THE WEEK AHEAD
MONDAY NOVEMBER 21ST THROUGH SUNDAY NOVEMBER 27TH
Happy Birthday Sagittarius!
The ambitious, sunny, and adventurous sign of Sagittarius fired into our consciousness last week with both Mercury and Venus entering the ninth sign of the zodiac on Tuesday and Thursday respectively. Jupiter, the planetary ruler of Sagittarius isn?t about to step off stage or take a back seat anytime soon. Very early Tuesday morning (12:20 am (PST) the Sun leaves introspective and mysterious Scorpio for philosophical and hopeful Sagittarius.
Although the emotional Moon keeps our hearts in reflective Scorpio for the first two days this week, halfway through Wednesday the Scorpio research submarine submerges and the Sagittarian hot air balloon really gets off the ground. The Moon flies into Sagittarius and catches up with the Sun mid-afternoon forming a New Moon in the first degree of Sagittarius. Meanwhile, Jupiter which has been appearing motionless during the last week, stations direct. Just minutes after the New Moon, Jupiter turns his face forward, ending a retrograde motion that began July 28th. The synchronicity of Jupiter moving direct within five minutes of the New Moon augments both the new Solar and Lunar Cycles during the next thirty days.
In the Tarot, Jupiter is associated with the Wheel of Fortune and the sign Sagittarius is aligned with Temperance aka, Alchemy or sometimes called Art. I?d invite you to explore these symbols and concepts on your own and suggest the New Solar and New Moon cycles incorporate a necessary recognition of fluctuation specifically the requisite relationship between endings and rebirth. We can truly leave and honor Scorpio while embracing the hope and enthusiasm of Sagittarius? new adventures. What is the point of transformation and regeneration if we don?t allow the newly birthed Phoenix Rising from the ashes to spread its wings?
Sometimes in our eagerness to embrace new cycles we may skip over or diminish the importance of clearing the decks and releasing what is no longer useful before moving on. With the Moon in contemplative Scorpio Monday through mid-day Wednesday we have no excuse not to spend some time in solitude carefully considering what we are inspired to release and change. Doing so will put us in the perfect position to truly embrace and enjoy the New Moon cycle which begins Wednesday afternoon.
The New Moon at one degree of Sagittarius is mathematically trine Jupiter at 28 Pisces ? another thread in this pattern emphasizing the influence of the multi-faceted nature of Jupiter and its current influence. In fact, Jupiter is not only the modern ruler of Sagittarius, but is also the traditional ruler of Pisces ? hence the Jupiter association with spirituality, religion, creativity, and ethics. Although Sagittarius is Fire (passion and will) and Pisces is Water (emotion and intuition) ? two very different and sometimes conflicting energies ? Sagittarius and Pisces are both Mutable signs. Think flexible and accommodating ? able to appreciate historical influences while also moving forward.
Mathematically speaking we have a similar situation with the New Moon and Pluto sitting in the late degrees of Capricorn. The elements (Earth and Fire) are not sympatico, but nevertheless the New Moon sitting at the very beginning edge of Sagittarius is still benefiting from the harmonizing sextile energy of change and evolution indicated by Pluto in Capricorn.
From old ideas, thoughts, and patterns spring new ones. After spending a month looking inward for insights, the Sagittarius cycles encourage us in at least two ways. First, to connect the dots in the patterns we already know or believe. Jupiter represents how we expand our horizons and how we create more meaning for ourselves. It?s our nature to want to understand ourselves and each other and to have coherent personal philosophies that make sense and inspire growth. When they don?t, it?s time to make changes.
Secondly, Sagittarius is the student and the adventurer. We want to shake up our lives with new. This is the perfect antidote to boredom, feeling disconnected, directionless, or unmotivated. Sitting still for too long doesn?t benefit our bodies or our minds. Getting too attached to habits, traditions, or material forms blinds us to recognizing what we really want and need when it comes along and looks ?different?. This is a time to try a new recipe, shake up a pattern, and purposefully expose yourself to something unfamiliar. Doing so will help us connect with our spontaneity and spark our passion.
Going deep with Jupiter and Sagittarius is also going wide and broad. To make some room, we need to first let go of what is no longer useful. To honor this New Moon and extract maximum benefit, consider at least one thought, idea, habit, or pattern you?d like to discard today, right now. The New Moon also makes a helpful connection to transformational Pluto, so we get some help in recognizing and accepting what needs to go. And I?m not making this suggestion casually. Really do it.
Next express at least one hope, desire, or aspiration. Write it down, say it out loud, or do whatever you do to give it material presence. Commit to trying at least one new thing this month. Be curious; sample life by inviting new foods, ideas, behaviors, or experiences. Don?t deny escapist tendencies by labeling them as being spontaneous and open. We honor Jupiter and Sagittarius by developing enough discipline to string together our experiences in meaningful patterns.
Planets Changing Signs this Week: The Sun enters Sagittarius on Tuesday November 22nd.
NEW Moon - 1 degree of Sagittarius on Tuesday, November 22nd. Supportive allies include Pluto in Capricorn (sextile) and Jupiter in Pisces (trine).
Retrograding Planets ? Jupiter ends an almost four-months long retrograde on Wednesday, November 23rd. Planets continuing in retrograde cycles are Mars, Neptune, and Uranus, and the asteroid, Chiron

