Monday March 7th through Sunday March 13th
Astrological Highlights for the week: Mercury enters Pisces on Wednesday; and the Sun joins Neptune on Sunday.
Mercury garners our attention this week as the planet of thinking and communication leaves mental and revolutionary Aquarius for the intuitive and psychic-rich ocean of Pisces. Known for its far-reaching imagination, Mercury in Pisces makes connections that defy the limits of the rational mind. These natives align with artistry and have an acute sensitivity to sound, color, smell, touch, and feelings. They may be more adept in communicating with music and images than in words. Mercury in Pisces helps connect us to the ethereal world of the soul and spirit and makes it easier to tap into our creativity, intuition, and psychic abilities.
But this doesn’t mean those with Mercury in Pisces can’t also be top notch intellectuals, communicators, and influencers. Think Rachel Maddow host of one of the most popular cable News programs and Rhodes Scholar, biologist Charles Darwin, Presidents Abraham Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson, and motivational guru Tony Robbins.
The gifts of Mercury in Pisces are access to fabulous creativity, flowing intuition, and the ability to see beyond the limits of the physical world. The downside might be the tendency for our focus and concentration to waver; distractions are everywhere! We may tend to drift in and out of conversations or reality and be tempted to escape or check out when life feels overwhelming or too serious. We see what we want and can easily ignore or deny what we don’t like or want to believe.
During this three-week period, it’s important to strive for clarity using both the rational mind and intuition. We might notice a greater appreciation for the arts including photography, music, film, dance, and theatre and see the magic and transformational power of individual acts of imagination and creation. Likewise, we may find ourselves attracted to a spiritual discipline or practice or yearn for a clearer understanding of our spiritual nature.
I recently came across this description of a long-distance flight written by Charles Lindbergh. It’s not too hard to imagine he was born with Mercury in Pisces. It’s a long quote, if you want to skip it, feel free, but don’t miss the last part of the introduction to get a glimpse into another important celestial phenomena occurring this week.
“On a long flight, after periods of crisis and many hours of fatigue, mind and body may become disunited until at times they seem completely different elements, as though the body were only a home with which the mind has been associated but by no means bound. Consciousness grows independent of the ordinary senses. You see without assistance from the eyes, over distances beyond the visual horizon. There are moments when existence appears independent even of the mind. The importance of physical desire and immediate surroundings is submerged in the apprehension of universal values.
For unmeasurable periods, I seem divorced from my body, as though I were an awareness spreading out through space, over the earth and into the heavens, unhampered by time or substance, free from the gravitation that binds to heavy human problems of the world. My body requires no attention. It's not hungry. It's neither warm nor cold. It's resigned to being left undisturbed. Why have I troubled to bring it here? I might better have left it back at Long Island or St. Louis, while the weightless element that has lived within it flashes through the skies and views the planet. This essential consciousness needs no body for its travels. It needs no plane, no engine, no instruments, only the release from flesh which circumstances I've gone through make possible. (Charles Lindbergh)
If you read last week’s Power Peek you may remember the emphasis on new cycles initiated when planets conjoin. This week on Sunday March 13th there is another one. It coincides nicely with Mercury in Pisces, probably because it involves both the Sun and Neptune – also in Pisces.
The Sun begins a new cycle with Neptune annually. This is the 11th joining of the two planets in Neptune’s home sign of Pisces. (There will be three more – through March 2025.) The Sun represents ego and self-identity while Neptune is associated with dreams, illusions, idealism, intuition, and psychic abilities, and with mysticism and transcendence.
This conjunction initiates a pattern for connecting with our dreams and igniting our passions. In describing people born with the Sun conjunct Neptune James Braha writes, “The person is a visionary and lives life as if no boundaries exist other than the false ones inflicted by humanity. The person is an idealist of the highest order.” I can’t help but think of the line by George Bernard Shaw, “You see things and say “Why”? But I dream things that never were and I say “Why not”? Both John F. Kennedy and his brother Robert used similar sentiments in speeches, “Some men see things as they are and say, why; I dream things that never were and say, why not?
These are the questions we can be asking ourselves at this time. As unlimited beings, what prevents us from aspiring to a higher and more gracious way of living together on this planet? As Mercury transits through Pisces and the Sun joins Neptune there are no limits except the ones we design and accept.
