Thank you Bear - she seems to be calming down at the moment taking her away from the school which is causing her trouble - I know this is not always the best solution but feel it may help in this situation

what is the nature of the bullying, dear? I have a 13yr. old daughter who struggles with this, also. We have made much progress from "within" - making her stronger and more radiant...this is subtly recognized by her detractors...it seems to be working... Wink

MM Polgara,

I sympathize with you. I have three children ages 16, 14, and 12-1/2.

If one of my children were being excessively bullied at school I would go to the faculty at the school and let them know there is a problem.

At this age, kids tend to beg and plead with you not to do this for fear of being embarassed.

BUT.. if the problem is serious enough it's important to talk to your child's teacher anyway. She probably has witnessed some of this first hand and may be able to offer some suggestions for you and your daughter, and make a strategy to help prevent this with you both.

If the problem persists, I would definitely go to the principal. Your child's teacher can vouch for you if you have to take this step.

You can do some things with your daughter to help her build up her self esteem. Maybe you can find after school programs that allow her to develop her interests. You can also, make a protection charm for her to carry.

Kids can be MEAN to each other, and even dangerous on occassion. That's why I think it's important to let the staff at the school know that this is a problem.

Bullies are something I will NEVER understand. It's terrible to treat each other the way some people do. Even adults!!!

Much luck to you and your daughter. I hope this all gets worked out soon.

Let us know how it goes.

Blessings,

LJ

I agree with all comments made here, having done all of them while i was at high school including self defence. I was physically and verbally bullied and sexually harassed at high school, what made things worse was the fact that my step dad was verbally and some time phyically abusive to me as well so i never escaped been bullies at home. i would go to school and be bullied and the go home and be bullied. it was like a neverending circle.
My mam was in and out of the school nearly every week talking to the head of my year or the deputy head master or the head himself. Things after a while died down at school for a while. Then in a maths class in my 3rd year in high school this girl and a few others started to call names at me , the techer was ignoreing the class while it happened, then one of them got up and slapped me across my face for been ingorant as i just ignored her. i stood up looked at her picked up my stuff and moved to the very front of the class. she then followed the isulted me and my family, something i will not repete here and slapped me again, it was at this point i lossed control and punched her in the face causing her nose to bleed, she then came after me, i blocked her arm and put it into a lock forcing her head down on to the table. it was at this point the teacher ran out of the class room to get help. When 2 teachers arrived one of them pulled the girl from me and the grabbed me and took me out of the class room. I felt tribble for hitting her and causing that amount of damge, I felt so bad for it i couldnt sleep and i even apologiesed to her i still hate my self for doing it now and i gave up tae kwon do because of it all. but after that the head took more action and put her in isolation for the week and put her on permante report. she never bothered me again nor did her friends. I was bullied on a number of occasions by other people which was soon stopped after that day.
This is just a little of my experiences.

But i found that Talking helped loads, i talked to my most trusted teacher, i talked to my mam, i talked to a child support line. My mam talked to the head of the school and a child wealfare officer.
Self defence helped in away the reason why i gave it up was the fact i hate hurting someone even if they have caused me hell. I think i have gained some self confidence from it and now that i have left high school i am going to give it ago again.

So keep talking and Take it as high as you can. Dont leave it too late as someone gets hurt.
Everything will turn out for the better, I know. I dont get bullied at all anyomore not at college or at home,

there is a silver lining so dont giveup !
Love and light to you and your child

Heh. Bullies. My little brother has to deal with them at his school. I sometimes even have to drive him to school, or make sure he gets home safely. BEcause of this, I implored him to try a couple of techniques. First thing I caught his interest in was yoga. he's 11, and he enjoy's it greatly believe it or not. I guess its because he's spending time with his big bro or what not, but regardless. I also take him with me to my tae kwon do lessons. I have always believed that violence isn't the answer, but if it has to be done, then it has to be. I still pick up my little brother when i get off of work, and make sure he's at school at time.

But, altercations come profusely.

He has been taking lessons with my sensei for about 5 months. He's gotten stronger, and I noticed more confident when he spars with me Smile

A group of kids at school actually started pushing him around. And then the biggest one out of the group started calling him dirty names. Its amazing at 11-12, kids know the "c" and the "f" word (I will not say). Then the big kid started to kick him. I will say i was very proud of my little brother when he handled the situation in a good way.

He did nothing.

He took his hits.

After that I left work early to pick him up because the principal called. The child was on a 5-day suspension from school that beat him up. From what i know, nobody picks on him anymore. He actually brings more people home now to hang out.

I took him home and put frozen foods on his bruises. And that made me think of how great my little brother is. Although me and him still get in our fights (brotherly love lol), I still love and respect him.

But yes, a couple of ideas. Self defense is good. Consulting with the childs teacher is good, but that would make the child and outcast at school if the students found out. And you know at that age, everything means the world when it happens at school, because thats all the child really knows about social interaction. be cautious in what you do, because even though your daughter may hate you for a few days and then she'll get over it...even that little bit of "hate" hurts :\. I hope some of this helped you a bit.

Blessed be,

Fate

"The Spirits have all but fled judgement
I rot, alone, insane,
Where the forest whispers puce laments for me
From amidst the pine and wreathed wolfsbane
Beyond these walls, wherein condemned
To the gloom of an austere tomb
I pace with feral madness sent
Through the pale beams of a guiltless moon
Who, bereft of necrologies, thus
Commands creation over the earth
Whilst I resign my lips to death
A slow cold kiss that chides rebirth
Though one last wish is bequathed by fate
My beauty shalt wilt, unseen
Save for twin black eyes that shalt come to take
My soul to peace or Hell for company"

May I suggest finding out what policy the school has in place for bullying and harressment, then acting on it,sometimes you really need to step in even when your child says not to,if the school has a zero policy in bullying then report the kids who are bothering your daughter, those kids should be warned that if they bother your daughter again expulsion will be enforced.Sending Blessings Your Way

Bullying is a serious problem. School officials do not take it serious enough to stop it. Parents feel helpless. My daughter went through it for four years. Instead of dealing with the bullies, they made her see the school counselor on a regular basis, as if she was the one doing something wrong. She was being bullied for being a witch. She had pencils, rocks, shoes, etc., thrown at her. She was called a "devil worshipper" on a daily basis. Prior to people finding out were are pagan, my daughter had lots of good friends. She lost them all. She was outcast. No amount of talking to teachers or the principal stopped it. She rode it out and is now in high school and on the dance team. She survived this awful situation and is now a very strong, independent young woman. I felt helpless. I felt that I didn't do enough, although I did everything I could. She was suffering and even though she remained the student with the highest grade point average in her class, she hated going to school. (And, she wasn't recognized at her middle school graduation for having the highest grades, either).

The fact is, is that good kids are often targets of bullies. I wish I could offer advice to help to stop it but I agree with the above with helping her cast a protective light around her and do whatever it takes to help make her stronger. I wish I had been able to move her to a different school, but we weren't able to. I wish you both luck.
Blessings, Sisterwolf