MOON IN LIBRA/SCORPIO
MOON GOES VOID OF COURSE AT 3:14A, ENTERS SCORPIO AT 9:16A
There is something very appropriate about the Moon moving into cathartic Scorpio this morning ? the sign of death and rebirth, the Phoenix rising from the ashes. We are less than a day away from the Sun leaving Scorpio and entering Sagittarius (12:20 Pacific Time Tuesday morning) and we are within two days of the New Moon in Sagittarius on Wednesday afternoon. Within minutes of the beginning of the New Lunar Cycle in Jupiter-ruled Sagittarius, two days from now, Jupiter itself finishes an almost four-month long retrograde. Before turning direct and signaling it?s time to start thinking about outward extension and expansion again, we have the next two and one-half days to use introspective Scorpio energy to think about recent lessons learned.
On this day of double Scorpio ? both Sun and Moon in this Pluto-ruled sign what could be better than some time spent in solitude and reflection? Hopefully this isn?t a scary thought to you ? spending time alone. If it is, you might want to look at the reason why. Is it easier to get lost in a flurry of social activities, work projects, or domestic responsibilities than spend quiet time with yourself? Like sleep for the body, alone time can be healing and regenerative for a frazzled or active mind always in motion.
This might be a day to purposefully slow down. In some situations, speed is a deterrent to success and efficiency. It?s ok and even preferable to be careful, cautious and think things through. This is not a day for rushing or doing things haphazardly. In mid-afternoon Mercury and Venus, already in Sagittarius, meet up. For sure they are fired up. We can symbolically align our minds with our passions. In our ?real? worlds we can arrange to meet up with a friend or a loved one for a brainstorming or sharing session.
Daily Muse: Spend time reflecting on your emotional and physical existence and how that applies to the voice. You have to apply that wisdom and experience when you sing - it's what comes through. (k. d. Lang ? Sun in Scorpio)

MOON IN SCORPIO
SUN ENTERS SAGITTARIUS 12:20A
The Sun closes the Scorpio chapter twenty minutes after midnight (Pacific Time). Although many will sleep through the transition, we might find ourselves opening the blinds and doing a spontaneous Salutation to the Sun Yoga stretch this morning and maybe earlier than our usual time. The New Solar cycle in sunny Sagittarius is eager to make the switch from the inner caves of our psyches to the excitement of spontaneous movement.
The Sun in Sagittarius follows the lead of its expansive ruling planet Jupiter. Opportunity comes knocking and the spark of hope for the future is reignited. Our natural curiosity and passion are the fuels that keep us moving, youthful, vibrant, and relevant.
The Moon, on the other hand, is still in psychological Scorpio and in the last day of its 29 ? day cycle. We are not ready yet to be coaxed out of our self-imposed solitude or introspection. There is strength and wisdom in honoring this need to carefully and thoughtfully close out the lunar cycle by understanding what needs to be released and cleared from our lives ? especially on an emotional level.
We get some help with this in early afternoon when the Scorpio Moon opposes radical Uranus in Taurus. An affront to our individuality may highlight where we want more independence in our lives. A confrontation, internal or external, might indicate where we don?t want to be pushed or controlled or where a belief or habit has become restrictive.
A similar but different conflict appears this evening when the Moon squares Saturn in Aquarius. If, (or should I say when) you find yourself balking at someone?s opinion or suggestion ask yourself if you are being genuinely spontaneous and, in the moment, or is this a habitual response based in judgment? It could be a somewhat cranky evening as we adjust to our Sagittarian sneakers and restlessness. The Moon makes a forgiving and gentle connection to Neptune in Pisces a few minutes after midnight. Night owls benefit as this energy smooths the sharp edges.

