The Kildee's are back in the gravel drive again, lol. Actually called "Kildeer", but here they are simply Kildee's because of their sound. For many years they tried to nest in the drive. I think they only hatched once, either they got ran over, snakes got them, or crows raided the nest. I did get to see them hatch once, the little buggers are up and running in 30 minutes.
They got lucky, I had been seeing them in the drive a couple of days and had been looking for where they were starting a nest. Usually the nest is only a scratched out depression in the rock and grass. To my surprise_____

I love these little birds, sure hope we can get these hatched!

Just what I need, more critters around here LOL!

Sundown - this post brought such a chuckle to me (my hubby as well, since I had to let him read it). You see we have Catbirds that come back every year to next in our back bushes and we were outside today awaiting their arrival. They come back in May but the weather is so warm today and we just thinking of them.

Thanks for sharing the pics of the eggs!

I truly believe that watching critters of any kind is the best!

Silly birds indeed. The one hatching I got to watch, and that grew up were a blast. The nest was close to the highway, when I would try to leave the shop all the little monsters would get in front of the truck and run. Naturally across the highway with traffic. Almost gave me a heart attack but the little buggers made it every time! LOL.
I love critters. The coyotes stay behind the shop close to the beavers and turkeys and deer. Lets not forget the nutria rats! Never know what you will see here. Fish and Game denies it but we have a Florida Panther that comes thru by my house twice a year, from her summer home and winter home, both of which I have located. She used to worry a lot of people but I think they finally realized that she was not the problem, they were!
The bears are a bit east of here where I grew up.

Too Cool! You'll have to try to get some pics when the hatch. I would love to see them. I don't think I've ever seen this type of bird before...

they still at it, really hope I am around if they make it to hatching. The parents are young, they don't play "injured" as well as the old nesting pair I used to have.

I have been attacked by bluejays and mocking birds for getting to close, the mockingbirds can be really mean. They will let you find out just how fast you can run LOL.

And then there were none. Friday afternoon when I got here the eggs were gone. Racoon? Snake? Crow? I am heart broken but nature has it's own laws and really does not follow my wishes. They will find a new spot and start over. Such is the cycle of life.

But I still miss my birds.

Blessed Be

This couple should nest again real soon. Hopefully they will choose a little more protected spot next time. I found another nest today in a field outside of my office. This is an older nesting pair.
They really do the injured trick well. I will try to get some pics of them in the "act".

edit to add: I tried but my camera is not up to bird action pics. But this is a really good nesting pair. She almost attacks before she goes into the injured act.

As predicted, they are back again, 4 eggs. Keeping my fingers crossed. Ground nesters have a hard time and these in this place are more exposed than usual. No need for more pics, these eggs look just like the other ones, almost the exact same spot. I sure hope these make it.

Speaking of Birds,

My Mom rwst her soul, was a bird woman and knew of the native central Wi birds. She has visited me since her passing in the form of her birds many many times. In direct wren songs and indirect with cardnals building nests where sparrows used to be before she passed.

New this year is a strange breed of bird. Charcoal grey, with a tail of a mourning dove but the head and body of a Robin. No red chest, and it will sit atop my grill in the mornings as I leave for work, talk in song to me, and I know it's Mom, but her new appearance to me is strange and I can't hear what she is saying to me. It is almost 2 years now since she passed and I always heard her clearly.

This is only 2 days..shopuld I wait to see if her message becomes clearer?

Sundown The poor parents! I hope they makes it this time around!!
It makes me smile to think of these birds..
When I was 13 or so, there was a baby killdeer wandering around the parking lot of the grocery store, lots of cars moving about. I waited and waited and the little thing almost got run over numerous times and through it all I didn’t see nor hear any others. So after many near heart attaches on my part and its. I scooped it up and walked to where my mom was working, got scolded for taking it in. But brought it home as we had many in our neighbor hood. I brought it out in the yard and kept an eye on it, as it called out about 3 or 4 adults came and as I walked toward it they tried to divert me by playing hurt. As one lead it away the others kept running at me and then acting like they had the old wounded wing. I was very impressed with this act of selflessness on the adults part for a baby they didn’t even know. They took it in and all was well. I don’t see many now, I live in a more wooded area. But I do miss there call and seeing them run about.

Earth mother that is a wonderful connection I am sure her message will make itself clear.

They hatched!!!!!
Yesterday afternoon I noticed both parents at the nest at the same time. They tend to rotate off nest duties. So I had to go look.

they blend in with the rocks very well.

I had to get very close and the parents got a bit upset

They are off running in the tall grass this afternoon. Now they at least have a chance Very Happy
