I'm starting to think about planting a mini witches garden. My problem of course is that I live in apartment complex and anything I grow will be on my little patio and in containers. Does anybody have any suggestions on what would be the musts and ideas on how to accomplish doing so with limited pot growing? I also have to mentioned that any watering done will be done by watering can, sadly no out door water hose hookups, which does make things a bit harder...

I just really want to try my hand at growing some herbs, etc. And if anyone has any seed ordering spots they would recommend, I would love to know!

BB and Thanks!

I live in southern Florida, so I've already started planting a fairy garden. So far, I've planted some geraniums, impatiens, two azaelia bushes, and some ferns. I put in a fairy sized "pool". I have seedlings of, snapdragons, forget me nots, bachelor buttons, and an assortment of herbs in my kitchen window. They are almost ready for planting. I will also be putting in a toad home and a few other ceramic pieces. So far it looks great! Very Happy

Container gardening doesn't have to be difficult. Alot of people who have lots of space to put gardens in the ground use containers to fill up empty places or still have ample containers on their patios. I would probably fill them with annual herbs or vegetables unless I lived in a zone where perennials would survive a winter in an above ground pot. Another choice, if you have the money, is to fill the pots with perennials. Perennials usually are more money, and normally they only bloom for a short period, but if there is a certain magical plant you want to grow, check out how it will grow in a container for your area. Otherwise, you can buy annual herbs, vegetables for a decent price.

MM Epona, Very Happy

I don't have any pics yet, but what I used was a large green plastic dish. The kind that go under flower pots. I surrounded it with stones and small plants to make it look like a tiny natural pond. I wanted to put an aquarium pump in it to make a small fountain, but I have no electrical outlets that far from the house. It is still a work in progress. I've added a ceramic turtle. I will be adding more to it all year! I just love flowers!

Did anyone else have black spots on their peppers last year? What I'm referring to is very much in the top layers of the skin and doesn't really permeate any deeper, but looks alot like rust only is black? The greenhouse I took it to to ask them what it was had no idea.

Blessings,

Being in Nova Scotia our growing season is still months away! The last frost is the end of May...I may start a few things inside next month for the green house but it is still cold and the spring fever hasn't hit me yet!

We must learn to awaken and keep ourselves awake, not by mechanical aid,but by an infinate expectation of the dawn.

Is the black on the top shoulders of the peppers? I find that mine get sunburned occasionally. Peppers can be planted closer together than you think. They will shade themselves that way. We also cover them and the tomatoes, if we have an extended hot, hot spell. We use old lace curtains to cover them, so only half the light gets through.

My fairy garden was lucky. It got through the slight freeze we had a few days ago. I'm getting ready to plant the seedlings from my window sill today. Now the problem is keeping my new puppy out of the garden! She thinks the pool is a water dish for her! Lol.

Hi Freedom,

You sure can plant your daffodils outside! I do this nearly every year. When they're done blooming, keep the soil in the pot moist until the leaves die back. Put the pot someplace cool until fall, then plant the bulbs out in mid September. You won't get many flowers the next year, but they will look better each year after.

MM,
I just wanted to share this. I found a site with some good tips to keep dogs out of gardens! There is too much information to list here. I tried to add a link to the site, but there seems to be a problem on their end.

There are many more sites. Just google, keeping dogs out of gardens.

I'll be doing some gardening today. It's beautiful out! Very Happy