NEW MOON 2? SAGITTARIUS 2:57P
JUPITER MOVES DIRECT AT 3:02P
THE MOON GOES VOID OF COURSE AT 10:16A ENTERS SAGITTARIUS AT 12:16P
We might have a feeling of inevitability and reassurance as the cosmos starts the day with a lunar trine to Pluto. Those who like order and synchronicity may appreciate the Scorpio Moon?s connection to Scorpio?s ruler at dawn and then greeting Jupiter, the ruler of Sagittarius before making the move to Sag mid-day. I suppose in today?s political climate it may not be in good humor to say it reminds me of a ?peaceful transition of power? yet nevertheless, this seems to come as close to a cosmic version as we might ever see! It is a tender and grateful goodbye to Scorpio and an enthusiastic welcome to Sagittarius.
What makes the whole thing even more interesting is watching as less than three hours later, the Sun and Moon join at one degree of Sagittarius to begin a new Lunar Cycle. If you want to understand what this new cycle is about, study Jupiter, the planet of expansion. Not only does Jupiter rule Sagittarius, but the Sun and Moon form a stabilizing trine to Jupiter (currently transiting Pisces) and Jupiter ends a four-month long retrograde pattern five minutes after the New Moon. Coincidence? It doesn?t really matter what you call it, the influence of Jupiter is palpable and will continue to be during this next month.

MOON IN SAGITTARIUS
HAPPY THANKSGIVING
Whether you are celebrating the American Thanksgiving Holiday or not, the cosmos gives us much to be thankful for today. The Sagittarian Sun is beaming in the sky. The Moon, also in buoyant Sagittarius, is ?making friends and influencing people? this morning with hookups to both Venus and Mercury in the early morning hours. Conversations are relaxed, friendly, and maybe fanciful. Sagittarius is the storyteller and loves incorporating theatre into presentations. If we are open, we may hear something that changes our minds today, or receive a piece of information that clears up a mystery or inspires a new direction. Aha moments and unexpected insights are on the menu. Will you be ready? These side dishes are calorie free!
Interactions and conversations are likely to turn more philosophical or political this evening as the Moon forms a sextile with Saturn in the socially conscious and reforming sign of Aquarius. Be tolerant especially when others have views that seem eccentric or far reaching. Likewise, be understanding when you realize, it?s you that is viewed as being the radical in the group. (If you have a rising or planets in Aquarius, enjoy the moment!)
If you are not on board when things get heated, make your exit before late evening (10:36 pm PST) when the philosophical Sagittarian Moon bumps into an opposition with retrograding Mars in Gemini. Although this energy can be confrontational, it can also be entertaining when we are willing to, at least temporarily, switch sides. Mars in the communication sign Gemini is busy gathering tidbits of information and making connections. The Moon might be critical suggesting we are not being discriminating or discerning. This could be true, or maybe we are letting prejudices and judgments get in the way. By the way, leaving a party or gathering doesn?t excuse us from the influence of the Moon opposing Mars. However, the effect may be more internal, private, or personal which may be preferable to a public showdown.
Daily Muse: If at first the idea is not absurd, then there is no hope for it? Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions. (Albert Einstein ? Moon in Sagittarius; Jupiter in Aquarius)

