Merry Meet. I first off want to say that I personally don't have anything against mother in laws. So, I hope that this doesn't offend any. Chris and I are living with his parents until we get our own place which is coming up real soon. We are waiting to hear back for the final step in getting our house. In the mean time, I don't know how to do deal with his mom. I've bitten my tongue, held my breath, tried to be kind to her, and it just blows up in my face all the time. She talks about certain things to people on the phone about my partner and I that should be discussed by us. Sometimes she gets too personal about things as well. Right now she is going through a difficult time worrying about her sister who is in bad condition. Which I can understand is part of why she is in a bad mood all the time. But, it feels like she takes it out on me too much. She wanted us to get a job. Chris and I have 3rd shift jobs. He works in a factory and I babysit. And most of the time, I don't get to sleep or nap where I go to babysit because the little girl doesn't always go to bed until 3:30am. So, when we come home, we are tired and try to get some sleep. After his mom wakes up as soon as we get home, she goes about her house cleaning. Which is ok. But, sometimes she moves furniture and it wakes me up. So either I don't get sleep at night after the girl goes to bed or I don't get sleep here at the house. I have tried to set down and talk to her even tried to compromise with her and she gets offended and mad and talks to people about it on the phone as if I had done something wrong. This goes on everyday. And the closer we are to getting our own house, it isn't soon enough. Her sisters treat her like crap and I end up being the target for her to take it out on. Often, I have came close to splitting up with Chris because I don't want to be around it anymore. But, I want to stay with him regardless of how his mom treats me. I am not trying to blame her for everything or whining about this, it's just that it feels like a battle with her everyday and it is almost splitting Chris and I up. We got into an argument today that had me nearly packing my stuff and living on the streets because I couldn't handle her today. She woke me up today tapping the vacuum cleaner's filter to get the dirt out. My bedroom is next to the living which she was working in. I came out and she said that she didn't want to vacuum because it would wake me up, but, I explained to her without any attitude that the rapid tapping of the filter on the metal can was what woke me up. After that, she got mad and went into the dining room and was tossing wood near the wood burner, which is what she does when she gets mad. I tried to talk to Chris about this and he doesn't want me to leave, but, he won't talk to her. I told him that I didn't want to leave him and go, but I also didn't want to stay in go through this everytime she gets upset at something that doesn't pertain to me. At this point, the only thing I know is to either wait it out until we get this house or leave. But, I don't know how much I can take before I blow up.

Hi friendlyhobbitt,

Hang in there! You said you were on the final stage of getting your own house, so it should be just a matter of time before you are able to move, right?

Knowing this situation is temporary should help make the situation more bearable.

The way she is treating you may not be right, but there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. If she doesn't want to be nice to you, you can't make her.

If it were me, I'd just try to avoid her as much as possible, and bide my time until I could move into my new house.

Let us know how things works out for you.

Blessings,

LJ
