OMG!!! Those poor creatures!! I have to say that was one of the most disturbing scenes I have ever had the misfortune to watch. I personally think all those stupid ass people should be made to suffer the same way!!! I definetly signed that petition. Hopefully it will help.

I watched this, and wept. I signed the petition and am sending it on to family and friends too, this must be stopped.

Broke my heart. Of course I signed the petition. I hope it actually makes a difference. It is very difficult to influence a culture that has done what they are doing for thousands of years.

But it brought up a question. How is this different from the mass slaughter of tuna, other fish, cows, buffalo, chickens, turkeys (add your animal of choice here) that many of us eat every day? I know that slaughter goes on every day. I choose not to think about it when I eat my turkey dinner during the holiday season.

At what point can we no longer accept the killing of any living being for food? Are we up to that choice? (I know many here are probably vegan, but some, like myself, are not.)

My husband and I tend to go the tribal route of killing swiftly and as humanely as possible, thanking the animal for sacrificing its life for us, and using every possible part of the beast, then respectfully disposing of the rest. (He is a hunter for food, not sport.)

Seeing a video like that not only turns my stomach, breaks my heart and saddens my soul - it makes me rethink yet again our choices.

I know, wasn't it horrible? I forwarded it to my mailing list as well, warning those with sensitive hearts or stomachs to just sign the petition without watching the video!

Good input, CoyoteMoon. I have always thought of Dolphins as closer in intelligence to humans, perhaps even more so than apes. I have had the privilege to swim with the Dolphins in Hawaii. You can't be so close to them and not see the intelligence in their eyes. There is no problem with communication, if only we had ears to listen and eyes to see.

The problem is that the Japanese and anyone willing to do this horrific act see them as "fish". That's obvious in watching the video. These are nothing but a source of food and income. How do we change a mindset? How do we influence a national paradigm? I don't know the answers.

What I do know, is that someday, some species may look on us, humans, as "fish". And I don't say that in jest, nor to lighten the severity of what the dolphins are suffering. It's just so. What goes around comes around.

I signed it, but from reading all the posts, couldn't bring myself to watch the whole thing. I'm with Alora, maybe it will open eyes even if it doesn't carry weight.