MOON IN SAGITTARIUS/CAPRICORN
MOON GOES VOID OF COURSE AT 11:22A, ENTERS CAPRICORN AT 1:18P
The effects of excess are catching up with us today and I?m not merely referring to second helpings of turkey or pumpkin pie as a midnight snack. Although yes, that could have something to do with feeling a bit overwhelmed or off kilter today. But I?m thinking the Sagittarian Moon (excess-loving on its own) forming a contrary square with Sagittarius? ruling planet Jupiter could have more than a little to do with this feeling. We might be in holiday or celebration mode and being told to be moderate doesn?t seem like a reasonable request. However, the cosmos is smarter than we think. This cranky energy urging us to ease up on extravagances in consumption or behavior can help bring a sense of physical and emotional control back to a day that feels unruly.
Like a child being told ?no? we can be emotionally melodramatic, but our breakdown is likely to be short-lived. And we?ll be glad we are self-disciplining when the Moon moves into Capricorn in early afternoon. We might still be in a mood to be spoiled and indulged but we?ll be more cognizant of results being directly tied to our thoughts and behavior. Nobody else to blame if we are unorganized and undisciplined. Of course, this doesn?t mean we won?t try! Moms, dads, other authority figures, and family make particularly good targets for our grievances. It will be easier, more effective, and more satisfying taking personal responsibility and forgetting the blame game.
When in doubt, think moderation and you?ll be close to the truth for today. A focus on self-responsibility will help us keep our willpower and confidence intact. Meanwhile Venus in Sagittarius reaches out an olive branch of peace to Chiron making it easier and more satisfying to not judge and criticize ourselves or others.
Daily Muse: You've probably noticed already that I'm dressed like a grown-up... I apologize to the Academy, and I promise that I will never do it again. (Cher ? Moon in Capricorn square Jupiter)

MOON IN CAPRICORN
It?s a relatively quiet day today which is why the Moon?s square to Chiron this morning may create more ripples than we would ordinarily expect. With Venus supporting Chiron yesterday we may be surprised when feelings of vulnerability suddenly appear ? we thought we had this handled. In part it is due to the Moon in Capricorn which can be on the grouchy and touchy side. If we don?t live up to our expectations, we can be quick to criticize and make ourselves wrong. Worse, we can start looking for someone else to blame for our plummeting self-esteem.
Fortunately, the Moon is moving toward a supportive trine to Uranus in Taurus mid-afternoon. Although this energy is not nearly as emotionally detached as a Moon in Aquarius would be, it is quite adequate for the moment. We can easily rebuff challenges and literally walk away from behavior, our own or others, that feels defeating and judgmental. We recognize dead-end streets and dead-end conversations for what they are. Uranus supporting the Moon inspires us to take a different path with no regrets.
Daily Muse: A lot of actors get concerned about their own image, even going so far as to rewrite a movie to best serve that image. All I want to do is be in good movies. (Michael Douglas ? Moon in Capricorn)

MOON IN CAPRICORN/AQUARIUS
MOON GOES VOID OF COURSE 12:11P, ENTERS AQUARIUS AT 2:07P
The Capricorn Moon puts us in a mind to be productive today and with a lunar conjunction to Pluto we have more than enough determination to dig in. If you are serious about getting something done, even something fun like holiday shopping or decorating the house or apartment, get started early. A cranky inconjunct between Mercury and Uranus probably indicates something unexpected gets in the way mid-day. Could be a misunderstanding or misinformation or the lights on the Christmas tree are malfunctioning. It?s nothing serious but it?s likely to interfere with our plans.
A fortunate lunar connection to Jupiter in early afternoon helps us maintain a positive attitude. In mid-afternoon the Moon?s move to out-of-the-box Aquarius helps us be creative with our problem solving. If we haven?t come up with a solution for a challenge that popped up earlier in the day, this Moon energy can help us draw upon both traditional and unique strategies to create something delightful.
Daily Muse: Dreams are extremely important. You can?t do it unless you imagine it. (George Lucas Moon in Aquarius trine Uranus in Gemini)
