for sure. This energy can lead to feeling lonely or separated from loved ones or feeling harshly criticized or scolded. Be slow to throw up a defense if it’s a trusted loved one who is the source of the reprimand. Although the means may be hurtful, there could be a grain of truth in what they are saying. Don’t defend their actions; look beyond them. Try to find the love or genuine concern behind their words. Even if they are doing it the wrong way, their intent may be to caution you against a dangerous or unhealthy choice or path.
Tonight’s confusion will lead to greater clarity tomorrow morning when Mercury meets up with Pluto. Don’t try to push for the truth if it’s not forthcoming tonight. Clear the obstacles and the light will come of its own accord, like the sunrise. Ambiguity feels uncomfortable, but the process of working through it will be helpful.
Daily Muse: Truth has a power only the courageous can handle. (Anthon St. Maarten)
FRIDAY
February 11
Moon in Gemini/Cancer
The Moon Goes Void, of Course,12:23am enters Cancer 3:27pm
“An Inconvenient Truth” is an apt phrase and idea for today. During Mercury’s recent retrograde pattern, the messenger planet met up with Pluto, the Transformer, two times in no-nonsense Capricorn. Today marks the third and final meeting of the two planets as part of this current series. Pluto always has a way of getting to the truth, digging for hidden information, and bringing things to light. In tandem with the inward motion of Mercury, no doubt some interesting and useful disclosures and discoveries are being exposed.

In the long run, we look back on this time as an opportunity to fine tune our efforts and be more effective in all areas of our lives. It’s very exciting, and very probably inconvenient.
Mid-afternoon the Moon leaves Gemini and heads into her home sign of Cancer. If we are feeling confused, or generally upset or challenged by overwhelming life circumstances this is a good time to hunker down and take care of ourselves. We may feel particularly vulnerable and sensitive through the evening and night.
All life changes, even the happy ones like getting married, accepting a new job, having a baby, getting a puppy, or going on a much-anticipated journey or vacation, carry an element of excitement mixed with stress. On a Cancer Moon we can tune into our feelings and ask for the support and reinforcement we need and want.
Daily Muse: Normality is a paved road: It’s comfortable to walk, but no flowers grow on it…What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?
(Vincent van Gogh – Mercury conjunct Pluto)
SATURDAY
February 12
Moon in Cancer
Cancer Moons can be moody, but they are also tenacious and able to shake us out of a “poor me” state of mind. And we probably need a little shaking up mid-day with the Moon squaring Chiron, the Wounded Healer in Aries. At first, we may be tempted to buy into a belief we are unworthy or unlovable, but a gentle laughter soon follows. A higher wiser voice in our head says, “Really?????? Where the heck did you get that idea, from a fortune cookie or a bubble gum wrapper? Think again.” Even if we are slow to respond, Luna’s positive trine to upbeat and hopeful Jupiter in forgiving Pisces makes it nearly impossible to continue a spiral downward.
This afternoon a surprise could help change any lingering negativity as the Moon makes a stimulating connection to Uranus. Make your own surprise by consciously considering a change of scenery. Try something new and different, on purpose.
Tonight, the Moon opposes both Mars and Venus in Capricorn. It may be difficult but certainly not impossible to find common ground with family and loved ones. Oppositions can feel like a tug-of-war, but there is fun in the process of finding a compromise or even surrendering. This may seem like an odd choice, but tonight it’s really something to consider. I’m not suggesting you let yourself be manipulated or abused. I’m thinking there may be a delicious relief in being humble enough to admit when we are wrong and maybe even when you we are not. What is the cost to insisting on having our way? Have the white flag of surrender handy and watch the steam of tension evaporate. Kindness is more important than being right.
Daily Muse: My religious philosophy is kindness. Try to be kind. That's something worth achieving. (Pierce Brosnan – Moon in Cancer)
SUNDAY
February 13
Moon in Cancer
Patience with Grace. Does this conjure up an image for you? Today’s Cancer Moon is not exactly inactive, but it’s the kind of progress that isn’t necessarily visible to the physical eye. It might be similar to the slow but steady development of an unborn baby, or the gentle heating of a pot of water coming eventually to a boil. It’s best to not be anxious or meddling when waiting for results once we have set the pattern in motion.
The Cancer Moon is naturally in tune with home and family. As a Cardinal sign, Cancer is ambitious and a mover and shaker. Cancer not only plants the seeds, but also oversees the natural development, growth, increase and nurturing of projects and relationships. Unless there are strong indications otherwise, today, is for nurturing and patiently watching rather than initiating.
We might want to participate in activities that support, maintain, and nurture our homes and families or those of others. With the Moon connecting with empathetic Neptune in Pisces mid-day this is a good time for doing charitable work, donating money or time to causes that provide for families, or otherwise giving resources or support to groups with the mission of caring for people or animals. Helping with homework, babysitting the grandkids or a neighbor’s children or pets are favored along with any activity that supports the network of community.
In late evening, the Moon opposes Pluto in Capricorn. This can be an emotionally cathartic energy in which we face up to fears or vulnerabilities. People tend to be more emotional and sometimes on edge under this influence. Be gentle with yourself and others. Avoid being demanding, selfish, or possessive. The intensity of this emotion will resolve quickly if we don’t exaggerate the importance of the trivial and unimportant while respecting people’s feelings.
Daily Muse: Our health relies entirely on the vitality of our fellow species on Earth. (Harrison Ford – Moon in Cancer along with Sun, Mercury, and Jupiter)

If we are feeling confused, or generally upset or challenged by overwhelming life circumstances this is a good time to hunker down and take care of ourselves. We may feel particularly vulnerable and sensitive through the evening and night.