Until next week, let go and wear loose clothes.
MONDAY
March 7
Moon in Taurus
The Moon in domestic Taurus is yearning to make a mark on the world. Harmonizing with three planets in Pisces, Jupiter, and the Sun this morning, and with Neptune this evening we may be tempted to just go with the flow. However, a lunar square to Saturn in Aquarius mid-afternoon suggests taking responsible action is more likely to produce an effect. Think of it as a gardener intentionally cultivating a plot of ground or collection of containers and planting specific seeds for a particular harvest. We could just wait and see what naturally comes up, but we will be more satisfied if we make changes with a purpose in mind.
This applies to most any project or goal. We set an intention and take ownership and responsibility by investing ourselves and our energies into it. This includes setting up structures and boundaries, in effect posting a notice to others, “This belongs to me and I am taking care and responsibility for it.” This may be appropriate for our career and work today, as the Taurus Moon yearns for work and activities that have personal meaning. We may identify a new goal we want to achieve or spend time on an existing one. At both work and in our communities, we may find ourselves raising our hand to volunteer for an effort that piques our interest. In our personal lives we may be staking out an actual garden or a project we want to nurture.
Easy lunar aspects with Jupiter and the Sun this morning keep the morning flowing, but this afternoon we may need to set or maintain boundaries when it comes to our work or personal space. These are not necessarily hard defenses, but steadfast possessiveness about what we have staked out as ours or our area of responsibility. It may take only a warning growl to keep someone from encroaching on our territory.
Tonight, the Moon’s connection to dreamy Neptune makes it easy to soothe any irritations and spend the evening watching movies or immersed in creative thoughts of how we can change the world for the better.
Daily Muse: I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples…We know only too well that what we are doing is nothing more than a drop in the ocean. But if the drop were not there, the ocean would be missing something. (Mother Teresa – Moon in Taurus)
TUESDAY
March 8
Moon in Taurus/Gemini
The Moon goes Void of Course 6:35am enters Gemini at 10:40am
A lunar square to Mercury in Aquarius may get our morning off to a cranky start, or possibly just a feeling of being rushed. The Moon in Taurus does not like to feel hurried and an early morning phone call, text, or conversation with a roommate or loved one may interfere with our morning coffee, meditation, or exercise time. We are likely to dig in our heels with the Moon trine Pluto in steadfast Capricorn as we are devoted to our personal routines and habits. The Moon in a positive connection to Pluto also helps us be emotionally resilient facing fears or interruptions head on with little drama and no resentments. The Moon is void of course after connecting with Pluto (6:35 am Pacific) giving us a few hours to readjust our schedule and get back on track.
Mid-morning the Moon shoots into chatty Gemini and we are ready to make some connections. Positive and harmonizing lunar aspects to Mars and Venus (in Aquarius) this afternoon gets our juices flowing and we may be thinking of more personal and intimate settings rather than just socializing with co-workers. Whether our interactions are for personal or business reasons, we are not averse to using charm and ingenuity to get what we want. The Moon in Gemini can skillfully use words playfully and in a targeted way to create a desired response.
This is good energy if you want to win someone over, present a new idea, or sell something. Just be careful to avoid slipping into manipulation to move things your way. Without humility we could become convinced only we see things clearly, and we are doing the world a favor by coercing others to join us. One of the best ways the Gemini Moon can attract energy is to be a loyal “twin” identifying with joint desires, preferences, and shared needs. Developing win-win situations are preferable.
In personal relationships if there seems to be a disconnect, possibly you don’t know the other person as well as you think, or maybe you are seeing them the way you want rather than for who they are. The Moon’s positive trines to both Mars and Venus in Aquarius bode well for sweet connections in relationships, but the independent nature of Aquarius suggests it’s not smooth sailing if partners don’t have mental agreement. If you hit some snags, try harder to understand the needs of the other person, and re-examine your own.
