Confused Merry Meet! I was wondering if anyone has any homemade remedy for eczema. My poor daughter who is 20 months old has it on her face we have tried everything (Vaseline,A&D ointment,Desitin, you name it). We took her to the doctor and she gave us a few samples of a nonsteroidal cream which I am a little iffy about. I just don't feel comforatble with it because I have to apply it around her mouth and by her eyes. So if anyone has a suggestion I would be happy to try anything else. Thanks and have a great day!

Hi AutumnSidhe hope you found some things to try.

Due to the weather where I live my youngest son suffers with the horrible thing. After years of trying everything I came up with this and I have found it works for him.

I get a cup or so of sorbaline cream, add a few drops of tea tree oil and about four tablespoons of canlendula ointment, mix it together so its nice and thinck. I find this one works for him

Its an idea for you. I feel so sorry for them as it is so unconfortable.

We deal with eczema in our house too. My son has it real bad and was pretty much born with it. There are so many different remedies for it that I have heard and tried. But, due to his sensitive skin I have found that the best thing is plain old Crisco.
Our doctor recommended it to me because the medicine my son was given caused stinging and didn't help..and it had the extra bonus of turning the skin yellow with continued use.

I had tried baby oil as that is also recommended but that caused stinging and also caused the outbreak to get worse.
Since it is on your childs face I would strongly suggest the Crisco. It is safe, even if she gets it in her mouth and there are no side affects. It is an intense moisturizer which is something the skin really needs. It can be used during an outbreak and to keep outbreaks from happening.

I am always surprised when I read people saying that they got a cream of some kind for their child before they are 2. I was not able to get anything for my son until he was over 2 and all the doctors I spoke to were adament that they are not to have anything other than oatmeal lotions, oatmeal baths and other safe home remedies. But, then perhaps they weren't thinking of non-steriod meds or his just wasn't bad enough to warrant medicine at that time... Confused
I also found out though when he was a baby that asthma and eczema sometimes goes hand and hand. (Not sure if you had heard that or not). So you may want to keep an eye on that. Thankfully neither my son nor my middle daughter have asthma with theirs. My middle child seems to be outgrowing her eczema though but the itching is just terrible when it comes on.

I hope you find something that brings your daughter relief soon. Sometimes it is a matter of trial and error (although it sucks) to find the right thing for the individual.

I'm so glad that it helps someone. I know when he told me I thought..well duh, there's an idea I would have never thought of..lol I have been sharing it with everyone I can.
It is the only thing that my son will not cry over. Before he would burst into tears and tell me how much the medicine hurt him. Once I got him to realize that the Crisco was different he is all over getting it. lol It is easy to put on..just take a butterknife and scrape out a little bit..use clean fingers to spread it onto the skin. This keeps the Crisco clean and sanitary and keeps you from making a huge greasy mess from digging fingers in there to get some out.
We don't cook with it so our container is lasting a really really long time. Other than a couple of marks from a knife it looks brand new actually and we have had it for months. lol And name brand isn't necessary so you save even more money. (Queen of cheap..frugal doesn't even begin to describe me..lol).

This of course also works for softening other skin with cotton socks or gloves. Wink I use it on my legs sometimes because I have developed some kind of reaction to shaving and I am not ready to give that up..nor is my husband. lol

I do hope that others that try this find that it helps them too.

All the girls in my family have suffered, until I tried a recipe for posion ivy. I take a good handfull of cattail leaves, chop them up into 1" peices, add a good handfull of plantain & boil it together for about 15 minutes. let it cool, strain, then put it on a cotton ball & dab away. No sting, no stains, use it when ever the feeling hits you. We haven't any problems.

www.gaiagarden.com has a wornderful selection of herbal ointments.
The salve for dry excema is a little pricey but I found it worked well for my son. It has a strong scent which I found pleasant but my son didn't care for. He put up with it because it helped.

There are also many other natural herbal remedies for all sorts of situations.

O.K. my son is sitting here and wants me to include this emoticon.
Just bear with me. I wish I could be so happy over so little.... (dying)

Merry Meet! I understand how frustrating eczema can be. One of my sons and his daughter both suffer from the condition. One thing I learned through all my research ( and working for a group of Dermatologists) is that sometimes having eczema can be due to a milk allergy. In our case, that is exactly the cause. We limit the amount of cow's milk and usually use soy or rice milk in its place. They say that milk stays in your system for about 40 days so you could see that if there was even a mild allergy the build up in someones system could cause a major outbreak. We stopped all cow milk for about 4 months then we slowly started using it again. We have found that small amounts of cows milk aren't a problem and everyones skin has cleared.

Another thing we had to deal with was my youngest son having ADHD. We did a 3 month parasite cleanse and you would have thought I had traded my son in for a different model. He passed the parasites and the hyperactivity went with them. I was a bit skeptical at first but now I'm a firm believer.

Hope these things are helpful.

Skye, could you share how you are able to cut the milk out? I have tried with my son, as I believe he is lactose intolerant (like me) but he is little and only knows that he loves it and wants it. And I want to make sure that he gets the calcium he needs to grow and be healthy. (He refuses green veggies..so that isn't an option for us)
During the summer it is a little easier to get him to drink other things but still he insists on having milk.
Oh, he is almost 4 now so we are in the picky and stubborn stage..so that makes this subject trickier for us.

My husband and I were actually discussing cutting it down in our son to see if that helped his behavor as I read somewhere that milk can cause irritablity in some kids. Plus he gets dark circles under his eyes like how my intolerance started as a teen. When he was a year old we couldn't give him whole milk because he would vomit. So he has always been on 2%, as his body can tolerate it. Recently he has been able to handle whole milk but he only gets that if at a family members house, so it is very rare.

And, may I ask what is parasite cleansing? I have never heard of that before.
Thanks for the information.

I had a very similar time with my oldest son having the milk problem. I cut him off mild all together, this was hard as you need to read can foods etc as well. He has dairy free for nearly two years, on soy milk and rice milk, used nutlex marg etc for everything. Then with the peds. help we slowly re introduced dairy into his diet and got to a point of how much he could tollerate. Now that he is 15 he still has some problems, but is much better. He had ezema, asthma and all the things that go along with. Not much fun.
