As I have grown many vegetables and herbs on my parents farmland,
I've been curious to night gardens.

I've noticed there are a number of beautiful flowers that only bloom at night.

I'm just curious to anybody who has one in the presence of her rays...

Im sure theres a guide on here about them,
but i'm curious to anybody who tends to one,
what plants would you suggest?

"The Spirits have all but fled judgement
I rot, alone, insane,
Where the forest whispers puce laments for me
From amidst the pine and wreathed wolfsbane
Beyond these walls, wherein condemned
To the gloom of an austere tomb
I pace with feral madness sent
Through the pale beams of a guiltless moon
Who, bereft of necrologies, thus
Commands creation over the earth
Whilst I resign my lips to death
A slow cold kiss that chides rebirth
Though one last wish is bequathed by fate
My beauty shalt wilt, unseen
Save for twin black eyes that shalt come to take
My soul to peace or Hell for company"

"The Fall of the House of Bathory"

Hi Fate,

There is a wonderful website called Alchemy Works you might want to check out.  It's run by a pagan who specializes in vegetation. He has a Moon Garden seed collection, among other things for sale:

Moon Garden
Three white flowers and one moon yellow flower, all of which release their fragrance at night, and one white-leaved aromatic herb to gleam in the moonlight. White Moonflower, Moonflower Vine, Evening Primrose, Woodland Tobacco, and Wormwood

You might also check out Night Blooming Cereus...latin name is Cactus grandiflorus.  Evocative scent, only blooms once a year and night and I believe on the full moon.  I want one really bad!  I know Horizon Herbs carries them.  Maybe it's about time.

Night Blooming Cereus sounds very interesting, I'll have to get more info on it.  I'm assuming it can be a house plant here in frosty Canada.  I love collecting unusual herbs, or herbs that have a story to them.

I would love to live in a place in which I could have a garden. The best I can do is hang some regular plants out of my apartment. I took out some spider plants over the weekend, but had to bring them back in because we had a frost.

I know the apartment landscapers have to hate me because my bird feeder tends to grow a "bird food" garden on it's own. I even had a sn flower last year.

Deadly Nightshade is another one that only blooms at night and has a wonderful smell to it. I have that in my front yard. Be carful it's very poisonous...

Though they go mad they shall be sane,
Though they sink through the sea
they shall rise again;
Though lovers be lost love shall not;
And death shall have no dominion.

My friend has a night blooming Cereus and has a little party every summer when it blooms. I have a cutting, but they take several years to mature, and mine is still two leaves in a pot at the moment. I think it's a succulent, I keep it and care for it much like my aloe and jade plants.

Moonflowers are beautiful and smell lovely if you can germinate them. I don't think that they're toxic.