Daily Muse: It’s important to make sure that we’re talking with each other in a way that heals, not in a way that wounds. (Barack Obama – Moon in Gemini trine Jupiter in Aquarius)
WENSDAY
March 9
Moon in Gemini
Mercury enters Pisces @ 5:32 pm
The Moon in social Gemini rules the day as the first planetary aspects don’t occur until evening. But this doesn’t necessarily spell quiet. In fact, with Mercury moving into sensitive and imaginative Pisces this evening, Mercury in Aquarius may be particularly active and vocal about ideals and humanitarian ideas. We might expect a lively and even boisterous exchange of ideas and opinions filling the airways. Keeping with the tone of yesterday, we are eager to shape public opinion (if we can!) and using rational mind to evaluate is particularly important. Emotions run high and we are attached to our opinions. Remember most situations are not black and white and if we want to get to the truth, we must investigate and wade through multiple layers. Our arguments will be more compelling when we focus on shared interests and demonstrable facts.
In early evening Mercury, the planet of thinking and communication splashes into watery, emotional, and imaginative Pisces. This energy emphasizes intuition and alternative forms of communication over words and language.
Gut feelings, hunches, and emotion hold sway over rational mind. Known for its far-reaching imagination, Mercury in Pisces makes connections that defy the limits of the rational mind. Mercury in Pisces helps connect us to the ethereal world of the soul and spirit and makes it easier to tap into our sensitivity, empathy, creativity, intuition, and psychic abilities. Famous natives include Elton John, Edgar Cayce, and Charles Lindbergh.
This is a great time to practice and hone psychic and creative abilities. During this three-week period, it’s also important to strive for clarity using both the rational mind and intuition. Enjoy the flights of fancy that are Mercury in Pisces, but also guard against the temptation to escape or check out when life gets demanding.
One of our first tests may occur tonight when the versatile Gemini Moon squares Jupiter in Pisces. We don’t want to be told “no” or that something is difficult or impossible. We may fail to appreciate others’ feelings and create emotional drama inappropriate to the situation. This is not to say that our feelings are not important or that we don’t have valid reasons for being emotional. Jupiter tends to blow things up and expand their importance sometimes to the detriment of being able to think and act clearly and effectively.
Daily Muse: The enemy of execution is complexity. (Tony Robbins – Mercury in Pisces)
THURSDAY
March 10
Moon in Gemini/Cancer
The Moon goes Void of Course 8:43am enters Cancer 11:24pm
We are pushed to prioritize and choose directions today as the Gemini Moon squares the Sun in Pisces ushering in the 2nd quarter of the lunar cycle. This square usually means we need to check our position and progress and make any necessary adjustments. Luna’s trine to disciplined Saturn in the pre-dawn hours may mean we are motivated to get an early start. Although I don’t advocate missing out on any sleep, these hours may be very productive and precious as the Moon’s square to Neptune mid-morning might dissipate focus or force an unwanted detour or distraction. If you have something important that needs to be accomplished by mid-day, you may want to consider starting early and not procrastinating until the last moment. If obstacles emerge this morning, you will be ahead of the game.
Mid-day the Moon heads for its home sign of Cancer and there is a noticeable desire to pull our security blankets closer. Sensitive Cancer is naturally empathetic, and many are feeling deeply the rampant sense of fear and loss associated with current conflicts in the world. We are touched by our own pain and that of others.
During the next couple of days, give yourself permission to be sad angry, and express your feelings over personal losses or identification with others. Where possible and appropriate, be empathetic and compassionate channeling nurturance and protection as you are guided. Also important is the need to take responsibility for nurturing ourselves. Not only is this empowering but it decreases the tendency to test our loved ones by making them responsible for our happiness and well-being.
Daily Muse: We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory will swell when again touched, as surely, they will be, by the better angels of our nature. (Abraham Lincoln – Mercury in Pisces)
FRIDAY
March 11
Moon in Cancer
The Moon in sensitive Cancer aligning with Mercury in Pisces in the early morning hours might invite creative dreams or inspire us to spend the beginning hours of our day journaling or reading something inspirational. We may be feeling particularly introverted or introspective today. It could be enlightening and an important distinction to figure out are we simply needing some time for ourselves or are we withdrawing from the world out of fear. With current events out of our control, or maybe we are just more aware of this reality, it’s natural that we tighten up our defenses. Often, attempts of trying to make ourselves feel safe, merely reinforce our sense of feeling afraid, loss, or lack and do little to change the overall situation.
This is a good time to consider whether we are smothering people, ideas, projects, resources, property, assets, and etc. by trying to hold on to them with an iron grip. This prohibits natural growth and development. We can’t hold onto the past, and if we think about it, why would we want to?
Under the Cancer Moon nurturing is the ideal, which includes pampering yourself. Reinforce your sense of safety and abundance by allowing a little luxury. Don’t shut yourself off from your own good, creativity, intuition, and wisdom by clamping down and hiding out. Tonight, the Moon finds a friend in radical Uranus which passionately asserts there is greater life and joy to be realized by moving past self-imposed rules, limitations, and restrictions.
Daily Muse: I believe in the imperative to explore, so any project that I can be involved with that celebrates that and expands people's imagination around that idea of pushing out, is one of the most positive things that I think I could be involved with. (Ron Howard – Mercury in Pisces, Moon in Capricorn opposing Uranus in Cancer)
SATURDAY
March 12
Moon in Cancer
An optimistic and buoyant breeze is blowing through the cosmos this morning with the Cancer Moon aligning with Jupiter in Pisces. This is a creative and inspirational energy that pushes our day in a positive and imaginative direction. It could be the omen we have been awaiting telling us “Yes” to a question we have been pondering. If you have been sitting on the fence thinking “should I or shouldn’t I” look for your answer today. Any decision that feels liberating, leads to a new start or direction, or involves exploring a new path is the right one. Jupiter opens doors and encourages expansion. Although thoughtfully and methodically changing directions is ideal, sometimes making a quick escape can be what’s necessary and the right answer.
Tonight, the Sun in Pisces sides with the Cancer Moon increasing our sense of being in the flow of guidance and intuition. We are! A lunar trine with Neptune, also in Pisces, opens the floodgates of imagination and intuition. Indulge in your own creative magic or spend the evening with friends and family appreciating the innovative genius of others. With pandemic restrictions loosening, you might want to take in a movie, concert, theatre production, or celebrate the reopening of a favorite restaurant.
Daily Muse: Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent. (Victor Hugo – Mercury in Pisces)
SUNDAY
March 13
Moon in Cancer/Leo
Daylight Savings Time
The Moon goes Void of Course @ 8:44 am enters Leo 12:32 pm
If your timing seems a bit off today, it’s probably not you. For those who live in the U.S. and some other parts of the world, the clocks jumped forward by an hour early this morning. (Daylight Savings Time!) But instead of focusing on an imagined loss, we have something very magical to experience instead – the Sun’s conjunction with dreamy, innovative, and spiritual Neptune.
If you read last week’s Power Peek you may remember the emphasis on new cycles initiated when planets conjoin. Here is another one. The Sun begins a new cycle with Neptune annually. This conjunction with transcendental Neptune in its home sign of Pisces initiates a pattern for connecting with our dreams and igniting our passions. It can seem and feel a little airy-fairy because it is mysticism on the highest order. It emphasizes our true reality as spiritual beings and the authenticity we access when we remember to stay connected to a higher spiritual power. We don’t need to aspire to walking on water today, but this is a potent reminder of who we really are and the power we have to shape our lives and our perceptions.
Amidst this heady energy the Moon in Cancer opposes transformational Pluto this morning. This can feel serious and even disorienting, but like an echo helps strip away artificial defenses and life preservers. I can almost here the cosmos shouting out to us as we flail in the water, “You don’t need to be afraid; You ARE the water.” I can’t promise today will bring life changing aha moments, but then again, it just might.
Early afternoon the Moon dries off as it steps into confident Leo. This Moon often faces a crisis of self-identity. Who am I without the roles I play and the masks I wear? A day that started out with a spiritual imperative continues with the opportunity to explore the ways we create images and versions of ourselves. It can be both entertaining and educational! This is the chance to lighten up, have some fun, and not take things too seriously.
Daily Muse: I want first of all... to be at peace with myself. I want a singleness of eye, a purity of intention, a central core to my life that will enable me to carry out these obligations and activities as well as I can. I want, in fact – to borrow from the language of the saints – to live "in grace" as much of the time as possible. I am not using this term in a strictly theological sense. By grace I mean an inner harmony, essentially spiritual, which can be translated into outward harmony. I am seeking perhaps what Socrates asked for in the prayer from the Phaedrus when he said, "May the outward and inward man be one." I would like to achieve a state of inner spiritual grace from which I could function and give as I was meant to in the eye of God. (Anne Morrow Lindbergh Sun conjunct Neptune in Cancer)
